Cross River Govt Threatens To Revoke Ownership Of Saraki’s Oil Palm Estate (12530 Views)
franvincoop: 4:46pm On Apr 18 |
Oga, pls don't say what you don't know. I own hectares of oil palm, I go build refinery when e reach 100 hectare. Right now, I dey sell na future production of o. The real oil money na palm oil e dey. From 1 tree we dey get 60 litres + of crude palm oil - O, 7-10 brooms per year, 9 litres of palm kernel oil - PKO, 11 kg of Palm kernel cake - PKC and around 7kg of palm kernel shell - PKS per year. From brooms to o to pkc to pko to pks to palm wine na 25 years b4 dem fell am, I dey fell am not by age but by height cuz some height dey when e reach, even with lift, u no go fit harvest am. No try Palm tree. No plant is this world reach am in of economic returns. Everything about palm tree na money. How much be Dangote fuel, how much be 1 litre of o? How much investment is needed to produce 1 litre of fuel and how much investment to produce 1 litre of o? Few drums, cutlass, firewood, fire , sieve and press, o don come out. From the chaff, we separate the nuts. The remaining waste from the chaff and bunches na organic fertiliser wey we dey use for the plantation or for plant yam and potatoes. I get people wey dey come carry am and I dey charge per tipper. We crack the nuts with a cracking machine and remove the shell. The Palm Kernel Shell my papa been dey sell am through middlemen, now we dey sell direct to Dangote and Ibeto cement by the truckload. From the kernel obtained after cracking, we crush it to obtain Palm Kernel Oil - PKO. This PKO na for Italo via Catania port wey dey sell am. The cake obtained after crushing the kernels is Palm Kernel Cake - PKC. Poultry and pig farmers dey pay per tipper for the PKC. When u calculate am, come edit ur comment oga. Nothing on the palm tree is wasted. I get cocoa, rubber and palm plantation, so i fit advice you with experience on which tree is super profitable. Call am inherited plantation or whatever but na we dey run am minute by minute. Now back to the topic, what is happening with this plantation is that the plantation has exceeded its peak production time and the trees are well over 25 years old so production will only be dropping. From the story, the plantation was acquired, people wey sell cashout, leave them with chaff. Now, for that plantation to be profitable, they have to declare free palm wine and declare 6 drunken months for those 5 host communities and beyond cuz 12k hectares of palm wine go drunken the whole South South Region lol. By offering the host communities the trees, they will help uproot the palms and tap the wine + maggots for free and sell for themselves and they should simultaneously engage and pay the the host communities in replanting every single tree back. This is what they have to do but are unwilling to do it. They already knew this years ago. All the 21 hectares wey my grandpa plant, my papa replant am twice and we sef just replanted 21+5 hectares in 2019. mrvitalis: |

mrvitalis:Mbaise isn't a rural area. It is a town, that is just a stone throw to the state capital, Owerri, I even through the town en route Abia/Akwaibom wella. If you want to know the cost of farmlands, go to your state ministry of agric, or LGA, you will understand better. 2 Likes |

Goddyrichie:I refer to the highly profitable commercial farming and production only o. That's the model with great margins and leverage in both local and international markets. To put the underlisted together makes it difficult for small hold farmers to transit to the high margin commercial level. These are huge land requirement in areas with natural favourable conditions for the cash crop, high capital outlay for staffing, preparing land, security, biological assets, modern refining mill, energy cost, years to wait for fruiting and harvesting, regulatory approvals for finished products, community engagement via csr, job quota, equity incentives etc and competion ( the big boys like Okomu, Prescott and PZ can squeeze you out of mainstream markets, big contracts etc.). It is a tall order but doable. A publicly-listed company called Ellah Lakes Plc has been at it for years now and have been reporting zero revenue because their crops are yet to fruit and they are consistently raising more money to keep the farm and the mill in place till they start producing. Ellah Lakes has been facing this rough patch for years and swimming in debt, zero revenue because it wants to operate at the highly profitable commercial level . That's a proof of the high bar of entry. You can read up on the company. Now compare this to other businesses and agro-products, you may not have billions and still wait to enter the market. In fact, Ellah Lakes had since started raising pigs and promised to start making money from that business in a much shorter waiting period. I hope my explanation helps sir ![]() I am not discouraging you from going into it especially at the small or medium scale level though |

mrvitalis: Bia, Where exactly is this your "southeast"? Land are available for 100-300k or even less. Which farmland did you see that's expensive? Someone called you online writer and you were crying but here you're proving them right with your continued jargons? All those 1,000 hectares etc that are being bought regularly for university or estates, how much were they sold for? Once you're talking about bulk purchase, it most likely involves government allocation of the community land and just a fraction of land cost will be paid. 5 million naira per hectare self is expensive and you were busy shouting 50million with your full chest. |

I don't know about coconut. But cocoa I know about. Cocoa is a good crop to plant today, especially given the more than 300% rise in selling price over the last 2 years but its more labour intensive and needs more chemicals - fungicides and insecticides than oil palm. But it's very very profitable. YoshihideSuga: |

I would choose palm over cocoa anytime anyday. I agree that there has been a more than 300% rise in the selling price of cocoa over the last 2 years but oil palm is still more profitable. It has more derivatives which could be easily obtained and processed with local or manual tools than cocoa. Most if not all the cocoa beans are being exported, meanwhile oil palm derivatives with the exception of PKO can be sold locally in Nigeria. Oil palm is way easy to manage than cocoa. 1 hectare of Cocoa needs much more chemicals - insecticides, fungicides, pesticides etc than 25 hectares of oil palm will ever need. Cocoa plant attracts all species of insects and also has many insects, diseases and viruses that can devastate a whole plantation. Now imagine buying a batch of fake, expired or ineffective insecticides, fungicides and pesticides, your plantation don enter 1 chance be that. Also cocoa constantly needs clearing grass and pruning to allow the Cocoa plant to breathe but oil palm pruning is sometimes not necessary but in any case you will get brooms from the palm tree via pruning. The 9 metres distance between oil palm trees is used to plant other 3 month crops but you can't try it with cocoa due to the huge quantities of chemicals to be sprayed. Oil palm can give you 8 different products without need for any imported machinery, just using local tools an imaginative welder can produce for you. These products are Brooms, O, oil palm EFB, PKO, PKC, PKS, Palm wine and maggots. All these products have an economic value if you know your onions. The tools required here are some drums, cutlass, firewood, sieve and press for the O, nuts cracking machine for the PKS and a press for the PKO and PKC. When it comes to upscaling, the maximum you can get from cocoa beans processing is cocoa liquor, cocoa powder, cocoa butter and chocolate. For Oil Palm, through palm oil refining, you will get PFAD, PAO, RBD Palm Oil, RBD Palm Olein, RBD palm Stearin, RBD PKO and other numerous byproducts I can't even . Soap production is a must if you go into refining cuz all the refining waste is raw material for Soap production. Zero waste. We plan to build a refinery in 2030, we have already visited refinery plant manufacturers in Malaysia and Indonesia and we have visited one of their already installed plants in Cameroon. I am not discouraging you to plant cocoa its profitable but not anywhere near oil palm. Artiiclebeast: 2 Likes |
