Catholic means Universal... Church of Rome, is like saying Church of England aka Anglican Church, that is why they specifical identified their own as Roman Catholic Church, It was not by chance.

Topic was always going to get derailed! Fyi - the term Roman Catholic was made up by Anglicans after the Reformation. the Church has always referred to itself simply as the Catholic Church which includes over 20 Eastern Catholic Churches in full communion with Rome.

The real historical split was between East and West( the Great Schism) dividing the Latin Church and the Eastern Orthodox Churches.

I simply do not see these things the way you would prefer.

2. These claims were all fabricated, as the only apostle whose writings confirm he was actually in Rome was Paul.

3. Are you able to clearly quote this letter from Clement where he said these things? Clement wrote of Peter's death over 30 years after it had occurred?

4. Paul was executed by Nero, and it wasn't until 300 years after the fact that someone wrote of it. The same Paul is suggested to have died in 69 AD, while Nero is recorded to have died in 68 AD. How come? I am afraid I don't buy the seemingly spurious s made in your Ecclesiastical History. The holes in the many s are just too much to be ignored.

Historically, most of the West including this same England and most of Africa fell within the jurisdiction of the see of Rome. This same See served as the de facto centre of unity amongst the pentarchy and was referred to as the see that "presides in love" ( by Ignatius of Antioch c.110ad). If others split from it, what is it then called?
