The t issions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced plans to conduct a mop-up examination for candidates who missed the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), offering them a second chance to participate in the national test.

This was disclosed by the Registrar of JAMB, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, during a high-level stakeholders meeting held in Abuja to address reported challenges from the just-concluded exercise.

According to the Registrar, over five percent of ed candidates were unable to sit for the UTME due to a range of issues, including technical failures, late arrivals, and other unforeseen circumstances. The mop-up exam will serve as a remedy to ensure no candidate is left behind.

“We are taking immediate steps to organise a nationwide mop-up examination. This is a tradition we have upheld over the years to accommodate those who, for one reason or another, missed their exam date,” Prof. Oloyede said.

He emphasised that even candidates who were marked as absent during the initial examination window would be eligible for the mop-up, dismissing criticisms about the rescheduling process.

“Some people question why we are moving so quickly to address this. But they are unaware of the urgency. After UTME, we have WAEC, then NECO and NABTEB. These exams follow in quick succession, and many students sit for multiple exams. There is no time to waste,” the Registrar explained.

Professor Oloyede also reaffirmed JAMB’s commitment to integrity and fairness, adding that the examination body remains focused on providing equal opportunities for all candidates.

He condemned what he described as “uninformed commentary” regarding his emotional display during the exam crisis, clarifying that it reflected deep concern, not weakness.

“Leadership demands responsibility and empathy. We are here to solve problems, not to play politics,” he said firmly.

JAMB has not yet announced the exact date for the mop-up exam, but candidates who missed the 2025 UTME are advised to stay updated through official JAMB communication channels.

He is even the best ever Jamb registrar. Obviously, people are trying to sabotage his good works. It's no mistake the system glitch is happening, when WAEC wants to start CBT.

We know with the zero tolerance on mal-practice, so many people would have no business in universities, they will opt for vocational diplomas.

Hmmm. ... mop-up exams .... no candidate left behind. Where in the world does this happen? I can understand if there was a glitch and the exam did not take place as scheduled....then it should be rescheduled. Candidates always miss examinations for one reason or other. What will happen to those who miss this mop-up exams? ... will they be left behind? ...or another mop-up will be held since no candidate is left behind? Where will it end? Will the mop-up exams be the same? ... or different? If same then the mop-up candidate will have an advantage since he can know the questions beforehand and research the answers. If different...then both cannot be same level of difficulty...one will be more difficult than the other ... the results will not be standard. What really did the high level stake holders sit down and discuss? Next year why wouldn't most candidates willfully miss the exam to have a better shot at the mop-up? Why wouldn't candidates in the first exam memorize questions and making them available at a price? I guess these are the high level stake holders that came to the conclusion that exams should begin at 6 a.m. We should know who they are....and their qualifications. Worldwide ... there are no mop-up exams ...no mop-up deadlines for applications ... what are we really teaching our youth? Some people really need to be stoned.

Are u going to repeat the same questions considering the fact that those who have already written must have hinted their prospective mob up candidates counterparts the questions or form another questions which will either be easier or more difficult than the one easier written?🙃🙃
It is easier to do things right than to explain y it is done wrong. If u talk now as a concern citizen, somepeople will automatically give u a tribe, a religion or a political party.
U failed , no be to take responsibility and resign?
