This actual Alaafin was chosen by Professor Wande Abimbola (Former VC of OAU in the 1980s) who also happens to be an Ifa priest.

The oyo mesi was brushed aside after the governor realized that they had been bought with money.

Today is a joyful day in Oyo, after the demise of Oba Lamidi, It took Oyo 4yrs to have a new king. Why not let it stays like that and stop bringing your dolt comparison.

But Ooni and Alaafin know their places in regards to Yoruba culture and kingship. Not only Osun people will argue that but other state like Ekiti, Ondo Ogun will always align with Ooni over any supremacy battle

Yes sir. We in the North regards the Sultan as number 1 in the North. The Ooni as number 1 in the SW, and the the Oba of Benin as number 1 in the SS/SE.

If you go to Benin Republic, Togo, Ghana. They rever the Ooni more too. I do business in those places.

Alaafin is truly the no1

It was Awolowo who started promoting Ooni because of his quarrel with the Oyo Kingdom. People should read about the paramount position of Alaafin in Yorubaland

I'm not sure about the Abore part sha
Two olodos. The two of you have some missing screws in your heads. Was Awolowo born in 1903 when the british colonial master of that era called out to the Ooni and the Alaafin even had to sleep outside his palace out of respect for the Ooni?

Don't let your hatred for Oba Ogunwusi consume you. Soldier go, soldier come, but barrack go remain.

You are right sir. Something about the Oyos is that they are too egocentric. The Oyo empire they still referring is gone forever just like the British empire, Roman empire et al, somebody needs to educate them that they should stop fighting a lost battle grin

Exactly, Ife was a kingdom and was trading as far as Mali in the 12th century. Ife became less powerful, and kingdom of Benin rose to take it's place. Benin too declined at some point.
Oyo Empire too rose up and also declined. Ibadan rose up and also declined. If we were still in the era of empire building before the British arrived, the Ijebu were already positioning themselves as next in line.

The original Oyo, called Oyo-Ile (or Katunga) was on the border of present day Kwara and Oyo state. After taking over Ilorin, It was us the Fulanis that destroyed the original Oyo and made the Alaafin move further to the south where it currently lies. We Fulanis, even respect the Ibadan more. The Ibadan made up of Yoruba soldiers from all parts of yorubaland and founded by an Ife prince/warrior was those that stopped our expansionism to the South at Oshogbo.

I don't care about all this their supremacy battles. I just stand for the truth. I visited a place in Togo called Atakpame. I swear, they were asking me how the Kabiyosee Ooni was doing that he was their king when their ancestors left ife many centuries ago. I told them that I was not from the South but Northern Nigeria.

Kingdoms and empires come and go. No need for supremacy battles. Like you rightly said, at some point, it was the Roman's ruling most of the world we knew back then, then the turks (ottoman), then the British. It is now America. The Chinese may come after the US as the next super power.

You paid posters need to stop this disrespect. Stop driving unnecessary agenda. Each king is very aware of their domain. Yorubas have totally independent kingdoms with different kings throughout history.

Stop fanning embers of stupid controversies. When you win American football or baseball championship in America, you are called world champions. That is their own thing, feel free to do yours. This endless controversy did not lead anywhere when it was very hot between Oba Adeyemi III and Oba Sijuwade. Stop with this stupidity.

Each of the kingdoms interpret their history in different ways and you can't force yourself on the other.

Live and let live.

The same applies to Ife. They are all distinct kingdoms and this supremacy fantasy is a mirage. It does not exist. Ife never ever had any authority over Oyo, Ijebu, Iwo etc. Let each king face his domain and stop with long dead fantasies, egocentrism and delusions.

I also love the truth. Empire goes and another one comes but Oyo people don't want t know that. I was reading one historian book some years back and they they mention about 5 empires that first rule this world. I was so surprised to see Ife empire and Egypt Empire among those empire.

Yes you are right, if not for the white who came earlier, we should have had Ijebu empire after the fall of Oyo empire, because the Ijebus were so powerful then and they were never under Oyo empire. Infact the current Oyo town now is the fourth Oyo, they were ransacked from the previous three but most people don't know this

Yes places outside Nigeria then then one will know who Ooni is really is. There is a village I think in US called ile- Ife . Infact after the the coronation of this present Ooni, when he visited Canada, I watched it on my TV here and he was regarded as African foremost traditional ruler, infact he spoke at the Canadian parliamentary, that's a sign of how respected he is

He never said ife had any supremacy over other kingdoms though. The Ijebu had never lost any battle since they were known aside the fight they had with the british . They would surely not bow to anyone. The people that are even most independent are the Egbas, they would never bow to no one too aside their own kings.

Focus on educating your own people. Yoruba kingdoms are already defined & we can't reinvent the wheel.

Some people are actually paid to keep driving the disunity. We all know there is no consensus on this issue as witnessed under the past kings, why all the back and forth.

Both sides were cautioned by people on this thread and no one was singled out. Read through again if you missed that.
