I personally know a retired top naval officer who just retired and built and settled permanently at Calabar, and he is from the middle belt, when I probed on his reasons he said Calabar and Ilorin are Nigeria most peaceful towns to retire to or to raise children, so it's not just about cost of living alone but equally about peace and tranquility for you and your family

Hi, I need some help figuring out something I’ve been contemplating.

Due to some financial difficulties, I have to relocate and I’m looking for a place in Nigeria that’s very affordable in of rent and general cost of living. One of my top priorities is reliable electricity and good network connectivity, as these are essential for my work and daily life.

My budget is quite limited—less than ₦100,000—so affordability is crucial.

So far, the options I’m considering include:

Osogbo, Osun State

Uyo, Akwa Ibom

Gboko, Benue State

Abakaliki, Ebonyi State

If you have any suggestions, insights, or recommendations about these places—or anywhere else that might fit my criteria—I’d really appreciate your input.

Thanks so much for your help!

Remove Uyo and Abakiliki as they're far above your budget.
Would have suggested North if not for insecurity

For whatever reason for now, please run entirely away from Ebonyi state. That state is ironically very expensive. More like a state for retirees. Remove Ebonyi from your list

15 year old girl dey hustle for street in Gboko till day break without fear na person way live for him own house go fear

Benue is a massive country. The insecurity is to the North along broder towns like Naka. From there to Gboko is more than 2 hits with fast bus with many police stations and army braccks in-between

Even makurdi in that northern sector is peaceful talkless of Gboko way to the south

A plate of food... Fufu... still costs less than 1k in Gboko and light is fairly dtable. The food was 500 last I checked February this year

The cost of living here in Abakaliki Ebonyi state is very high, A room sefcon ranges from 500k up the agent fee is not included. From my own suggestions you should go to Nsukka, Enugu state, there you can get a very good selfcon from 120k up

Which area please

The Nsukka town I know self con is 300 to 500k. Cheapest hotel room is 10k and it's horrible. I regretted it moved to another where cheapest was 20k

Even obollo no easy. So I can't help but wonder where you are talking if

be careful , the cheaper the place the more the presence of civil servant depopulation agenda bandits, kidnappers etc

Its sad times for people world over, everybody is looking for a place to go to avoid the cost of living pain.
The people that are behind the pain have global reach so there is hardly anywhere to escape to.

If you find anywhere that is cheap and peaceful to live enough for many people to live happily and raise children, they will stop you, by making things more expensive and sending in their killers.

For now, you are probably safest in the main capital cities of Africa, closer you are to the people in the foreign embassies the civil servant terrorists are working for the better, cause only the area around the foreign embassies are safe in africa now.

People in america are fleeing to south america , those in Europe are fleeing to middle east and Asia , all slowly finding out that its same pole that run where they fled from and where they fled to, bringing in the same policies and troubles that made them flee in the first place.

the only way to escape a global parasite is to leave the planet, so help us the Lord of creation, at this most desperate and shameful time for the human race, where the daily job of a select few is to figure out how to wipe out the rest of the population of the planet.

If you should find anywhere peaceful enough to thrive affordably, they will stop it, if not with bad economy, then with their killers.

This is not the time to be settling down to have kids and you're better off living in van that can move anywhere than a house . This advice came from an old black american teacher to Americans, so imagine what this means for African.

If they dont get you with thier killers, taxes or the economy they will use flood and fire. Thats where we are.

If you find any haven of safety or a way to survive the depopulation onslaught, best to keep it a secret, cause if enough people find a way or place to thrive, they will stop it.

Sincerely speaking, you should consider the North. Except for some towns in the South, state capitals are not cheap to live in.

Talking about North, you don't need to go too far, consider areas around the outskirt of FCT (or particular settlements around Airport Road, some areas in Kuje, Zuba, etc). But note that you may have to settle for a self con with not much space and lesser aesthetics.

Also, places bordering Abuja/Nasarawa such as Masaka, One Man Village, Akwanga or places in Niger State (Suleja, Madalla, Guaraka, Kaduna Road etc). Staying around these places will afford you the opportunity to be able to quickly enter Abuja even on daily basis if you need to hustle around there.

Mind you, food and fruits are relatively cheaper in Niger State.. Not true, for places close to the FCT

Hopefully, by next year, your story will change for the best. Wishing you God's guidance and favour as you navigate this journey called Life

Suleja, Kaduna Road, Madalla and Gauraka, hmm! He can only get a single room with that amount. Some self contain goes for upto 300k, while minimum is 150k
ols(m): 3:27am On May 22
Osogbo is peaceful and you can get an accommodation in some area with 20 hours daily electricity supply.
Even the worst areas in of electricity in Òsogbo are still better than some places in Nigeria.

In of security, Òsogbo is moderately out of news in of armed robbery and kidnappings, so if you mind your life and business, you are guaranteed 95% safety.

In of accommodation, it depends on the type you want with your 100k budget. If you don't mind, you can get a room and parlour self-con with that amount.

Go to suburban around Onitsha. Housing are very cheap there. If you are lucky, they will accommodate you for almost free so far you will be honest enough In keeping the compound clean and safe. You will stay in the boys quaters cos most owners of the duplexes are living far away. Fact.

COMRADES, I think apart from the far nothern states and some western states, other states in Nigeria too dey expensive oo

Any place business is booming, naturally you don't expect things to be very cheap.

Big businesses drags people and things up, it is the law of demand and supply.

Your focus should be on improving your income, and raising your standard of living.

Your ancestral home. In the house built by someone in 1920 when the community gather together to help build house for someone out of mud.

You can cultivate fresh vegetables and rear animals for your consumption/sales without landlord wahala.

Any other place is expensive, relative to your earnings.

Bottom line, make money!
and I hope you have made the money ?

I concur! 2007 NYSC camp in Gboko, I bought 5 very sweet oranges for #5. I almost fainted when someone told us we were extorted because it was the orientation camp. At Tarka, my friend told me you could get a basket of tomatoes for #120. I swear, true true, Benue na food basket.

The points you raised are different from his.
He's ruling out Gboko because of insecurity, while you're ruling it in as a place to relocate to.
