A group under the banner of Ojo APC Indigenous Vanguard has issued a formal statement rejecting reported plans to nominate an individual of Igbo origin as the next Vice-Chairman of Ojo Local Government Area.

In the statement titled “Enough is Enough,” and copied to the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, the Governor of Lagos State, the Lagos West Senator, and other party leaders, the group expressed dissatisfaction with what it described as a recurring pattern of nominating individuals from the Igbo ethnic group for the vice-chairmanship position. They argue that qualified candidates of Yoruba origin are available within the local government and should be prioritized.

We hereby unequivocally condemn the inordinate ambition of some group of people to impose any Igbo personality on us as the Vice-Chairman of our dear Ojo Local Government Council,” the group stated.

Citing past political appointments, the statement noted that, apart from a brief period under the late Solomon Akin-Aina, the Vice-Chairman position has often been allocated to individuals of Igbo origin over the last three decades.

The group questioned the rationale behind this trend, alleging it has not translated into political from the affected communities during elections.

“It’s on record that we witnessed serious challenges during the 2023 State and National elections,” the statement added, pointing to Ward C as an example. “Despite the Vice-Chairman being one of them, the elections in that area were marred by hostility,” it continued.

The group further stated that since the Vice-Chairmanship position has gone to Igbos in the last 15 years, there has been no significant improvement in APC’s electoral performance in Ojo LGA.

They have always preferred to be in stiff opposition to us politically,” the statement said, attributing past losses in the House of Representatives elections to a lack of from these quarters.

It also raised questions about the strategic value of continuing the practice. “What have been their positive and progressive contributions to the political development of Ojo LGA that can justify this appointment?” the group asked.

The statement called on party leaders at all levels — from the local government to the national level — to reconsider any ongoing plan to nominate an Igbo candidate for the position. “We calmly but emphatically appeal to the leaders of the party to rescind their intentions to foist an Igbo candidate on us,” it stated.

The group emphasized its for other Chairmanship aspirants from wards aside from Ward A — which it said had already produced the Chairmanship candidate — as better suited to fill the Vice-Chairman slot.

The flag bearer chose an igbo man because he knows that he alone can get 60 of the total vote cast. If you know Ojo very well you will understand what I am talking about.
Ojo is an igbo dominated area.

Beta so that you can know if they are loved or hated. Whatever they dish out they will receive in triple folds.

You can also ensure that both their chair n vice are Igbo so that we can vote them overwelmingly like they vote Yorubas in Agulu.

For 15years running yet you can't stop hating Lagos state, Tinubu and APC but your hypocrisy can collect the appointments and positions from the same people you hate. Can you show us any non-ibo Vice Chairman in the SE talk less of 15 consecutive years.

Ojo is an igbo dominated area.

Don’t mind the yeye people. After rejecting an Igbo vice chairman, they will still ask Igbo in APC Ojo to vote in favour of APC.

If not for these tribalistic views, should Ojo not be one of the best in the entire country? The LG covers a very vast area, largely dominated by not just the Igbos, but the Aworis, northerners and persons of other tribes. The biggest electrical and electronics market in Africa is located there, generating the biggest income for the LG. Unfortunately because of greed and corruption, they completely continue to ignore that major road leading from Volks, through Alaba market, enroute to other areas covered by the LG. As we get into the raining season, it will become more difficult for residents of the area to navigate. Even Okokomaiko and its axis are in trouble. Rather than face development as the LG, some yeye politicians are busy talking racism. Again, they will race to the same Igbos to request for money to finance the election.

Ojo LGA was completely a PDP territory until Jimi Agbaje lost the area when he contested the election in 2019.

I can't beg Ojo people on this because the opportunity given to them were not well utilized to foster political to their hosts. When you get opportunity, utilize it well; don't abuse it. Be humble to carry those giving you food along, don't later see them as thrash and begin to insult them. 15 years is not small to have shown your to those providing food for you
