Abuja-based human rights lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, has called on the Federal Government to establish an independent committee to oversee the disbursement of 753 duplexes recently recovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and handed over to the Federal Ministry of Housing.

The EFCC chairman, Ola Olukoyede, had on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, officially handed over the 753 housing units located at Plot 109, Cadastral Zone C09, Lokogoma District, Abuja, to the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa.

The estate, covering 150,500 square metres and consisting of duplexes and other apartments, was recovered following a final forfeiture order issued on December 2, 2024, by Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja.

In a statement on Wednesday, Olajengbesi called for the establishment of an independent committee comprising certified estate valuers, auditors, civil society organisations, respected activists, lawyers, religious leaders, dedicated EFCC officers, and officials of the Housing Ministry to guarantee an equitable and transparent disbursement process.

He said, “Special commendation to the EFCC boss Ola Olukoyede for his transparent and selfless disposition in the recovery of loot so far.

“However, the work of the anti-graft agency is not done with the handover to the Ministry of Housing. Given the intractable corruption and lack of transparency and ability that has become an ugly trademark in most ministries of government, the EFCC should painstakingly monitor the allocation of the recovered loot. This would go a long way to ensuring that cronies of government officials are not the only ones who would usurp the recovered duplexes

“Also, an independent committee should be set up to include certified estate valuers, auditors, civil society organisations, respected activists, lawyers, religious leaders, diligent EFCC officers and officials of the Housing Ministry. This is to ensure high-level transparency and ability in the process.”

The lawyer warned that without a transparent process, the disbursement of the houses could be manipulated to benefit only the cronies of government officials.

He emphasised the need for continued EFCC oversight even after the official handover to the Ministry of Housing.

“Given the intractable corruption and lack of transparency and ability that has become an ugly trademark in most ministries of government, the EFCC should painstakingly monitor the allocation of the recovered loot.

“This would go a long way in ensuring that cronies of government officials are not the only ones who would usurp the recovered duplexes,” he said.

All our politicians are thieves. Na only those wey no play their game well, by playing politics of hate, like emefiele be barawo. If you know how much his predecessors like Soludo, Sanusi lamido ate as cbn governors, the masses could stone them without hesitation. Emefiele only acted on the existing protocol and template, just like beta edu. If such templates never existed, they'd have sat up.

At some point, soludo wanted to be using his company to get contracts at cbn. He also wanted to use the same to get contracts for minting before the kasala burst and he was stopped. See as he now wears only one clothe in anambra as governor to deceive them, someone who used to wear very expensive clothes and suits, all na format. Sanusi lamido came and ate plenty. He single handedly gave kano billions of naira to cushion the effect of the disaster that hit them. Na im papa money? How much was his salary? Did he have any manufacturing company?

That's the reason they're ready to kill to get into those offices. Come 2027, anyone who still votes these politicians will remain enslaved till he breathes his last. Whether agege likes it or not, mudasiru obasa will install his son as the LG chair, someone who had never spent a night in agege constituency to really know what they need. He lived his life partly on the island with his dad and abroad where he schooled. He's never a politician. But you're here wasting your data you bought with your feeding money to defend them, instead of calling the boys in agege and have meeting, choose a trusted one among them and buy a form for him. Garner money, do go fund me, canvass him from home to home and his election. Obasa won't bring people from island to vote in agege. It's still agege voters who will decide the winner. Something must be wrong with you peope for always defending and allowing these guys to steal your fortune. The same people will plant the seeds of discord and tribalism into you and say he's yoruba, he's ibo or hausa, don't vote him, without noticing they're only deceiving you, in order to satisfy their selfish ends. They know where they meet up.

See the way our politicians have systemically sent the future of Nigeria away to develop other nations all in the name of japa? Their policies have crumbled their businesses and livelihood. Those who are still around didn't have any means ni. They'd have japad too. Meanwhile, they keep planting their children who schooled abroad into key positions and you're there hailing them on empty stomach, are you guys OK? Tinubu is coming up with something in lagos for his son. We're watching.

Seriously, it's very easy to develop this country if only the masses are sensible enough and willing to take back their rights from these hyenas. We all saw what Labour party did in 2023 where the sons and daughters of nobody won major seats. That's what I'm saying. We have over 12 actively ed political parties in Nigeria. Your candidate can come out under any of them, it doesn't have to be from Labour party. Before obi came, LP was never popular. Enough said.

How can one man steal 753 duplexes?! How many can you live in at once? The African politican mindset is just appalling. And these are just the ones we know about, thousands more are stealing multiples of these. The good thing is that the day your soul is required of you, not a SINGLE pin will you take along. FOOLS.

Na wao. And his boss, the incorruptible and highly intelligent boss, the great buhari was there live in Abuja while the thefts was going on and nobody said pim..... It is well with Nigeria. Kudos to EFCC. They should search for more since this much could be recovered in Abuja alone.

How many of you are following this Diddy court trial thing?
What's been revealed so far makes me hate this gender the more.

Things are really happening. God would have created a separate garden for Eve. Men are wicked.. They don't deserve to be with women.

753 assets all in abuja. If this man did not fight tinubu by contesting and trying to use cashless policy to derail tinubu plan. He would have kept all those assets to himself and no one will distrub him nor even discover he is deeply corrupt.
There are countless others as corrupt as emefile but because the mind their business and didn't step on toes they are enjoying their loots in peace.

Emiefele seems daft to have done this kind of looting. undecided

To the extent that he even wanted to contest for the presidency. I heard that someone within the Buhari cabal was nudging him on to contest because of how he "assisted" the cabal. He never knew that Tinubu would win the election. His bet was on Atiku, or at worst, Obi or even thinking that Osibanjo would have clinched the APC ticket from the way Buhari was indifferent to Tinubu's aspiration. Most politicians invest their loot into properties. Go to Lekki and see properties uninhabited for years because most of the owners were people with connection and invested in properties.
