No fewer than 25 people have been confirmed dead following a deadly confrontation between suspected bandits and local vigilantes in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

The clash occurred in the early hours of Sunday, May 4, 2025, when a patrol team of professional hunters from Duguri and Gwana districts came under heavy attack in the Dajin Madam forest, which borders Bauchi and Plateau states.

Police spokesperson CSP Ahmed Wakil, in a statement, said the hunters were ambushed around 5:40am during a routine security operation along Duguri, Mansur, and Dajin Madam axis.

The assault, he noted, resulted in the deaths of nine vigilante , five of the attackers, and 11 abducted civilians from Sabuwar Sara village who were caught in the crossfire.

Upon receiving the distress report at about 9:40am, a tactical team was immediately dispatched to the scene, where the corpses of the victims were recovered,” Wakil said.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that some of the civilians were killed while attempting to flee from the armed assailants.”

He added that the police command has launched a manhunt for the perpetrators and will ensure all those connected to the killings face justice.

Reacting to the incident, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed expressed profound grief, describing the ambush as a “heinous and senseless act of violence.”

In a statement signed by his media adviser, Mukhtar Gidado, the governor extended condolences to the bereaved families and communities affected by the attack.

He paid tribute to the slain hunters for their bravery and reiterated his istration's determination to combat criminality in all forms.

“This tragic incident is a painful reminder of the persistent threats facing our rural communities,” the statement read.

“We urge residents to security agencies with credible intelligence as we intensify efforts to bring the culprits to justice.”

The Bauchi State government pledged continued collaboration with federal security forces to maintain law and order across the region.

That is fake news to paint northerners in a bad light. It was an unfortunate incident of a friendly fire between two hunting groups.

You hardly hear any good news that improves the economy in the north. It’s always death and death that steals from the economy and cut short people’s lives.

Why is it always hard for them to live a life free from unnecessary violence

Is the news from the South any better?!!

Shouldn't your query be:

Why is it always hard for the nation's security apparatus and agencies to ensure such "unnecessary violence" doesn't happen?!!

Are ordinary citizens supposed to be responsible for enforcing law and order?!!

Sigh... Try to be less daft please.

The "madness" is already and fully in the South!

1. Kidnapping and murder by herdsmen have become the order of the day in Delta, Edo, Ondo, etc.

2. Farmlands have been taken over and several villages burned down in parts of the Southeast.

When one finger is soiled, how long before the rest become affected if steps are not taken to purge that very soiled finger?!!

Do you have a regional government?!!

Are states distinctly separated and guarded?!!

We are talking poor and deteriorating national security, your dull brain is sticking to ethnicity and puerile politics.

Abeg, don't quote me with nonsense this evening.

The government of course cannot be absolved. There inefficiency has been called to question several times.

But at the same time, Why are these ordinary citizens find it hard to maintain peace with their fellows but enjoy creating unnecessary chaos?

Why are they unnecessarily evil and lacking in any good contribution to the society except for death of their fellows?

Listen to the information: A TACTICAL TEAM of special Police Operatives were dispatched to the scene. And did the TACTICAL TEAM achieve? They only recovered dead bodies! If the only thing TACTICAL TEAMS do is to recover dead bodies, then there is nothing tactical in their operation. The "bandits" were able to finish their operation and escape. None of them was arrested, not even their wounded. None of their weapons were recovered. In fact, the threat by the police to ensure that fleeing bandits are arrested is just a threat because the bad guys could strike again

In the absence of law and order or the enforcement of such, men and women will naturally give in to their animalistic natures and proclivities.

Remove the security agents from actively doing their jobs in Washington or Riyadh (Saudi) for just one week... Just a week, and see how these good citizens turn the entire cities upside down with chaos.

That's why the foremost job of good leaders is to create deterrence.

Deterrence by exceptional security like State Police and security patrols round the clock will make the worst and vilest terrorists behave like lambs.

Are you now saying federal government is creating more security for Oyo state for example than for Zamfara state?

For me I think it has more to do with how individuals view peaceful coexistence than the other.
