Ordinary citizens know how to get prepaid meters and get officials to install them. A deputy governor of Lagos state is here telling us fabs on how it is difficult for him to get meters and installation in government house.

You guys need to learn to not insult the intelligence of the people even though there are some of your minions that may believe you.

If a whole deputy gov can be frustrated about getting metered, imagine what the common man is going through!

Trust me he’s not frustrated. He’s only trying to paint a picture of frustration. He’s lying.

i have been on a meter matter for over a year. if everyone is metered disco revenue will drop. that is my take on the matter.

No it may rise.

The problem here is estimated billing. It is a ripoff being done by discos on consumers because a large number of their consumer bas e do not pay for power.

In my disco area you have large areas where people even pay nothing or pay 2000 a month even if they used more power than that.

As a result discos face losses and to make up for those losses they rip off existing customers on estimated billing

Metering self, there is the problem of bying meters. That makes the losses worse.

Add price controls and you have a situation whereby power companies have to survive by ripoff and cheating consumers.

It's effed up. And it all starts from the fact that most Nigerians believe in free electricity.

The same people abusing PDP and Jonathan then ooo..

Fashola even said a responsible government will solve power problem within six months

Pdp also instituted the price controls that apc continued that prevent the power sector from making money.

And pdp did not improve power. You are behaving like the apc defender who say their party has done well for power. No matter what fashooa said, it does not excuse pdp failures in power

Corrupt leaders prefer estimated billing so that they can inflate the invoices and embezzled funds. If it's metered it can easily be tracked.

You are on Band A,
The issue is not the BAND A, The issue is GREED. Let me explain, Most controllers are on the take from filling stations association. There is a particular fee they donate monthly to them to hurd the light. You cant get light from 6pm to like 11pm if the fuel stations are much in your area or state. In my location in delta in less than 1km base area, there are 13 filling stations and two new ones are gearing up. If they bring the light by 6pm to 12am, No one would buy fuel for generators and thats 40-60% of their profits and bribery money is not funds you can remit to the real discos (GREED) So the obvious places where you they cant restrict the power to certain hours are taxed ridiculously.
But it also comes majorly from the Elites, Dont expect good power supply when Dangote Station has just kicked in and his friend owns one of the biggest powerplant in the nation. Think of how much Nigerians use in buying fuel daily for business like hotels, supermarkets, banks, etc etc 😂, THEN HOUSEHOLD TOO. ITS A VERY SERIOUS AND POWERFUL CONGLOMERATE OF GREEDY ANIMALS.

Please read his comments again. He didn't tell you he can't pay, but that the bill was estimated and outrageous. From #2.7m in the month of March to #29m in April, what did he use to get to this and the have refused to connect him with his prepaid meter.
Mind you, he lives in a government quarters.

The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat, has cried out that the utility company supplying electricity to his quarters raised his bill from N2.7m in March to N29m in April.

Hamzat said the DisCo also frustrated his efforts to get metered despite paying for a prepaid meter.

The deputy governor said this Monday at a roundtable held in Victoria Island between the REA and the Lagos State Government.

The REA and Lagos State Government were in Lagos to sign a Memorandum of Understanding for the electrification of rural communities in Lagos.

Hamzat, who represented Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the event, decried what he called ‘crazy billing’.

“People that are trying to survive, and the common denominator for them is power. They don’t have power. There are billing challenges. In fact I’m a very good example.

“Last month, in my house, or the state house that I live in, the bill was N2.7m last month. This month, Eko DisCo sent us a bill of 29m. I sent it to the Commissioner for Energy. It’s crazy. I actually procured a meter. I bought a meter to say, ’Look, don’t give estimated billin’g. I bought the meter, but to convert it is wahala,” he lamented.

He narrated how a consumer in the Coker Aguda area of the state was charged N2.8m when his rent is N2m.

“There’s a place called Coker Aguda in Surulere, and people came to me, and I was asking them to calm down. A man’s rent in a year is about N2m; they gave him a bill of N2.8m for electricity. How can the bill be more than the man’s rent for a year? Those are the challenges that we have.

“Our people are suffering because of estimated billing,” he stated.

Is this not part of the hyperinflation that ebilokan said has crashed in preparation for his midterm assessment?

Why do these APC guys love telling useless lies so much

treesun:
Nigeria’s headline inflation has dropped to 24.48 per cent year on year in January 2025.

This is a sharp decline from the 34.80 per cent headline inflation recorded in December 2024.

This is according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). The Statistician-General of the Federation Adeyemi Adeniran announced this on Tuesday.

Yes it would. And it only shows that phcn has been stealing from Nigerians from time immemorial.

They know it, the government knows it, we know it.

I'm on prepaid. I know what I went through to get the meter and the month the meter was fixed they added over 120k to my bill claiming it was the last months bill. I went to nerc to complain and that took over 3 months and they finally released me at 30k left or so

Every time I loaded the meter they deducted from the 120k outstanding bill. I hear am that time.

This country is a joke.
