Stop trying to beat around the bush, I know your aim, but you've failed already, there is nothing like southerner in present day Nigeria, it doesn't exist anymore, thank to you guys and Tinubu, so please be specific when mentioning the part of south you are talking about.

So I'm not endangered in any way...

Making an harmless living for themselves can be an offence for the poor in Nigeria. These women only saw an opening where a service is needed. They have not stolen nor harmed anybody. Naira is made for Nigerians not Nigerians for Naira.

One year imprisonment with no option of fine for hawking naira plus forfeiture of the 3 million POS business money to Federal government - all for hawking naira.

Nigeria has happened to this woman despite being guilty of a petty offence.
I hope she had not argued previously with anyone that Nigeria is a good country for everyone.
I sincerely pity her cause something is wrong with that trial judge

Nothing is wrong with the judgement sir. Read the report again, she is a serial offender hence, the reason for no option of fine. The other woman was given the option of fine because she is a first offender.

I don't understand the hawking of naira nores if they are...

If they are Pos operators
They take bundles of cash to parties and the event centers where people will need to change big currency to lower currencies to earn megre in the transaction. Sometimes they do it on busy roads inside city especially on weekends
adeniyi65(m): 9:45am On May 05
baralatie:

How do you determine that they are not pos operators when the court saw the POS machine that they are using
Since the Advent of pos machines, they have been working with it to ease their work.

You didn't read that she was a repeat offender? How will the country change when some people want to pamper criminals.
Yet, the judgement is still severe. No option of fine. Forfeiture of their money and that long jail time is uncalled for. This is pathetic compared to the judgement given to politicians who loot millions and billions but are only given soft landing of paying few tips out of their loot as fine. The judgement is too severe.

That is what I am made to believe the efcc wants to stop
The crossing of pos business into the side literal hawking of the naira and it's abuse

Why would banks sell cash in the first place? If bank decided not to sell to them, will those who hawk it have something to hawk? The problem of us is this country is that we always try to avoid tackle issues from the root.
the problem of this country is systemic, the probable reason why these ones have been arrested could be because they didn’t settle some people or they stepped on wrong toes.

CaptainFM1:

So what should be the punishment for the banks and bankers?

And why are the main culprits not punished instead or as well?
There’s a money laundering act in the country, it should be implemented from the top to bottom of the society.

If U go to Abuja, around asokoro, jabi, area 2 or so, aboki dey sell mints of all denominations in the open, U won't see efcc go after them.
I have never heard efcc do stint operations in Abuja..

Why arrest someone who is doing business?

Is POs now illegal biz?

I understand your point, there’s are problem when is comes to implementing laws in Nigeria and that’s a systemic problem. Most PoS operators are operating without following the new laid down rules and this makes them illegal.

So far U bought the POS terminal from a ed company and not from eBay or Ali express, U r operating based on the and financial conditions CBN approved for fintech institutions.

If they used their POS to charge customers 400naira to withdraw 10k naira,.it is their business they R running.

The onus lies on U the customer not to patronise them.

Chicken republic sells their food 1000naira.with chicken, but that same food is sold for 3k5 or more at crunchies..

Is crunchies running an illegal business?

OK. Is that also the reason her money was confiscated that is not a proceed of the crime she is convicted for. Again, he could have sentenced her to six months rather than a year.
All that for exchanging money at a party and you don't see anything wrong because she is a serial offender.

Something is wrong with that judgment. I don't understand why you don't see it so.

If she or her lawyer sees something wrong with the judgement as you said, there is always room for appeal.

Just know that there is always a maximum sentence attached to every case under the law. Once an accused has been found guilty, he/she is now at the mercy of the judge, who can decide to invoke the maximum sentence or be a bit lenient.
