KOGI STATE, NIGERIA — Security concerns have deepened in central Nigeria as intelligence reports reveal that the terrorist group Ansaru, a breakaway faction of Boko Haram, now operates at least eight terrorist cells across Kogi State. Three of the groups are reportedly stationed between Obajana and Kabba, a development that has forced high-profile individuals to pay for unofficial security escort to through the corridor.

“Ansaru, a terrorist group, has eight terrorist cells in Kogi State, with three located between Obajana and Kabba,” one security source told SaharaReporters. “Dignitaries now pay through security agencies to get permission to travel along those routes.”

Even more alarming, the same sources claim that the largest terrorist training camp in Nigeria is now situated in Niger State, just 93 kilometres from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

“The biggest terrorist camp in Nigeria is now in Niger State, less than 93 kilometres from Abuja,” a source revealed, raising grave national security concerns over its proximity to the seat of government.

Ansaru, known for its ties to Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), has long been designated as a terrorist organisation by both Nigerian and international authorities. The group has a bloody history of targeting civilians, critical infrastructure, and security personnel.

Efforts to reach police spokespersons in Kogi and Niger states — William Ovye Aya and Wasiu Abodun — were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.

USCIRF Raises Alarm Over Religious Violence

This development comes as the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) accuses the Nigerian government of failing to adequately respond to religiously motivated violence across the country.

In its March 2025 report, USCIRF highlighted the role of extremist groups like Ansaru, Boko Haram (also known as Jama’tu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad), and ISWAP in targeted killings and kidnappings. The report mentioned that in May 2024, Ansaru gunmen reportedly abducted 160 mainly Christian children and killed eight people in Niger State.

The Commission also cited a January 2024 attack in Yobe State, where suspected insurgents killed 14 individuals, including a pastor from the Church of Christ in Nigeria.

“Violent Islamist groups and some Fulani militants sought to impose a singular interpretation of Islam on individuals and communities in their areas of operation, regardless of these individuals’ or communities’ own religion or belief,” the report noted.

Security analysts continue to call for urgent and decisive government intervention to dismantle terrorist cells and protect vulnerable communities.

Terrorist deserves dead.
In Nigeria reverse is the case. Terrorists are worshiped and pampered in Nigeria.. Then for some set of people in the same country, anyone who doesn't the bad deeds of government is a terrorist.
And if you try to correct the government in anyway, that becomes a treasonable offense. I promise you ,they will tracked you down, arrest and mess you up. Nigerians will call you over sabi grin Them go say who send am,he too dey attack who am..

But when Nigeria happens to them or their close pal,you see them shouting government this, government that .

You see terrorists, kidnappers making videos online, they will never track such persons.

Most people here and even the government of the day, are more interested in I.P.O.B, ignoring the groups that has the ability to capture Nigeria if left unchecked!
These groups are the real terrorists that carry arms, have training camps and abduct at will; they can go to a community or school, abduct hundreds, kill all they want and even challenge the govt and nothing will happen!
You can't travel through certain northern states without considering yourself lucky if nothing happens!

Let us continue to focus our attention somewhere else, and do as if it's a northern thing till they fully penetrate the south and take charge!!

As for Abuja, their proximity to our seat of government should be worrisome to any right thinking Nigerian devoid of all these ethnic stereotyping and clannishness exhibited here and there!

KOGI STATE, NIGERIA — Security concerns have deepened in central Nigeria as intelligence reports reveal that the terrorist group Ansaru, a breakaway faction of Boko Haram, now operates at least eight terrorist cells across Kogi State.

It has become increasingly obvious that the Nigerian government does not have the will power to combat terrorist activities in Nigeria.

Is there a higher power somewhere holding the govt to ransom thus giving the groups freedom to multiply and operate at will in the country?

Terrorists don't deserve mercy and there shouldn't be room for repents terrorists. That's why I love the way Israel dey give them wotowoto. "The best way to kill a Snake is to break the egg" When terrorism started from the north, they kept pampering them/ romancing it. Any attempt to deal with them by Jonathan, Buhari and co would say, it's genocide being unleash on the Muslim. But today, "the mata don tie wrapper". The killing Boko Haram has done to northerners, is nothing compared to what security forces did to them.

Another terrorists dey inside federal capital gan gan calling themselves SHIITS.

Meanwhile, let someone who is not a terrorist make a video insulting a politician, the DSS will hunt that person down like a terrorist.

If true then, Ododo is mes.

Cos even if Yayaha didn't achieve much in other spheres, he was able to deal frontally and ruthlessly with security threats of this nature.

Ododo should sit up.

This is a simple matter: the Nigerian Airforce should print and distribute flyers or leaflets in Hausa, pidgin and Arabic to those places from the air, asking them to disband or disperse or go and seek an asylum in Niger Republic, if they do not this, they should be given an air strike. Operation no Mercy.

I wonder why since 1999 trouble-makers and fake separatists have been fighting guerrilla warfare against Nigeria - they will strike and go back into hiding - same tactics by the Niger-Delta militants, Boko Haram and bandits. What are an unserious bunch! I beseech the Nigerian Military to dust their books on Che Guiverra-styled guerrilla warfare and deal with these people once and for all.

If I were a military planner, I would use the chess analogy: I tap all their phones and be killing their kings and queens (sponsors & financiers, as well as their officers) until they become useless, scum of the world and rudderless.

Meanwhile, we know non-state actors are laying their own optic fibres across Nigeria, tapping into the telecom's networks, and the over-democratisation of national security by the NIN has aided them as well. Ali Patani was to blame partly, heard his own relatives were kidnapped and he was kind of powerless despite his NIN brouhaha.

I'm not surprised, this is one of APC agenda

During Buhari tenure Nigeria especially the northern states were suffering insecurity and the druggie in one of his campaign speech said he will take over from where Buhari stop and he is making progress in that direction.

Please my dear Igbo people, especially Abia indigenes. Please stop selling your lands for Fulani herdsmen terrorist who paraded themselves as herders in your region. These are terrorist disguising to kill and maim our people. terrorist settlement in Abia will not only affects Abia alone but also affect us in Akwa Ibom as we are sharing common boundaries. Checkmate any of your Kingsmen who sells their land to Fulani terrorist and we in this part of Akwa Ibom will do same. And, any of our Kingsmen who sells his land for Fulani terrorist settlement is our common enemy.

Throughout the years we have been enjoying peace and security in this part of the country. Let's be guided in our actions and inactions so that what his happening in Benue and Platue states will not get to us. 🙏

Obasanjo's legacy. Like the other leaders the country had had bar maybe Muritala, OBJ is one very unpatriotic leader who was all about himself and power.
That time the 12 northern states demanded a separate law from the laws that applied to other Nigerians, OBJ should have given a very robust response (a la Odi and Zaki Ibiam) or at the very least, countered with the option of a separate country. It was because those 12 states succeeded in their quest and there were no severe consequences to send a very strong message, is the reason Boko Haram even had the temerity. Today we aren't only talking about Boko Haram, we are talking about their splinter groups, which is a bigger problem considering Boko Haram were confined to the North East for many years.
