ABUJA, NIGERIA — The Nigerian Senate has ed two significant tax reform bills aimed at transforming the country’s tax istration system and improving revenue generation and distribution across all levels of government.

During plenary, Senate President Godswill Akpabio described the age of the bills as a critical step in modernising Nigeria’s fiscal framework, noting that the reforms would “add immense value to governance and revolutionise tax collection and distribution.”

The two key bills are:

1. The Federal Inland Revenue Service (Establishment) Repeal Bill

2. The t Revenue Board (Establishment) Bill 2025, which includes provisions of the Nigeria Revenue Service Bill 2025

Both pieces of legislation were ed after deliberations in the Committee of the Whole and were adopted following a third reading on the Senate floor.

The reforms are part of the broader legislative agenda initiated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who had earlier submitted four tax-related bills to the National Assembly in October 2024 for review and approval.

Senate President Akpabio commended the progress made and expressed optimism that the approved tax reform measures would strengthen revenue institutions and bring clarity and fairness to the way taxes are assessed and shared across the federation.

Or to provide for the downtrodden
Or to give incentives to the business people
Or to help the schools that are currently in disrepair
Or the hospitals that are empty and Inadequate

But to tax the poor so they will have more to loot, they are ever ready

Not those bills with much details.
Those ones haven't been ed yet.
These bills are the ones renaming FIRS to JRB and expanding it's reach. All taxes and levies previously collected by others agencies (NCS, NPA, et al) will now be collected by the JRB (formerly FIRS).

The Senate has ed the Electricity bill into law, they have ed the National social investment program bill into law and several others. It's very easy for your likes to sit down on social media and talk ignorantly. Yu guys think you know more but unfortunately you barely know nothing. Even the tax bills in consideration is to alleviate the tax burdens on the poor.

How are those "bills" that have been ed working for you Electricity bill that has translated into not having light at all?😔 @Mr I know-it-all? undecided

They go abroad and see better social security there, they can't do same here. They see better security, lailai they only want to oppress us with security officers. They see correct infrastructure, they are sitting ducks here. Healthcare nko, they will rather carry our taxpayers money to travel and treat themselves and their family abroad.

God is the judge.. undecided
