I knew this would happen because I once suspected that Aregbesola was El-Rufai’s initial choice for the 2023 presidential election, before he was prevailed upon to Tinubu.
Now, they may wish to sponsor him to divide Tinubu’s base in the North (being a staunch Muslim) and South West (being a Yoruba man).
If that happens, Tinubu needs to reach out to the south south to augment his followership.

Tinubu is unlikely capable of dislodging Peter Obi among Nigerian Christians largely because of religious sentiments and his cult- followership among the youths.
The Yorubas may be indifferent between Tinubu and Aregbesola, and this may hugely impact Tinubu’s electoral fortunes negatively. It’s still a long night.

Assuming that I accept your analogy that Aregbesola will lose woefully, he does not need to win anywhere but if he is able to play the spoiler and take a sizable chunk, let’s say 3 million, off Tinubu’s traditional votes, Tinubu may get the spread but unable to win the majority votes and if this happens, a re-run will take place.
Tinubu will be left with no option than to negotiate with the Aregbesola’s party

How's El Rufia a presidential candidate. When did SDP conduct their primaries?.

This coalition has made more noise than accomplishing results.

First, Atiku announced coalition without any member of the PDP present. He expects PDP to the train because he considers himself a bankable candidate. In his coalition announcement was Nasir El Rufai, Yunusa Tanko and Babachir Lawal.

Today, Yunusa Tanko is promoting registration and hip cards for the Obidient Movement. Peter Obi has said that he'd not any coalition aimed at grabbing power.

Nasir El Rufai decamped to SDP and took only one comedian with him who has declared to run for chairmanship of AMAC council. He is still desperately courting politicians and posting photographs as seen here.

Very soon, expect a meeting with Osinbajo.
