I honestly struggle to understand the bitterness that some of my Yoruba brothers and sisters show toward people from other tribes—especially the Igbo. It’s confusing—and frankly heartbreaking.

Where does all this resentment come from? Is it something ed down at home? Are some parents really raising their children to believe that the Igbo are their enemies? That they’re rude to their parents or violent in the way they were brought up? These are harmful lies—ugly stereotypes that do nothing but divide us.

Even more ridiculous are stories told to children, like saying the Igbo “eat stones.” Are we now gods, that we create myths like this about other human beings?

Things get even more painful when it comes to inter-tribal marriages. The moment a Yoruba man chooses to marry an Igbo woman, it becomes an issue in some families. In many cases, the children born from these unions are not even accepted or seen as “fully Yoruba.” We've seen it happen far too often—and it played out clearly during the last Lagos elections, where some people questioned the roots and belonging of fellow citizens simply because of their mother’s tribe. That is not only wrong, it's dangerous.

Recently, someone made a distasteful remark about Davido, just because of the tribe of the person he associates with. I found that deeply upsetting.

Davido is one of the most detribalised and hardworking young men of his generation. He’s shown time and again that he values people for who they are, not where they come from. That should be celebrated, not attacked.

We all have the right to choose who we associate with. That is what freedom means in any society that calls itself modern and decent. Tribalism shouldn't be worn as a badge of pride. In fact, decent people have outgrown such thinking.

So I ask again: When will the yoruba stop this pettiness? It is becoming sickening!

When will we stop using tribe as a yardstick to judge who belongs and who doesn’t? We are all Nigerians, first and foremost. This tribal mindset has held us back for too long.

It’s time to rise above it. It’s time to let love, unity, and respect lead the way—for the sake of our children, and the future of this country.

Never
Just like asking when are we going to outgrow foolishness

1. I have never seen anything more stupid than thinking because you were born by parents from a certain tribe, that makes you better than someone born by parents from another tribe. Then till you die, it's now your job to taunt and antagonize the other person

2. Nigerian politicians might be wicked but they are very smart. They have seen something that will always present an opportunity for them and they will always exploit it, using idiotic bigots as instruments

3. What stupidity don't allow tribal bigots realize is that they are 3 times more likely to be killed by their tribesmen than someone from the tribe they hate so much

Lets be blunt
The Yorubas accommodated igbos
For several decades without hate
They were made to feel at home too much
It got in their head.
Especially this new generation of igbos

That's big lie. It's all about Lagos politics. Why don't you all fight for your country so as to claim full ownership of all your region?
The politicians are united in their looting and nothing like tribalism. But the common man keep fighting on irrelevant things that has no positive effect on their lives.

Imagine the title of this thread yet the writer displayed far worst than those he's accusing.

Why are some people chewing hypocrisy raw like this. It's illogical to be blaming others for what you mastered

Respect is a reciprocal. Those who used to be attacking others but having expectations of receiving chocolates in return should stop the deluding as there is nothing like ego massaging again

The first paragraph of your post doesn't make any sense and has rendered your whole post meaningless. How could you say the yorubas have bitterness against other tribes? How could you say that the Yorubas have bitterness against igbos? I have been on twitter quite a while and if you follow this tribalism squabbles on twitter keenly, you would notice that the origin of this tribalism can't be traced to any tribe. But it became more widen in the last general election. So saying a certain tribe has bitterness against another tribe is another form of tribalism again

The first paragraph actually scattered the whole epistle.

How come the said Yoruba's are not having issue with other tribes but only Igbo's.

Meanwhile, is it only the Yoruba's some Igbo's have issue with when even in far away India, there is currently big issue there not to talk of local issue with others in Nigeria

People should endeavor to be looking into the mirrow, see who appears there before pointing fingers

Your like are quick to accuse others as tribalist. I during the 8 years of Buhari one Northern guy was forced to be posting about the North because of insult denigration of the Northerners by you Ipob but here we are calling others a tribalist.

If i reply ypu appropriately ypu will shut up and never in your life accuse anyone of being tribalist. Same you that is fed with tribalism from birth.

A Yoruba man would rather sell his land to an Ibo man for #20 million Naira than sell to a fellow Yoruba man for #19.5 million Naira

It is really hilarious reading what you have written up there. Everybody knows that Yorubas love the Igbos so much and they have always stuck out their necks to be smitten because of Igbos.
We all read what happened to Wole Soyinka, Banjo etc. What Yoruba got in return was hatred and other ills.
Chukwumerije and some other Igbos have said that Nigerians should never allow Yoruba to become president.
Everyone knows how the Igbos hated Awolowo,Abiola,Tinubu and voted massively against them.
Igbos should just amend their ways and character especially with the Yorubas who have always shown them love.
Let us build bridges, not bring them down.

Are there no Yorubas in other parts of this country that have naturalized?

What do you mean by accommodating? A Nigerian has the right to live in any part of this country lawfully.

How many times in your existence have you heard of intertribal conflicts between Yoruba and Igbo? As for me I have never in my over 3 decades of living witnessed or heard of any fight between Yorubas and Igbos in any parts of this country.

So why the hell do you spread so much hate about them? What got into their heads?

Why do you feel threatened by mere words. If anyone wants to take over your lands, they will wage war against you and conquer you to do so. Have the Igbos ever waged war on any part of Yoruba land?

If you do not like them, why not just let them leave and have their own country.

Na awolowo of course 😕, the originator and the causes of all this madness, to make some certain tribe more superior is to call the other tribe Omo IBO.. A very small yoruba girl small fingerline will not greet me simply because I am from bini so I be Omo IBO.. Imagine the hatred. 😏

the ibos started the hate and they attacked d fulanis for good 8 years and called d fulanis derogatory names but just like atiku said many of the fulanis weren't online to do the push back.

The mistake the ibos made was that they believed they can do the same thing they did to fulanis to yorubas but yorubas pushed back.

Even many northern influencers were shocked at d pushback by d yorubas.

This is what sarki has to say

You are being cute with your words.

Obidients started this latest hateful round of tribal nonsense and you know it.

Yoruba don't seem to have issues with other tribes but Obidients have successfully insulted, abused and enjoyed the misery of others. Benin, Esan, Tiv, Berom, Ijaw, Hausa and Fulani, name the tribe and Obidients have lashed out based on the elections where Peter Obi came a commendable third.

The response from Yoruba people sadly and unfortunately faced all Igbo's when it should have been restricted to Obidients.

That's what the cause is and any other conclusion is you wanting to avoid the issue.

The Igbos are the most tribalistic tribe in Nigeria. During BUHARI 8 year tenure, they insulted the Northerners so much. Now it Tinubu that is in power, the same trend follows, they are quick to insult tinubu and never acknowledge when he does something right. I pray for a Nigerian without the IGBOS. Even if Biafra is actualize today, there will be civil war in Biafra, just like in south sudan. It only the Yoruba tribe that tolerates the Igbos and with what is happening now, it has reach it limit and Yoruba tribe is pushing back.
