The ONLY way to build a thriving and developed economy is with FREE MARKETS. South Africa is doing better than the rest of Black Africa because the ANC and Black elite have generally retained the system of Anglo-Saxon free markets, floating currency and property rights. The implied answer in the bolded is EXACTLY correct. Nigeria and Zambia don't send any VALUE ADDED products anywhere. Such goods & services result from PRODUCTIVITY.

Nigeria & Zambia aren't sending anything to China because they are not productive. The main reason for their poor productivity is THEIR CONTROLLED CURRENCIES, they FIX their currencies. Fixed currencies also are more likely to DEPRESS export productivity.

South Africa has maintained the British imposed system of A FLOATING CURRENCY, in fact the 1990 agreements with Mandela explicitly mandated an INDEPENDENT Reserve Bank and floating currency. I that very clearly. Mandela also had to renounce any policy of land seizures and pledged to maintain property rights. Those are the reasons why South Africa is productive and has ANYTHING to export

I've tried my best to explain realities. Most Black Africans are IGNORANT of basic economics. Without White imposition they tend to resort to socialist policies and the results are clear all over the Continent.

Eastern Europe was FORCED to adopt Communism by the Soviet Union. The same Soviet Union heavily influenced the ANC; in fact the ANC was originally based on a Communist nationalistic program.

Learning from history and errors is a sign of high intellect. Implementing solutions without being forced or prompted shows diligence. Even China that was once an absolute Communist dictatorship adopted some limited capitalist free market reforms. For whatever reasons, Black Africans can't implement extensive and credible free markets on their own volition. And that's a pity.
