There's a reason EOD is still everywhere on the road today, despite the so-called ball t issue. If you want to know about Honda, ask someone that drives Honda.

This issue is always blown out of proportion usually by ill-informed people to scare people away from buying Hondas.
All cars (even the ones with Maherson suspension) has the tendency of having a leg pull out if not properly taken cared of.
Buy what you would love and enjoy driving. There's absolutely nothing wrong with a well maintained 7th gen Accord.
For the record, I prefer the 7th gen Accord (aka EOD and DC) to the 8th gen Accord (aka Evil spirit) as I consider it a better car.

First, I want to say a big thank you to the creator of this forum. I’ve been looking for something like this for years—nice one!

I own my first Honda car, an LX Accord 2013, which I bought as a Nigerian-used vehicle in December 2022. I got it at a very good deal at the time, but deep down, I knew things don’t come that cheap. I was prepared for whatever issues came up! 😄

A week after purchase, the problems started. First, there was oil leakage from the engine, followed by the engine struggling to generate enough power to climb hills. Then, the check engine light and other warning lights popped up—my dashboard was like a Christmas tree! 😅 Upon inspection, the engine was opened up, and it was packed with oil sludge! There were so many issues: the oil pump was faulty, there were piston problems, and more. I decided to replace the engine entirely, and honestly, that was the best decision I made!

After that, I decided to upgrade the look of the car. I transformed it into a 2015 Honda Accord Touring model and replaced the seats with leather. I also installed four brand-new tires, replaced the vapor canister (to resolve the persistent check engine light), changed the spark plugs, brake pads, and steering rack.

To be honest, I didn’t do all the repairs and upgrades at once. It took me about four months to complete everything, costing around ₦1.5m to ₦1.7m in total. But mehn! I fell in love with the car! Money well spent!

Since April 2023, I haven’t had a single check engine light come on. I service the car religiously when the oil life percentage reaches 15%. Maintenance-wise, I always use full synthetic foreign engine oil. For coolant, I stick to the original Honda Long Life Coolant Type 2. I’m very cautious about what goes into the engine—engine don cost oo! 😅

Regarding fuel consumption, I always refill the tank when it gets to half. I’ve never let it go below that point—it’s easier and costs less that way. On average, I get around 170 to 190 miles from a full tank to half. It costs me about ₦35k to ₦40k to fill it up from half.

Currently, I’m planning to get a Honda CR-V EX-L 2018. 😁

Before I forget, a big shout-out to my mechanic, Alhaji Muri! He’s the most honest and respectful mechanic I’ve ever worked with. He’s especially good with electrical issues and has plenty of diagnostic tools to tackle any problem. Another shout-out to My Parts Nigeria, where I get my engine oil, filters, coolant, and other parts—they sell genuine products imported from the USA.

Good evening house, I drive a Honda dc 2006, but I have a problem with its braking.

First of all, the ABS light and brake lights on the dashboard are on, the brake light comes and goes, but my main problem is that when I am driving on the highway, on high speed, the brake is very sharp, in fact, too sharp for my liking, but occasionally, when in traffic or driving slowly and trying to get to a standstill, the brake totally fails, like doesn't work at all. It happened one time I was trying to the highway and a man suddenly just walked into the front of my car, I was pressing the brake but the car totally refused to stop and was moving slowly towards the man, I was pressing the horn for the man to move away but it fell on deaf ears, I had to pump the brake a few inches away from the man before it stopped.

The second scenario, a highlander was in front of me, trying to make a turn at an illegal/shortcut route, I was applying brake behind but it just slowed down and refused stop totally until I hit the highlander, the third scenario happened today, a civic was trying to turn while I was coming, the path was em not clear but you know Lagos drivers and their madness, he quickly entered the road expecting me to stop, and truly, even tho I had the right of way, I was applying brake but again, it refused to stop, it just slowed down until I hit the civic.

The man couldn't complain cos he knew he was at fault, but the whole thing has me worried, has anyone ever faced this problem before? It never happens while on full speed, but only happens when I am moving very slowly. Going by this recent development, I go too bash cars for traffic o, all these started in less than 3 weeks, please help.

Nairaland really needs to ask for birth certificates cos what the hell is this extreme level of dumbness? Are you so stupid that you can't proffer solutions/suggestions without proving to the world that you are indeed a tout?

I really hope it's you I see on the road when next it fails, I'll be doing the world a favor by eradicating one less fool. They can't jail me for car accidents after all.

The exact issue some young man with the same car came to fix at my mechanic's place few days back, have you checked your brake fluid? Replace if too old and there's more trouble if way low.
You say it happens when you move slowly and try to stop, does the brake pedal get soft and go all the way down at this time? Any different feel to it compared to when it is 'sharp 'at high speeds? Your issue could just be pressure loss along the lines or something wrong in the master cylinder, any good mechanic can fix this within minutes.
The same reason I always never expect vehicles to stop for me while I cross the road on foot or try to make a turn where I shouldn't while driving, one can never be too careful 😏, you should fix it as soon as possible, many Nigerians think walking fast or running while crossing the road takes out their "steeze" dem no sabi as e dey go, d car won turn you to Bashir like this.

As for your brake, I think your brake master cylinder needs replacement. Make sure the vacuum hose to the brake is ok. It has a one way valve, test it first. Make sure you don't have a vacuum leak.

Thank you, my hydraulic is still guaged, I changed it around November, however, I will drain it and put a new one before I go to oyingbo to get it done when I have time sometime next week. For now, to drive the car dey fear me, yes, it only happens when driving slowly, the most recent one, when I stepped on the brake, it slowed down, then suddenly continued going normally, I pressed it till it went down, the time was too short to try pumping the brake, again, there were cars behind me, pumping it will most likely result in sudden stops, which I may now have to pay for someone else's car for a fault that isn't mine. Thank you for your response.

Ps. Was your mechanic able to get it fixed? If yes, can I please have his number so he can sort mine out when I am ready?.

Check for vacuum leaks.
The hose that goes into the brake booster has a one-way valve. Confirm if valve is still fine or facing right direction.

Hmmm... This isn't the case for me. Just like @agoodman mentioned, I also prefer the 7th generation due to the faster acceleration it has (for me). The fact that both generations share the K24 engine series is just makes me see no reason to get the 8th generation (for now). I'm just stuck with my EOD even after several opportunities to upgrade the car, but I just won't give it up.

The 2017 Accord is the only generation I think I might move directly to when the time is right.

my own eod acceleration isn't that fast o. Even on express, smaller cars dey dust me. Gets worse if I put on ac. The only code I have Is the catalyst absence. I just changed my plugs to brand new no difference. Pls what else can I do? Not that it's worse but a 2.4l engine should get more power fah. It's 4plugs though

I bought a naija used CRV .the check engine light and brake light is on on the dashboard. The car consumes so much fuel.

Any advice?
Cryomancer:

Well done Sir. You've really done well in ensuring a perfect ride experience.

Concerning your fuel consumption, I'll advise you revert your fan to factory setting for fuel optimization. Buying a catalyst has no impact on your fuel consumption because it's strictly emission control. So long your o2 sensor is fine, then you have nothing to worry. However, if you're in the class of someone like me who hates to see check engine light on dashboard, then you can get the China catalyst installed to clear that light.

As for your gear, I think you need to see a gear specialist for best advise. Try to get it serviced first, but if the situation no improve, abeg just save up and buy a new gear to save you lots of headache.

You're a very strong man for carrying out such repairs in this economy and God will replenish your pocket.

Hmmm... Does your engine burn oil and how is the timing too? Try checking the pressure of your engine. You can keep the engine running, then open your oil cap to see if the sound that comes out is mixed with air (that's a quick pressure test I was taught)

I use same EOD and my acceleration is top notch. I rival cars on the road and I've been known on 3rd mainland bridge for my constant speed between 4:30 - 5pm daily.

Kindly check your engine thoroughly... There must be an issue somewhere.

Please get your car scanned to ascertain the reason why that check engine light is on, because there are so many reasons why a check engine light comes on, and I'm sure you'll also get the culprit for your high fuel consumption when you get the car scanned.

The break light that's also illuminated can also be caused by many things and this can be detected by a scanner. Firstly check to ensure your handbrake is not pulled out of position.

it doesn't burn oil at all and didn't have any timing code. But I noticed something- when accelerating, it will hesitate only to pick suddenly.
