A month ago, I paid for a vehicle change of ownership and A new Number Plate. I strictly told and explained to the guy in charge that there's a mix match of a number on the chassis numbers (that is, they put 5 instead of S) on the old documents and I have changed the engine that I want everything corrected because policemen have been extorting me just because of that.

I went as far as outlining the chassis number and the engine number for, gave him the affidavits I did and also snapped the chassis number on the vehicle and sent to his WhatsApp. I took the car there and he snapped everything too.

On several occasions, I called to begged and to remind him not to make any mistake on the documents and he assured me not to worry.

Two weeks later, my Number Plate and documents came out but unfortunately, it was as if they did copy and paste. The same mistake on the old documents was not corrected and the engine number was not corrected too. I rejected it immediately.

I was told it would be corrected but it has been one story or another ever since.

What should I do please?

Are you in Lagos? If yes then here's the steps to take.

Go to VIO HQ office at ojodu Berger ask for autoreg, they will help you investigate if the VIN has been blacklisted. If not they will tell you to take the autoreg certificate to ministry for transportation at alausa.

Before you go to alausa make sure you have the change of ownership certificate that carries the authentic VIN. The person that sold the vehicle to you should be able to first in Nigeria to the change of ownership in their name so you complete the process at alausa.

But on norm the place you did plate number allocation should be able to make corrections for you if they know their work. Also police no suppose disturb you if indeed you have done authentic court affidavit that states you're aware there's mixup on the VIN on your car document.
