Problem is those VO can mess with your head and start thinking what went wrong .

My transcript ...

Me : Good afternoon Sir, how are you today ?

VO : Good morning, Im fine .. Can I see your port please ?

Me : Here it is

Vo: Why are you going to the US ?

Me : I'm going for Bleep summit ... He didnt' hear well so I explained a bit further.

Vo : What do you do here ?

Me : I'm a student here at xyz Uni , studying xyz and I'm also the CEO of xyz company.

Vo: How long have you been with the school.

Me : I've been with the school for 1 year.

VO: WHo is sponsporing your trip .

Me : I am personally funding the trip .. But I also have some financial from the company

VO : Have you ever traveled to other countries ?

Me : Yes, I was vacationing in December in , Belgium and Netherlands . And I've been to Dubai a few times.

VO : He checked my port which was just renewed , then he asked for my visa... I gave him a copy of my Schengen Visa issued by .

VO; With how they say there thing when you are denied... So he handed me this their generic denial white paper with no details of why you were denied.

So, I thought about it and I think I made a mistake with the response to how long I've been with the school. I resumed Sept 2023 and I stated that on my DS-160 . What do you guys think I got wrong?

Sorry about the refusal. I think the major issue was that the visa officer was not convinced about the relevance of the summit to your education or job.

You may wish to try again - but build your travel history. Dubai doesn't really count. Try UK, Canada.....

They do not ask for documents to prove that you are going for graduation. You just prepare to defend the reason for your trip.

Thank you for this response. Appreciate

You cannot edit an already submitted form.

But you can fill a new form and same details. Hoever, when booking appointment, just ensure to use the DS-160 form number of the form you eventually want to use for the application.

If you have already booked an appointment and have need to change the DS-160 form you want to use, you'll raise a service request about this on your AVITS profile and it will be done from the backend for you.

Hey guys,
I need your advice...
My dropped-off on 3rd April with an emergency approval which requires me to book my flight & hotel on 21st April.
I am yet to get a status of my IW Visa to enable me confirm the logistics.

What should I do to know my status, so that I could meet that deadline?

You can't. You are advised to attend your interview in the original location you picked. I believe you will need to pay another fee.

Perharps others can help.

You won't be paying another fee. All you have do are as follows:
1. Fill another DS160 and choose Abuja.
2. Raise a ticket on your AVITS portal that you want to update your DS160.

That's all, the issue will be rectified within 24-48 hours.

Gracias.

Hi, I have been reading through comments and noticed this question: "Are you planning to get any medical treatment while in the U.S.? ". I am applying for a Visitor's visa for my Mom to come see me and I am fully sponsoring the trip. I'm curious,if she says she will receive medical attention, would that reduce her chances?

Deziri20:
My mum’s visa was approved yesterday in Lagos, and it still feels surreal. This was her second attempt we applied for B2 visa category for her and unlike the first time, everything happened so quickly. We got to the embassy, and in less than 20 minutes, she was done.

Here’s how the conversation went:

VO: Good morning.
Mum: Good morning! How are you doing?
VO:Why are you traveling to the U.S.?
Mum: To visit my daughter, she just had a baby.
VO: How long do you plan to stay?
Mum: Two months.
VO: How did your daughter move to the U.S.? Mum: She got married and relocated.
VO: Are you married? If so, why isn’t your husband traveling with you?
Mum: Yes, I’m legally married. My husband and I agreed that I should be the one to go, while he stays back with one of our children in Nigeria until I return.
VO: Are you planning to get any medical treatment while in the U.S.?
Mum: No, not at all.
VO:How many children do you have?
Mum: Six, but sadly, one recently ed on.
VO: How many of them are in the U.S.?
Mum: Just one. The rest are here in Nigeria.
VO: What do you do for a living?
Mum: I’m a retired teacher.
VO: Who is funding your trip?
Mum: My daughter the one I’m visiting.
VO: What does she do?
*Mum: She’s a nurse.
VO: How long has she been in the U.S.?
Mum: 8yrs.
VO: Is this her first child? If not, why didn’t you travel to see her when she had the first one?
Mum: No, this is her second child. She had her first in 2022, but my visa was denied back then.

At this point, the officer started typing, then suddenly excused herself for a moment. When she returned, she asked again:

VO: Are you sure you’re not going to the U.S. for medical treatment?
Mum: I’m very sure.

Then, the officer smiled and said, “I’ll be approving your visa. I hope you have a wonderful time with your daughter.”

My mum smiled back and said, “Thank you so much.”

Thanks to Nairaland I gained a lot of information on this thread that was helpful

Hello.
It is a delicate question. Americans (govt organisations) wants the truth. If they ask you " have you rob before ? And you says yes" i have robbed before but I have changed " They tend to give you another chance and trust you but you will be kept on radar (monitoring).

In your mom's case if you (the sponsor) are absolutely capable financially in of status and your mom has a physical or glaring body defects ( using walking sticks, slow walking , weel chair , etc) as a result of old age why not ? You can say she will use the opportunity to seek medical attention.

Even if she is upright and sound and physically fit (but with internal defects) she can still tell the truth. It all depends on the availability of funds from the sponsor as well as the sponsor's profile.

NOTE: Any senior citizen (older people ) going to America (especially with obvious body weakness) is usually seen as trying to seek a medical attention. The US embassy does not care but do you have the money to fund it ? Happy Easter.

Yes. I am absolutely capable financially. I work as an engineer and can fund it BUT I am just concerned about that question reducing her chances despite presenting a sufficient amount in the bank statement. Someone here said, once you are asked to provide documents, it means your chances are reducing. I don't know how true that is, though. She has a couple of broken teeth though smiley and I would like her to see the orthodontist - that's all.

Your last statement (Any senior citizen (older people ) going....) makes a lot of sense too.
Thank you @Efetobore1980 and Happy Easter

Hello.
I don't believe the statement that once you are ask to bring a document by the embassy it's a visa chances reduction.

Narrate your mom's teeth fixing in the visa application (ds-160) and teach her to state it if asked by the consular . Truth is all they need.

If possible you should the orthodontist and get appointment for mom before hand. The orthodontist address and info can be stated in the part of the ds-160 that ask : where else do you want to visit in the US ?

US consulars knows that 85% of senior citizens have one medical issue or the other due to years of bodily activities or stress (especially women). Good LucK.

My mom's interview is scheduled for next month (May). The Nigerian port she used for her visa application will expire in February 2026, so she recently renewed it some days ago. The new one has both the new and old port numbers in it.

Does she need to update her DS-160? She plans to take both current and renewed ports along for the interview.

Hi Ancorner.
Ds -160 (visa application) is a vital form and it mostly determine how your overall personality and application is viewed. Despite the fact that your Travel port usually carries old and new port number but ds-160 is an individual application form which requires only your valid port number.

Fill another ds-160 with her updated information, update the ds-160 in her avits profile and print another visa appointment letter for her. There is plenty of time for you to do this so don't hesitate. 👍
