They keep forcing this man down nlders brain. If he's the next best thing after slice bread. U won't need much propaganda. Let him start by enacting power of the people,by the people. Not by decree of boot and gun. At presidential level,it does matter if I are loved or hated, but it matter more if u do the right thing. Because governance is a continum and the next leader would take cue from the current practice and take it overboard . This was how Putin became a lifetime ruler in Russia because Gorbaechev weakened it's parliamentary system. When a tyrant would get there, it wouldn't matter if he's loved or not. his homework would have been done for him. He'd just turn the whole country to his personal backyard while enjoying somewhere else .

Tribes or ethnic groups? Tribe is the closest to clan, so why should the lowest classification of people be used anytime we are talking about Africa?

Yoruba = Ethnic group
Ijebu = Tribe

Igbo = Ethnic group
Abriba = Tribe.

I hope you got my drift?

The Economist magazine has often used the term TRIBE to refer to the various nations of Europe. It's NOT wrong to refer to the English, Igbo, Akan, Zulu, Scots or Swedes as TRIBES. Then there's the wild error in referring to Abiriba as a tribe....Abiriba is an Igbo TOWN or village.

Larryfest:
I'm yet to see or read anything from a Burkinabe online who is totally against Traore or his mode of leadership in that country so I find it funny when some group of people in Nigeria whom Burkina Faso's economy or palava is of no use to them crying and writing all of manners of thrash against him. Same Nigeria where more than 90% of her citizens are currently in suffering mode...

A friend I know has been in that country for over a year now and he said electricity hasn't gone for more than 3 times since he entered the country and each time it does there was always a message beforehand through the media, Filling stations will stop selling fuel till the light comes back on because they don't use generators.

Their economy is small so what? Isn't that their level or should we start comparing them to Nigeria with lots of resources and funds but nothing to show for it...

I don't understand why Black Africans are so immune to reason. This canard of constant electricity in Black African countries needs to stop. Ghana is one country often used as an example...I took the time to research the issue both online and by asking Ghanaians that I know. A Black American living in one of the big cities of Ghana recently posted a video of how they regularly go without electricity for at least 14 days every month. So I know for sure Ghana doesn't have good electricity supply....and neither does Bourkina Faso.

A query to Grok on general and urban electricity supply shows this result -

Electricity supply is not widely available in Burkina Faso. As of 2022, only about 19.5% of the population had access to electricity, with a stark urban-rural divide: around 60% in urban areas and just 3-5% in rural areas. The country is one of the least electrified globally, with frequent power outages and voltage fluctuations due to underdeveloped infrastructure and reliance on imported fossil fuels. Demand is growing rapidly at 13% annually, outpacing supply, which has led to plans for expanding renewable energy, like solar, and a recent deal with Russia for a nuclear power plant. Despite these efforts, challenges like high costs, obsolete equipment, and limited grid access persist, particularly in rural regions.

Ouagadougou’s electricity supply is marked by limited grid access (60% of the population), high costs, and frequent outages, particularly during peak demand seasons. While solar projects like Zagtouli and electrification initiatives are improving access and capacity, challenges like reliance on thermal energy, import dependency, and infrastructure gaps persist. Ongoing national and international efforts aim to achieve near-universal urban access by 2030, but significant investment and policy implementation are needed to ensure reliability and affordability.

No need to make overblown claims about the Dark Continent shocked

papyjaypaul:

You are funny. You are giving a solution to a country you don't live in. Did you watch the documentary at all or you just gave your analysis based on what you believe because you saw Sankara?

One of them said they want a system that works for them that is indigenous. They want their own system designed by themselves. Let them do what works for them. They specifically said it there that they don't want any foreign solution to their local problems. Allow them make their mistakes and self correct. Fela once said, teacher no teach me nonsense.

I think it's better to do the right thing rather than waste time and resources on MISTAKES. Don't worry sha, I'm laughing along with you. smiley

This has all been predicted by scholars with better insight http://pscourses.ucsd.edu/poli120n/Kaplan1994.pdf

I it I didn't watch the video, BECAUSE I've seen it before....I mean the 1983 version starring Thomas Sankara, a handsome action hero who died before he could complete the mission. This new star, President Traore, is one of a group of anti-French military presidents that have come to power in the past 5 years or so. How are they doing? Everyone might want to ask the Chinese in Niamey or even Abuja for that matter grin

It's alright though. The solutions I propose have worked out well in EVERY COUNTRY that has tried them; the biggest and best example is the United States of America. Even very LIMITED implementation of such reforms have vastly improved the economies of Communist nations like China and Vietnam and of course they were used to bring economic growth to Nigeria between 1999 and 2015.

It's possible we'll all live long enough to see the results in Bourkina Faso, Niger Republic, Gabon and others. It's a great movie? Press rewind.

Good Luck to Nigeria.

Well, they have several tribes....and like most African countries, they were amalgated to form one country.

There is no African country, except Botswana, and Somalia , that are not made up of many tribes. Nigeria is not an exception. The white colonizers just amalgamated as many tribes as possible together into new countries...for ease of istration.

And it was all for the resources. Nigeria in 1914 had not discovered any oyel when it was amalgamated...but there were other resources. Oil exploration did not start till 1937...and the first oil came up in 1954-6

Nigerians don't appreciate their country, but trust me, we are like USA to most of West Africa; Senegal & Cote D'Ivoire somehow exceptions - even those places no get anything beyond the Capital City. French bled their colonies dry.

But when I tell people the reality on ground in Burkina Faso, they type garbage to me.

Over 95% of the so-called achievements of this guy are fiction. He has a very well oiled propaganda machine.

And Burkinabe dare not say anything against him, you will be sent to the war front ( they have a Boko Haram type of insurgency)

Most if not all West African Francophone countries have National ID Cards with a well kept database. Your details and address are all there. If you talk out of turn, less than 15 minutes, soldiers are at your doorsteps. Lagos alone can contain 2 countries. Imagine a country no bigger than Oyo or Anambra.

If a girl visits you at the hotel, the hotel reception will take her national ID card and when you see her out, she collects it back. Don't ask me how I know this.

Take your country back from heartless but omo, your lies are too much.

Burkina Faso is so bare with decades of destruction and non development that a miracle can't happen there in a decade.

I can boldly say is like Ebonyi or Gombe or Ekiti State. Anyone that's ever been there, we can compare notes

Yes, yeye dey smell.

Leadership isb't about going about strutting everywhere and being a man of the people.

It is buffoonery to be anti-West or anti-China. Both have their strengths and weaknesses.

What are the country's economic policies? How easy is it to a company? Is your company tax rate low enough to encourage foreign investment and even local.

Burkina Faso nationalized two gold mines which is indicative of how the government views much needed foriegn investment.

I hear you, there is a document that US released that Nigeria will disintegrate by 2015, one year after hundred years of the 1914 almagamation. It didn't happen.

There is still one that predicted that in 2026, there will be riots in Nigeria. In fact, it clearly predicted that Nigeria will have a Muslim presidency and all their scenarios. This document was written years ago and now we are in 2025.

Europe is closer to being called a tribe than an ethnic group. There was a time the monarchy of 4 countries in Europe came from one family. (Britain, Russia, and ).

So no, Europe hardly uses tribe to describe themselves unlike the way the way their media and unfortunately our copy and paste media tend to use tribes (in a condescending manner) for Africa.
