LAMATA Goes Wood: Innovative Solution to Drain Manhole Cover Theft

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) is implementing a clever and cost-effective solution to the persistent problem of metal manhole cover theft at BRT laybys across the state.

In this video, Engr. Kemi Ochei from the Public Transport Roads department revealed that LAMATA is now utilizing wood for the construction of these flood drain covers.

This strategic shift away from metal aims to eliminate the incentive for theft, ensuring the safety and functionality of the drainage systems along the busy bus corridors.

This move is expected to provide a more sustainable and secure solution for commuters and infrastructure alike.

Country seems to be irredeemable
We are more loyal to politicians than Nigeria.

A country with no collective dream, no general purpose. Just exiting without plan.

It won't last. You can't compare wood to concrete when it comes to wear n tear

Those wide Mahogany boards sure have as much market value as iron, thus will surely be attractive to thieves.

Beautiful. Everywhere on Lagos roads, you keep seeing open points where a car could land into and have a terrible accident, just because of some people's greed...

The Same set of people are the ones stealing railway tracks.

People here amaze me honestly - the metal ones don't last for days because they get stolen - but a low-cost solution that will at least give you a year is "it won't work". So what will work engineer sir?

I think a thick plastic mould would have been better but if it's hard word as I see it looks if not just sprayed to look so it will last too.

No, unlike iron that can be melted and reshped, wood that has already been cut into that very small shape is useless to any carpenter

It has no resale value like steel. Very low incentive for the thieves. High risk, low reward... grin
