Church cancels wedding over bride’s refusal to spend the night in host pastor’s house

A wedding ceremony slated to hold at Assemblies of God Church, Okpu 2, in Aba, Abia State, weekend, was cancelled by the Church following the alleged refusal of the bride to adhere to the church’s pre-marriage procedures.

It was gathered that the bride refused to spend the night at the parsonage of the church where she was supposed to have been counseled by the wife of the officiating priest on the eve of the wedding.

It was also gathered that in accordance with the church’s tradition, a pregnancy test was to be conducted on her before the wedding.

The bride, it was alleged, was properly informed that the processes would be observed before the wedding which she earlier agreed to, according to her knowledge of the Assemblies of God doctrine but did not show up on the eve of her wedding.

According to Promise Uzoma Okoro, “the bride’s refusal to stay at the parsonage, as required, prompted church authorities to cancel the wedding.”

“Guests had already assembled for the event when the announcement was made”, Okoro disclosed.

It was not confirmed if the bride and her husband-to-be procured the service of another pastor to them together in another church.

Guests and well wishes who came for the wedding from different places, dispersed in disappointment and confusion.

Neither the church nor the couple has released any official statement on the issue as of the time of filing this report.

Call it old school or old fashion, if all this new generation churches have some guidelines to tame the nonchalant attitudes of our GenZ era, lots wouldn't be happening.

I also love the fact that the church permits you to wed in another church if you're not ready to follow their principles, then come back with your wife if you like.
A serious minded AG church will not lower the standard for any reason, and it helps.

What happens to our traditional marriage? I've noticed that many Nigerians are opting for church weddings. It’s time we confidently embrace our traditional African customs. While peace may not always be assured, we would be honoring our ancestors and celebrating our rich heritage.

Since the bride agree to the and conditions I see no reason why she failed to show up so the bride is at fault....

I no blame d Bride some churches pre wedding procedures na hell.... although for dis case nothing is bad there..is either d Bride is hiding something maybe possible pregnancy or she urinates on d bed at night that makes her refused to sleep at pastonage

Traditional Marriage is what brought your linage into existence.

For her to even consider marrying there means she's been there for long or maybe she was even raised there.
Before she even go against the doctrine, I'm 100% sure someone must have reminded her again what the church expects from her. Just follow the instruction or forget about wedding in the church. They is no point trying to give the church a bad name because u feel you can change things
