At the early stage of his tenure, he appointed a three-man advisory team made up of Chief Francis Nwokedi, a Permanent Secretary, Dr. Pius Charles Nwabafor Okigbo (1924-2000) and Colonel Patrick Anwunah, who later became Chairman and Head of the Orientation Committee at that time.
He replaced the then Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Taslim Olawale Elias (1914-1991) with Chief Gabriel Chike Michael Onyiuke (SAN), former Director, Public Prosecution, Eastern Nigeria (1960-1965) from Nimo in the present Anambra state.

In a speech to the nation on January 28 1966, he denounced the evils of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa regime and outlined necessary reforms. ”All Nigerians”, he declared,” want an end to regionalism. Tribal loyalties and activities which promote tribal consciousness and sectional interests must give way to the urgent task of national reconstruction. The Federal Military Government will preserve Nigeria as one strong nation.” He then went on to promise “istrative reforms” and referred specifically to several matters in which regional as well as personal interests were known to have had decisive influence. These were official appointments, public investments, and the universities. He promised that in the public services, efficiency and merit will be the criteria for advancement”. That industrial development would be “coordinated to avoid wasteful duplication of industrial projects”, and that the universities would be “re-orientated to serve the genuine interest of our people.”

Immediately after the speech two Governors kicked against the proposal. They were, Major General David Akpode Ejoor (83) from Ovu in the present Delta State, then serving as the Military Governor of the Mid-Western region and Major General Hassan Usman Katsina(1933-1995), who was then serving as Governor of the Northern region.

Lt. Col. Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu (1933-2011), Military Governor of Eastern Region welcomed the decree while Lt. Col. Francis Adekunle Fajuyi (1926-1966), Military Governor of Western Region never commented on the promulgation of the decree.
Lt-Col Ejoor was reported as saying that the ’National Government’ set up by the army was the prelude to ‘the reintroduction of a unitary form of government’ and insisted that it would create future problems.

Shortly afterwards, the Supreme Military Council announced that a senior government official, Mr. Nwokedi, had been asked to consider and to report to the Supreme Military Council on the establishment of ‘an istrative machinery for a united Nigeria’ and the ‘unification of the Public Services and Judicial Services.’

After appointing only Ibos to powerful positions , Ironsi will later declare war on tribal identities.

He blamed the legitimate government of Tafa Balewa whom they had overthrown and assassinated for all the problems plaguing the country

He decried tribal loyalties as a hinderance to national development which is all a ruse for Ibo domination of the polity.

Ojukwu welcomed the decree of forced national unity but will later be screaming at Abure a few months later for a return to pre Jan 15 status quo.

Now, here is what you need to know: Ironsi and his Zikist Marxists in tweed winter suits saw tribal identities as a stumbling block to ibo domination of the polity and they had the guts to come out and state that they wanted an end to tribal identities so as to have their new Marxist Nigeria under supreme ibo dictatorship.

They are repeating this sane foolishness today by gaslighting anyone who rejects their Agulu fraud as being a tribalist while justifying Obi ibo candidacy as being the turn of the Ibos.

If one man (Tinubu) asserting his ambition to his ers by saying "it is my turn" is dangerous for democracy as they claimed, then an entire nationality demanding that it is their turn to rule by all means is what ?

Every thing they will accuse you of, know they are a hundred times more guilty.

Already , a bill is pending at the NASS to replace state of origin with state of residence and to have acquired indigeneship.

Is this not an attack on tribal identities as proposed by the Ironsi tribal junta ?

Well-said. They'll never change as the covetous and expansionist usurpers they primordially are.

While they terrorise themselves in the SE today, pretending to be serious about Biafra, HOR deputy speaker , Ben Kalu, is busy trying to force full Igbo assimiliation into all States of Nigeria via a bill he has presented.

This incongrous and irritating nuisance of shouting Biafra for many decades now, while seeking an equal and full stake in the land of others, also taking in the reality they are the most dispersed Nigeruans by far, shows what these people are for discerning Nigerians.

This post probably won't survive as it has dared to criticise the 'untouchables' here today even if without uncouthness.

It's been almost 60 years since Ironsi or any Igbo man led Nigeria

But it is those that have been leading Nigeria for the last 60 years that are still complaining about Ironsi and Igbos to this day grin grin grin

They spent the last 60 years mes Nigeria far worse than Ironsi ever did

But the worse thing about the complainers is that the minute you tell them that Nigeria is not working, the country should break up let everyone including Igbos go their way, the same complainers will start looking for 'unity clause', referendum in the constitution, governors and NASS , relocation, Presidential decree etc

Anything to keep their useless 'one Nigeria' going so they can carry on complaining about Ironsi and Igbosgrin grin grin grin grin

It doesn't get stranger than that

Nigeria can never work based on "unitary" only.. I don't know why this is so hard for the Igbos to comprehend.
We are different people for crying out loud, more like partners in progress, doesn't make us automatically "tribeless".

The way Yorubas think and approach issues is different from the way an average Igbo person thinks., still different from how Hausas think.. only liars and hypocrites will feign ignorance about that fact.

But we have paid dearly for the it.

We have not recovered yet. It is getting worse by the day.

Machiavelli says:

“men change their rulers willingly, hoping to better themselves, and this hope induces them to take up arms against him who rules, wherein they are deceived because they afterward find by experience they have gone from bad to worse.”
