brightk: Omotoda's advice was given based on the experience of using a similar inverter. So is mine. He doesn't need to worry about another charger as these inverters don't even have equalisation modes if I correctly. |

abuzz33: So how's this math correct? Have u forgotten it takes 2pc of the 220ah to get 24v? Which in turn means that u're getting 2.1kwh (according) to ur maths at 540k (bear in mind that tubularor gel or any other lead acid offeringat this price point is substandard), while still according to ur maths, u're getting 2.5kwh for 600k, mind you this includes a smaller size, faster charging, longer battery life and of course no maintenance. Bros no vex but try calm down small, let's not overflog this issue, the lithium vs lead acid battery comparison war ended almost 2yrs ago. Let him that has teeth chew kolanut...... Cheers 9 Likes |

brightk: Another thing you might not realise is that if he switches off the charging profile of that inverter, it kills the ability of that inverter to act as an automatic UPS, which I can tell you from personal experience is quite stressful for him to changeover every time NEPA takes light. At least, lets first let him worry about obtaining the battery. On the first day he can charge it up for a while and observe it directly if he has a multimeter (which everyone in this forum should at least have by now). |

saint2ace:...but there are MaintainNance Free Deep Cycle batteries na. As for the so called war, I tell you say na person without personal experience go bother. Those wey Tubular or GEL / SLA / VRLA / AGM battery don serve, go hear all the praises rained on Lithium batteries, rush go buy am; hopefully they don't get disAppointed if they're Lucky or their useCase fits in. Another set are FRESHERs (new Comers) to Solar world. For the likes of Us wey don dey play with chemicals, from small, come still dey extract batteries from laptop batteries at less than age 18-years old dey build mini backUps, I wonder wetin those wey only got to know solar when it became popular thanks to APC regime wan tell us. Personally, I decide when to go Tubular, and when to go SLA / GEL. Lithium has got it's place especially if size (Portability) & weight is a consideration - the more reason it's used in electric Cars / Bikes (weight factor) , Gadgets e.g Phones, PCs, etc (portability). Mind you, Lead Acid batteries are much cheaper upfront than lithium based batteries. Similar reason a lot of people prefer buying Generator, than going Solar. Lithium batteries can cost as much as 2 to 3 times more upFront. What about Simplicity, and the fact it's been battle tested and rugged. What about in places with much Heat ? Abeg make I go chop. been battling with database data recovery for a new client since Sunday. To get client sweet, to collect Money sweet, but the work na die. 1 Like |

bassdow: What's the price of an AGM/GEL from a reputable brand? Pls state and run a price comparism for us as against the above stated argument. Secondly, a greater percentage of people SUGGESTING lithium are all coming from a lead acid background, some for more than 15 to 20yrs, built my first inverter setup In 2008/9. As per ur the DIY route for lithium based batteries, I believe I have built more DIY packs to give me enough first hand experience and technical know how to advise any newbie on the right path to take. When you chop finish we await ur writeup. Cheers 6 Likes |

Bruteality1: Let's get it straight, no one is disputing this fact that it won't serve, the fact all boils down to value for money even if it's small money. Whether you use Keke, kurupe, bus, taxi, Uber, corolla or Gwagon, you must reach ur destination. Sha choose wisely. Cheers 5 Likes |

Most of you don't know that some of us were chronic s of lead acids. I usually buy dead ones and wake them up with my Anjing AJ - 618F lithium/lead acid charger. I do this for clients to for free. Omo! Things don change now. My car battery is more than 2 years old as I still use this same charger to desulphate the acid. WHAT KILLS LEAD ACID IS SULPHUR IN LEAD PLATES which you can't stop especially when left for just few weeks uncharged. Most tubulars are heavily sulphated before getting to the country as most spend roughly 3 months on sea before offloading in Nigeria. Now that something new has come..... So when I see you guys debating this..... Hard to type.. All thanks to @Sathob. He was last seen December 22, 2013 though. 3 Likes |

dollarnaira:Similar thing on Lithium batteries also as with age, they drop in quality. apart from how long they have stayed before getting to the markets, you don't know how long they stayed on Shelves before you came to buy it. You can't compare a lithium battery manufactured in year 2014, and bought 2-months after, with another that's bought 3-years after. If you think I am over talking, go to where they sell laptop batteries, (or any Lithium battery) tell them to give you a new one, check it's date of manufacture. Really have no issue with Lithium battery chemistry, but the fact people keep promoting it like it's the next best thing to ever happen to Man, like it's got no downsides of it's own. AnyOne in Computer world would tell you how lovely SSDs are compared to the likes of Hard-disks, and it's siblings BUT na when you run into Data issues (corruption / damage / loss) you go come to appreciate Hard Disks. As in chances of recovery are much higher with hardDisks, than SSDs. In fact just leaving the SSD for long without powering it on, is enough for it to slowly loss data. But people (mostly uninformed or sellers or manufacturers) would keep singing to you how fast SSDs are compared to previous alternatives. They would tell you how your Computer would boot-up in less than 2-seconds; as if it matters to large percentage of people. I could run my work computers (Laptops and Desktops) for months without ever restarting it. What about Servers, which are only restarted when need be. Yes SSDs has got it's PROs, but got it's CONs also. If you come preach to me only the PROs, with no mention of the CONs, I go get your time. if there are SSDs, and even hard-disk (which is slower than SSDs), why do big companies still use Tape Drives which are even a lot SLOWer than hard-disks which are in turn slower than SSDs ? Its nothing other than the fact everything got it's strong and weak points. You just need know where and when to use which. Make una continue to dey argue, me go try continue to dey get time to dey type epistles. You can refurbish a Tubular / SLA / GEL batteries, and give them a second chance; same way you still got chances to get things out of a non SSD disk, You can't, or have super Less chances with SSDs, or Lithium batteries. What about safety issues with regards Lithium battery chemistry ? They rarely tell you those. Who knows, a lot of people arguing here, might only be using Lithium batteries in their phones or laptops, not even as Solar battery, but still want to belong. Some of us never see 1-miillion before to begin with. Abi no be banks talk say a greather number of Nigerians no get up to 500,000 naira for . Funny thing is, if I be una, I no go bother because lots of people don't read. When I first saw this thread, I took time to READ through over 500 pages but you go see people wey go come, read 1 or 2 pages, and begin ask questions already long discussed numerous times. Even when you ask them to read through the pages, na lie. they so so lazy. 1 Like |

At end of the day, Manufacturers don't want us to be able to reuse things. There's a reason my kind find it difficult using products from Apple. Ever wonder why New versions of things keeps having less chances of being reused like their older counterparts |

Me dey speak mostly from experience, and Knowledge. You need maths to tell you the viability of a Lithium battery decreases as it ages even while still on shelves. Keep waiting |

bassdow: Do grace me with a response on the shelf life of lithium battery is lead acid batteries. (Lithium when stored at BTW 50 -70% SOC or even while used will degrade to 80% in 10yrs) meaning you only lose 20% capacity in 10yrs, while lead acid will sulphate even while sitting on the shelf for only a year and if not attended to, will permanently damage in 2yrs if not desulphated. |
