A car is a luxury Is different from A luxury car. A car is a luxury to many Nigerians who don't even earn enough to eat properly. And a luxury car does not have a price tag of 15million Naira anywhere on this planet. 20 Likes 5 Shares |

Kaycee54321: This is very easy to understand. So, why has disstroy been arguing for almost two weeks because of this? I guess because he tries to portray himself as a perfect human being. He couldn't bring himself to accept that he goofed, reason why can't mention the model and year of the luxury car being sold for 15m after over 50 pages. ![]() 1 Like |

Saladdin:That is why my one of my posts said there is no where in this nigeria a 15m car is luxury except it is relative to you. Some teen village girls and boys in this present age might see a white colored shining honda accord End of Discussion as 'luxury' But that doesnt make Honda accord the national S.I unit of luxury |

Saladdin: Even the guy who quoted this post before me cannot cough up #15 million for a car today. He knows it. His many posts hint at it. I can hide under the guise of tech and startups buoyed by pictures and anecdotes over the years to posture like #15 million wouldn't put a dent in my purse. It's Nairaland so I can pretend, but I won't. I don't do the regular 9 - 5. A full digital brand creation package of web app dev, SEO and SMO would earn you no less than $1,500. That's over #2 million and in less than a month. And this is on the very low side where you are underpaid. You'd earn more as you bargain. Still, considering expenses and obligations, #15 million would make me pause and a second pause. My whole persona is about being honest and open. Yet we have NYSC and 9 - 5 guys on this thread say #15 million for a car is not a luxury. They can afford it. One what salary/income? To do what? To impress others? I'd understand if they are influencers who make money seem so easy for the gram. The good thing is, knowing how this thread works, one slip hinting at their salaries in the future would set the thread on them. Like they did to Lar-ride after bragging he'd wager a #500,000 b£t the year prior about who'd win the 2023 election. 2 Likes |

All this things would be partially put to sleep if the complainant would kindly furnish our eyes with at least two pictures of what he considers a luxury vehicle for 15million (Subject to price verification). Or simply state the model, we can help him scan the sites. 8 Likes |

izzou: I can't give you a yes or no answer because the question cannot be fully answered in a binary way, so don't try to box me into a corner here. My point is luxury is contextual, and ANYTHING you cannot easily afford at any point in time is a luxury to you regardless of it's worth be it 1k or 1bn. Yes there are certain items which everyone considers true luxury, but the term itself is very subjective and determined by so many things like: education, income status, social/peer group etc. For instance, you earn 5M monthly, a 2010 Toyota Camry would feel like a basic car to you because you can easily afford it. While a 2017 Mercedes will feel like a luxury to you. For someone earning 150k that same 2010 Camry would definitely feel like a luxury to them because they can't easily afford it with their income. In another instance, someone earning north of 70M monthly, a 2017 Mercedes would look like a regular car to them, but a 2025 Range Rover would be a luxury to them. Hope you get the context? What is basic to you is luxury to another and vice versa. So it is well within point, given Nigeria's terrible economic condition to say that a 15M car is a "luxury" to most of the population, and aside a top-tiered career, sought-after freelancer earning in hard currency, a thriving businessperson (all of which represent a tiny % of the population) most cannot afford it without engaging in unsavoury things (e.g stealing public funds, wire fraud, high-class escort etc) to buy it. I hope your question is answered. 3 Likes |

Saladdin: No sir. You didn't answer anything, and you know it. You previously agreed that luxury is relative, and 15 million can buy a luxury vehicle; Very okay by me. So, do you know any luxury vehicle that can be bought for 15 million naira? Yes or No? Extra tip: You can convert it to dollars and then search in other countries too. 18 Likes 11 Shares |

DissTroy: Exactly, you've brilliantly summed it up. The whole premise of the argument is simple. —There are items are considered as true luxury by EVERYONE, rich or non-rich. —However, luxury is very relative and depends on context. What is luxury to one is basic to another. —Taking Nigeria into context, a "15M Car" is definitely a luxury for most of the population since the citizens can't readily afford it given the poor economic situation. —A simple search on Jiji shows a 2015 Toyota Corolla to be 14-15M plus. This is a basic car for some, but for the majority of the Nigerian population, it'll be considered a luxury. Now worldwide, would this particular car be considered a true luxury, the answer is no, but would it be considered a luxury in Nigeria? The answer is a resounding yes. When something stretches beyond your current financial means or feels like a non-essential indulgence, it becomes a luxury, not necessarily because of the item’s price tag, but because of your economic position at that moment. So I don't get the bragging and pigheadedness. Sheesh! |
