The suspects — Yusuf Abdulkarim, Mujaheed Garba, Shittu Idris, and Jamilu Habibu — were intercepted at Ikpoba Hill while travelling from Doguwa in Kano State to Uvbe Community in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State.

Operatives of the Edo State Security Network (ESN) have arrested four suspected armed travellers in Benin City, Edo State, recovering weapons in a swift operation aimed at curbing insecurity in the state.

According to the spokesman for the Edo State Police Command, CSP Moses Joel Yamu, the operation led to the recovery of three Dane guns, six empty cartridges, three half-filled cartridges, four cutlasses, and two daggers from the suspects.

“The command wishes to inform the general public that four (4) suspects Yusuf Abdulkarim, Mujaheed Garba, Shittu Idris, and Jamilu Habibu intercepted by a member of the Edo Security Network with three (3) Dane guns, six (6) empty cartridges, three (3) half-filled cartridges, four (4) cutlasses and two (2) daggers, were swiftly taken over by officers from the Ikpoba Hill Police Station,” CSP Yamu said in an official statement.

The incident, which took place less than a month after at least 16 armed travellers were lynched by locals in Uromi, Esan North-East LGA, has stirred renewed public concern over the influx of armed individuals into the state.

Addressing circulating rumours, CSP Yamu debunked reports suggesting that four armed herdsmen were arrested at a hotel in the Ramat Park area of Benin City.

“The Edo Command is aware of a misinformation on the social media that four herdsmen armed with guns were arrested at Americanus hotel on Osemwenkhae Street after Big Joe motors, Ramat Park Orogbeni Quarters and handed over to the Police,” he said.

“Preliminary investigation reveals that they are hunters, not herdsmen. They were from Doguwa in Kano State heading to Uvbe Community in Orhionwon LGA of Edo State. Meanwhile, investigation is ongoing.”

The Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, urged residents of Edo State to avoid spreading unverified information that could stoke fear or ethnic tension.

“We appeal to the public to always any information before sharing. False reports only serve to create panic and disrupt peace in our communities,” Agbonika stated.

Why is it okay for northerners to bear illegal arms all over the country but southerners don't bear arms at all? Two constitutions, one country! undecided

Shouldn't Hunters stay back in their states & hunt instead of travelling all over the country with arms? Especially with tensions arising from the recent lynching incident.

Do they even have gun permits for those guns?

Though they're single shot rifles, with usage, time and experience, one can develop some level of operational dexterity in their use becoming super fast with loading, firing, reloading, firing and so and so on...

My point is, these weapons should not be allowed to be carried interstate without necessary approvals and documentation.

They should've eliminated them. They're kidnappers. Idiots keep thinking the ones killed in Uromi were hunters. Is there no forest in the north? These people are kidnappers. They're gradually moving southwards. Send these baboons to their maker before anything.

Are they not hunters anymore? The police should even allow them to hunt in the market.
If the case that happened had not come up, the police would have been more invested in harassing car owners for their daily cash-out mission instead of sets of uncivilized pons allowed to travel multiple state borders with dangerous arms.

I hope they are not just pulling off a stunt. If they had not failed at their jobs, people would not have to take matters into their own hands.

The image of some well-meaning northerners all over the country is also in a terrible state because the bad eggs, who have terrorized their people too, are allowed to act freely in other places.

Everyone is getting kidnapped and family abused in helpless conditions but the security force is so ionate about collecting 200 naira from public transport drivers

Nigeria police and misplaced priorities

I pity Edo people ooh, for you to know there is an agenda brewing, if these guys are ordinary hunters, with what happened few weeks ago shouldn't they be scared to ply that route? The guns no dey kill human beings?
The only reason this info is getting out is because they were caught by the vigilante, if they were seen by the police, they'll allow them and no one will here of it, all we'll be hearing is that they're ransacking villages.
I'll advise the vigilante in every community in Nigeria to be alert, the only way to stop this obvious invasion is to summarily execute anybody caught with arms without bringing it to social media. Imagine the police is already making excuses for them.
Kill them before they kill you!

if dem lynch these ones Reno and e clan of clowns go begin cry foul.

by the way why is it easy for these guys up north to bear sophisticated arms with ease, but an ordinary farmer would be thoroughly investigated for carrying his cutlass. One Nigeria I hail thee.

Don't mind the people claiming they're hunters. Shebi, people in the places they're going don't hunt. Nonsense and ingredients.

In Abia state you could get arrested for just moving around with matchet and the police will say you're going around with a DANGEROUS WEAPON

I wonder how people with a high record of kidnapping and killing people moves around freely with guns and they are showered with praises

Why can't we call a spade a spade
Crime is crime
Terrorism is terrorism

We have bandits
Unknown gunmen
Fulani herdsmen
Boko haram
Those operating as freedom fighters

We just keep playing politics with everything
