The Kano State Government has placed a ban on all live political programmes across radio, television, and other media platforms.

Announcing the decision at a quarterly meeting with media executives, Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, said the move aims to prevent the spread of harmful content and preserve the state’s cultural and religious values.

A statement from the ministry, signed by the Director of Special Duties, Sani Abba Yola, explained the reason for the action.

The statement said the ban “is not to suppress political opposition but rather to safeguard the sanctity of Kano’s cultural and religious values.”

As part of the new rules, anyone appearing on political programmes must now sign a form promising not to make any abusive, false, or culturally offensive comments.

Media presenters were also warned not to ask questions or make gestures that could lead to such comments.

The Commissioner praised media houses for their cooperation so far, saying there has been a noticeable drop in unethical content since past efforts began.

He added that the government is still running awareness campaigns for political programme hosts, media analysts, and religious leaders like Imams, to promote peaceful and respectful communication.

Good move. Because of 5K , a politician will send his attack dog to radio station to be hurling insults at his opponents on radio. Shameless lot

Ask for context before making comments. You hardly listen to radio without someone throwing insults and making baseless accusations they cant back up. They are being very uncouth and it is distasteful to the ears. The ban is good. The should go and discuss fact based issues instead

This appears to be the last stage of this country's collapse.

The desperation to do wrong has never been this high

More often than not, there is no smoke without fire. That it is buried doesn't mean it is not true. Rumors have elements of truth no matter you think. How does a ban preach the freedom of the press or expression? Regulatory fines are there to hinder the practice of fake news! Outright ban just says that they are working hard to bury the eventual truths about some of their policies not coming out. Take or leave it!

The fine the radio... The law already provide ways to fight that

It's a lucrative programme in radio stations in Kano where politicians sponsored thugs to abuse, discredit and even throw false accusation against the target-they most get improsoned.
The restrictions is a good developmen!

Hahaha

Some state governors can act in very funny ways. These are the same group of saints accusing Mr President of being a small Hitler while they themselves are worse than Chairman Mao.

That Kano of a state has too much problems.

Aboki stupidity is so genuine.

Radio and press powers are granted by the constitution, same source the Kano state government derives its powers from.

The laws governing press powers and regulations are well established in the constitution and the NBC rules.

State government has no power or authority to tell the press what to say or what not to say .

This is stupidity at its fullest.
