The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, and his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) counterpart, Atiku Abubakar, have celebrated Nigerian workers on the occasion of the Workers Day.

Obi, in his message on May 1, said workers have shown their resilience and commitment to national growth despite the harsh economic realities.

“The struggles and harsh realities facing our dear workers in our nation, presently contending with severe economic and political challenges, are obvious. Despite these very challenging times, our Nigerian workers have continued to show resilience and commitment to the nation’s growth,” he stated.

“On this International Workers’ Day, we celebrate the tireless efforts of our Nigerian workers, whose unwavering commitment and immense contributions drive our nation’s growth and development.

“A day like this offers us the opportunity to appreciate every Nigerian worker at different levels of government, across different agencies, private industries and business sectors – your legitimate labours form the energy that propels our nation.”

The former Anambra governor also decried the level of unemployment in the country putting the fiure at 35 per cent.

He called on the Federal Government to ensure that youths are duly employed to reduce criminal activities and other social vices.

Notwithstanding the recent reconfiguration of our economic indices, the reality is that today, Nigeria has an unemployment and under-employment rate of over 35% and a youth unemployment and under-employment rate of over 45%, which is one of the highest globally, fuelling all sorts of criminality and social vices.

Aggressive investment in the productive population remains the best and fastest route to bridging this shortage of well-trained workers and moving our nation from consumption to production. This, as I have consistently maintained, we can achieve by investing in education, health and fighting poverty through job creation and for small businesses.

As a nation, we must create an environment that fosters growth, provides opportunities, and ensures fair compensation. We must recognise the dignity of labour and promote a culture of respect and appreciation for all workers,” Obi stated.

For Atiku, the “Nigerian worker stands as the indomitable engine propelling our nation towards its long-sought prosperity.”

He said, despite the hardship, Nigerian workers have continued to bear the burdens of economic aspirations with silent heroism.

Yet, it is disheartening that those entrusted with the reins of policy and governance have failed to reciprocate this steadfast commitment with tangible acts of and justice.

“The labour force is the soul of our nation. It is both the face and the force of the people. It is thus imperative that governments and employers alike erect unyielding safeguards to protect the dignity, benefits, and entitlements that justly belong to the worker.

“I hereby urge policy makers to draw inspiration from the theme of this year’s celebration, and to embrace the labour force not as a mere tool but as an equal partner in the journey to national greatness,” he said.

FG loves unemployment...because the alternative is well-fed, gainfully employed individuals who aren't desperate enough to either sell their votes for 20k naira each or do electronic-rat work on internet forums like nairaland and twitter at the cost of 30k naira per month, the same way most of these worthless mods on here are doing it

They know it's in their best interest to keep the masses impoverished and hopeless

The two (2) most desperate politicians in the history of Nigeria are Bola Ahmed Tinubu & Atiku Abubakar.

President Muhammed Buhari was quoted as saying it has been PBAT's life long ambition to be president.

Whilst one has been lucky to get (4) years to fufil his ambition, the other one through his desperation has run a whole political party to the ground.

My humble plea to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is to listen to the words of collective wisdom and throw his weight behind Peter obi.

Alhaji Atiku should ignore people like Dele Momodu and take his advice with a pinch of salt. The generality of well-meaning Nigerians especially from the south cannot be wrong.

If Atiku decides to contest today, he will not get a single southern vote as all blocs will work against him, so why waste resources ?

The earlier Atiku throws his weight behind Obi and split the southern votes, the better for his coalition.

Posterity will be fair to Atiku and he will be the Godfather and party leader with God on his side.

i 2007th GDP per ca80.pita rising from
Atiku should know that, if not for his incompetency, His achievements would have been campaigning for him.

8 years as a vice and all he grew was his bank .

He grew the economy with GDP per capita rising from a low of $480.67 in 1999 to $1,815.13 by the time they left office in 2007 that is almost four time increase or 377%.

This is the strength of Atiku's consistent deregulation and privatisation capitalist worldview, which is what Argentina's Milei has used to turn around the crisis-ridden Argentinian economy in a short while. Left to Obasanjo, he would have continued his clueless economic focus on agriculture and government ownership of businesses as he did in his years as a military dictator. Obasanjo's disregard for the economy is manifest also in his endorsement of Buhari 10 years ago despite knowing that the old soldier was an olodo in economic management. Baba Iyabo, the alaimore did that after tearing the card of the party that made him president from Abacha's prison, thanks to Atiku's help and funding in 1998/1999.

citizenisb:
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo says President Muhammadu Buhari may not do well in economy and foreign affairs, except in military matters.

“Buhari is not a very hot person on the economy and foreign affairs,” Obasanjo said.

The former President stated this on Monday at the third International Conference on African Development Issues — themed, “Driving inclusive and sustainable development in Africa: Models, methods and policies” — organised by Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State.

While reacting to a question posed to him by a member of the audience: “Is there any hope for Nigeria under the istration of President Muhammadu Buhari?”, Obasanjo replied, “Is there any hope for Nigeria under this istration? I came back from Geneva, Switzerland a few days ago to attend a conference titled, ‘Are elections giving democracy a bad name?’ We had an election, we elected a leader and the good thing about democracy is that the power you have to elect a leader is also the power you have to remove him. I am saying this because I said earlier that if you don’t see any leader that has done well in the 56 years of Nigeria’s independence, then let us forget about Nigeria.

“I will tell you what I know and I will tell you what I don’t know. I know Gen. Muhammadu Buhari. He served under me in the military. His characteristics that I know, his behaviour that I know, he has not deviated from them. He was never a perfect man, he is not a perfect man and no leader can ever be a perfect man because they are human beings. But if you read my book, what I said about him is correct. He is not a hot person when it comes to economy. He is not a very hot person when it comes to foreign affairs. But he will do well in matters of military and he will do well in fighting Boko Haram.”

Flashback: How Bola Tinubu spoke highly of Buhari in 2015, named PDP ‘Poverty Development Party

National leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu had during the presidential campaign in 2015, referred to President Muhammadu Buhari as the only solution for the security and economic challenges facing Nigeria.

During a mega presidential rally, the former governor of Lagos State recalled how some powerful nations in the world returned to army generals when they were challenged, saying “Major General Buhari would revive Nigeria’s economy”.

He named the current opposition People’s Democratic Party, PDP as the “Poverty Development Party saying they had nothing to offer.

His words at the time were; “Every nation has a period of their own challenges, when America was challenged, they turned to one great man, their ex-military general, General Eisenhower. When the French were challenged, they turned to their general, Charles de Gaulle.

“When Britain was challenged, they turned to their general. Today, Nigeria is economically and physically challenged so we turn to General Muhammadu Buhari. He is the right man for the job. If you talk about military experience, he has it abundantly, he has courage, simplicity, he has it abundantly.

“If you talk about great determination, a combination of vision and ability to perform, honesty and integrity, he has it abundantly.

“I laugh when the incapable government, ‘Poverty Development Party’ PDP were talking. They have nothing again to say, they now want to question the qualifications of General Buhari and look for his certificate”.

Following the manifestos in 2015 which projected the APC presidential candidate as a ‘saviour’, Buhari defeated the then incumbent president, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan with Nigerians expecting a total change in security and economy.

2023: PDP and politics of healing Wike’s self-inflicted injury

Then, the race began in earnest for three years now, reaching a frenzy with the works of the two PDP committees on zoning. The first was the Gov Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi committee on the zoning of the PDP party offices. The Ugwuanyi committee quickly told the world the committee’s assignment did not cover zoning the office of the president. Though this was true, the question is: why didn’t the Ugwuanyi committee zone the PDP chairmanship to the North without aligning it to the divide that would produce the PDP presidential flag-bearer? The second committee headed by Gov Samuel Ortom of Benue state was specifically on the zoning of the presidential ticket and, with the votes of the representatives of all the 17 Southern states without any exception, the Committee unanimously recommended throwing open the PDP presidential ticket, which the PDP NEC simply upheld.

One thing irrefutably stands out – Wike shot himself in the leg. Here was a man who had an overarching influence on both committees but could not insist that the ticket be zoned South. Many had wondered why? The reason is also relatively in plain sight: the Southeast factor. As the clamour for zoning of the presidential ticket of the PDP to South reached its crescendo, many had pointed out the fact that though the PDP Constitution had prescribed zoning of the office of the president to be between North and South since the South-west and South-south had taken their turns in producing the president and the vice in this current dispensation in the persons of Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, zoning this time around, should not just be to the South but the Southeast.

Atiku Abubakar went a step further by offering to step down from the race if it would be agreed that the touted zoning to the South would mean micro-zoning to the Southeast. Wike and the rest could not take the Atiku challenge maybe because Atiku would likely back Peter Obi, who was his vice-presidential running mate in 2019 and an ally. The prospects of Peter Obi picking the ticket if PDP zoned South was so real compelling Wike to go for an open contest, believing he could pick it up ahead of Atiku, Tambuwal and Bala Mohammed, given his large war chest.

Obi our president of Nigeria 2027!

So why was Obi the running mate to Atiku in 2019?

Was he talking from his mind below with very relatable speech

NLCreator:
Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, has defended the purchase of sports utility vehicles (SUVs) for of the national assembly.

There have been reports that the leadership of the 10th national assembly has bought SUVs for all lawmakers.

Each SUV is said to be valued at N160 million.

The LP had asked of the party in the national assembly to kick against “wastage”.

While responding to questions during a press conference in Abuja on Monday, the former governor of Anambra said the SUVs are not personal cars of the lawmakers, noting that they are for official use.

“Let me start with the issue of Labour Party in the house. I have actually discussed this issue with them,” Obi said.

“Surprisingly, I can tell you I heard that these vehicles are official cars. They have to use it. It is meant for office.

“So it is not as if it is their vehicle. They said it is official cars and you are meant to use it while you are in the senate.”

Obi also hinted at contesting for the country’s number one position in 2027, adding that Nigeria deserves dedicated and visionary leaders who will lead the country towards a brighter future.

He was saying the truth. Those are official cars. In a public office like government istration, you need office cars whether you are well-paid or not. Its part of the structure or official formation.

Atiku who was a vice president wants to be relevant when he had the opportunity and did absolutely nothing.

Bi should go and see how he made the people of Anambra to suffer when he was the governor.

Two unserious power seekers as if they've got something different to offer....
