Representation is important in armed forces around the world. Various countries use different means to ensure representation in their armed forces.

In the United States you need to be nominated by your senator, member of Congress or the vice president of the US before you can attend any military university. This is to ensure that of Congress fight for their constituents to be represented in the armed forces.

In the UK they have specific military units for specific ethnic groups. You have the Scots Guards, the Welsh Guards, etc.

In Nigeria each state has a quota and state governments encourage their citizens to fill the quota.

The reason it has been in the news in recent times is because some states are unable to fill their quota. The military receives less applications from these states and it is much less than the assigned quota. So the authorities want to encourage more people from these states to the military (so that there will be no cry of marginalisation in future).

You are not hearing about the other institutions because they don't have problems filling their quota.

The government does do adverts for cbn, nimasa , etc and they fill them by quota.

The reason why they do not beg is that such jobs for places like that are oversubscribed

Not gonna lie, connections and nepotism happen, but there are still a lot of jobs in say NNPC that have to be filled by really qualified people , not by nepo babies.

Also army is a hard job. And it involves essentially giving up your life. As a child, I grew up next door to a family where the dad was a colonel in the army. Because they were posted too.frequently, the man and wife agreed that the wife will be based where she worked while he did the moving so that the kids would have stability.
