Emergency can happen anytime even with best preparation. Maybe she became unconscious at home and he rushed her to the closest clinic. I pray you are never in these situation to see the horror of healthcare in Nigeria. I lost tree sisters to sickle cell and one died because of negligence and asking family to be doing the work the clinics should be doing even when you have money to pay. The system needs reform. I even banning for profit primary healthcare facilities. That way the heartless and greedy ones will leave the professional. Medicines is a noble profession, not for rif rafs and chalatans. If the clinic had treated her and did a go fund me, they will recoup 100X what she owned. That $350, even me as a stranger would have paid it on her behalf. Not everyone places money over human life thankfully.
Lol go fundme . 10k they wouldn't have seen . You only saying this because this woman died. If she had survived they could have even fought the hospital coz of bill. It's sad the woman died. But private hospitals are for profit .they have workers to pay

be talking like deranged spiritualist there. There should be health insurance for uncovered citizens in emergency.
We are fond of misusing the idea of intervention or emergency in Nigeria. They are for cases like these where the couple can't easily replace what is at stake - life.
This case is sad and leaves a lot of answered questions.
Was the woman booked and ed for antenatal care anyway? In pregnancy, women attend antenatal clinics where problems can be identified and referrals made to appropriate healthcare facilities. Why did he prefer to take his wife to a private clinic instead of a government facility where there are programmes that offer free treatments to indigent pregnant women?
The need for governments at all levels to key into universal health coverage cannot be overemphasized. This is a package we can demand from politicians before electing them into offices instead of collecting N5,000 & packages of food.

➜How old are you sef? 12? You clearly haven't lived life to know emergency happens. They didnt even have to treat her, just stabilize her and arrange her transport to a general hospital. If your soul is dead to the point you have no mercy for a pregnant woman then too bad for you and a calamity for anyone that call you a life partner/spouse.
Again, Stop rambling, thinking you are getting somewhere. undecided

That emergencies can happen at any time is not a good enough reason not to be prepared for one. undecided

Only a foolish person will go to war without weapons.
How can one expect a pregnancy to without a major event. The likelihood of having a child vaginally/through CS is 50/50.
You have to plan the moment the lady becomes pregnant.
If that man had offered N300k out of N500k at least that the hospital would not have turned them away.
They could have started shopping around hospitals to know the cost for CS and taken the cheapest option.
I have kids - immediately my husband and I find out that I am pregnant we start putting funds together because anything can happen.
Which war? Less than 15% of births involve complications globally - whatever the figures are, people's reference is people around them. Someone who isn't much educated who's always seen women around him give birth without an issue will grow up expecting that. Have you been to our villages where people give birth at home without ever having taken a pill?

Yeah, shop around. But what good would that have done them if they just can't find 500k or the money to RELOCATE near a general hospital (cheapest option) - since we're judging everyone by your standards?

Why didn’t they go to the antenatal hospital they use or ed at?
the same hospital my wife had my first child when she was to have my second child which turned out cs , the doc demanded payment before operation and we had already done part payment during antenatal

i saw this heartbreaking video on twitter today.. mehn naija is a horrible country but u won't blame the hospital.. they must have gotten their finger bitten before that made them harden their heart. Must u go to private hospital? There are even local yoruba women that give birth to babies for low income families. For them to request initial 500k deposit means its an expensive hospital. didn't she go for ante-natal? what happen to the hospital she was using all these while?
u didn't speak well at all, I guess u are robot

Go fund me works when it reaches the right audience. One of the reason it doesn't work well in Nigeria is because of all the scammers which is why I rail on them for the hardship tax they place on their fellow citizens.

Well, that's all some people have. Actually, he probably wasn't told to expect complications and then he started hoping for a miracle. He probably thought things would go well like it has always been for every woman in his family. Until he got unlucky.

I've not seen that thread but it's not realistic - some people can't find that money. But I know people on SM don't live in the real world.

Would you, ma, a law that anyone that can't find 2.5 mil should be barred from having kids?
I will it fully.

A patient told me last year that she spends 81k month on infant formula alone. I cannot afford that for any ONE child right now and I am a doctor, not to talk of average family.

I saw a patient who delivered a baby 2 weeks ago and diagnosed her with heart failure today. I had to tell her that the medicines she needs to take to feel better cannot be given while breastfeeding and will dry up her breast milk supply. She also gave my boss a dirty look when she was advised to stop childbearing after this child as it is risky and may kill her.

I have seen things that made me think from wanting 4 children 8 years ago to just needing 1 or 2 today.

I have seen Nigerians take advantage of healthworkers' comion and I've been a victim many times.

Too many men, women and children have died for cheap reasons.

I want to see what will happen to the wolves in this country when the sheep stop reproducing.

May nigeria never happen to us

A heartbreaking tragedy has sparked outrage online after a Nigerian man shared the devastating story of how he lost his pregnant wife and unborn child due to alleged medical negligence and the demand for an upfront payment before treatment. In two emotional clips making rounds on social media, the grieving husband is seen cradling his lifeless wife while recounting the harrowing experience.
According to him, they rushed to a private hospital in urgent need of care, but were turned away because they couldn’t immediately pay a ₦500,000 deposit.

Despite his pleas for the hospital to begin treatment while he sourced for funds, they allegedly refused and referred them to a general hospital far away in Epe, Lagos.Sadly, his wife ed away before they could reach the second facility.“They watched her die,” the husband said tearfully. “I begged them, but they drove us out like they didn’t care. How can life be so cheap?”The incident has triggered widespread anger on social media, with many calling for urgent reforms in the healthcare system and stronger regulations on emergency care. Nigerians are demanding ability and justice as they question how a medical institution could allegedly prioritize money over saving lives.

Wicked people everywhere. What happens to the Oath they swore, to always protect lives? They chose money over mother and unborn child lives! The wickedness of some politicians we condemn is nothing compared to some people with little power. What goes around will definitely visit (come) around for them
Where is it contained in the oath that they should be treating people for free?

If there's a law to punish hospitals for rejecting emergency patients before payment, there should also be a law to pay the hospital in case the emergency patient refuses to pay, or is unable to pay after treatment.

Don't blame the hospital. Don't blame the patient.
Blame the people ruling you. Blame the poor health insurance coverage.

Edit: for those saying 9 months is enough to prepare, emergency can happen anywhere at anytime and you may not be close to your own main hospital where you ed. The stupidity of Nigerians is that they can't see that what happened to this man can happen to you or anyone close to you. Imagine having millions in your but you suddenly go unconscious somewhere far away from home, na so so hospitals go dey reject you until you die (God forbid) because they can't access your . But that's the reality of the system. You think it can't be you or someone close until it happens.

Let's collectively speak up for change now.
Why will they blame people ruling them?

My wife ed for NHIS as a private citizen with just 15k.she has done 4 CS surgery without paying kobo.

Government has really done their part!

I thought they ed a law against this deposit before attending to emergencies?

Pregnancy can go either way in seconds.
One has to be very alert and close to a trusted hospital.

If you can't afford medical deposit, you go to Government hospital or you kpai. It's simple.

pickmeshas never learn.them no get money for condoms or family planning yet their genitals are more hardworking than their brains

That man and his wife are part of the problems of nigeria. Let's even leave tilubu out of this. You don't have a stable source of income, you bring children into poverty and illiteracy and then when
they grow up and hunger wan finish the kids, they'll go and look for who to Rob at oshodi Bridge or who to snatch him phone.no wonder psychopaths, grapists and dysfunctional people from poor homes no dey ever finish.if you listen to alhaji oriyomi on kokoro alate and hear women talking about their stories and you still give a broke man to you womb, you're a fool

Anytime I'm driving in traffic and I see little boys as young as 9 or 10 years washing windscreens of cars trapped in traffic,I feel anger and disgust for the parents. Producing children you have no resources or plans to take care of and leaving/exposing them to roam and search for food on the streets in this era of kidnappers, ritualists and wicked peopleeverywhere. Those parents are more evil than bokoharam and all the African leaders put together.how do you have the wicked heart to watch you kids cry of hunger and beg strangers on the streets for money but you're still having constant unprotected sex and Bringing more children into the world to suffer and be a danger to the society

health staff are detached. They need to be to do what they do. They need cold logic to make those necessary decisions.

Nobody derives joy from a mortality, it's extra paperwork and answering questions nobody wants to answer in front of bosses like viva wxam. Then there is trauma of it.

I have witnessed 5 deaths in the last 2 weeks, the latest was yesterday. At one point you get numb

Yes, comion is good, but many health staff have been victims of comion on the wrong nigerian patient and have found that following protocol will avoid trouble.

As much as they would want to defend the commercial aspect of their business, their primary business should be saving lives. Human lives should mean something to them.
Its the saving lives that will put food in their family table and pay their bills?

Why are eateries not giving foods for free to prevent people from dying of hunger??..is their primary business not to save people from dying of hunger

Same thing happened to me. angry private hospital are wicked. Hospital I had my first child , after the delivery I bought minerals for all the staffs even the owner of the clinic. I even brought food for the staffs during our naming. Fast forward to having my second child , we had already done deposit during antenatal, so when my wife wanted to deliver the doctor suggested she do cs . Could you imagine this nonsense woman was telling me to make transfer first before they start anything. I was mad. At that point I was trying to sell some funds from my PayPal which delayed but I ended up selling and transferring to the useless doctor. Before they started attending to my wife. My wife was just crying in her condition. That day I hated that doctor . A woman for that matter

Ask a woman - ask your wife if she thinks that delivery is not going to war, is not laying down her life.
Why do women call their churches and mosques and ask them to start praying for them as they go to deliver if the real expectation is that it should be that simple.
Only a woman will tell you the thoughts that run through her mind before delivery.
It might be low globally but do not lump it because the developed countries make the numbers look good.
In Nigeria it is a 50/50 chance. In developed countries the risk of dying in childbirth is 1:4900. In Nigeria it is 1:22.
Nigeria has the 3rd highest maternal mortality in Africa.

I know, I just gave that option. Nigerians hate doctors for no reason. They would neglect their health or mismanaged it through quacks, self care or negligence and expect a miracle and free service when they get to hospital.
People don't know how bad Nigeria has become. The cost of healthcare has skyrocketed.
The 500k deposit the hospital asked for is very very fair. That woman definitely had preeclampsia/eclampsia and may not have been regular in antenatal.

I believe there is an ample time for everyone or family to prepare for pregnancy.

Besides a wise person should have a set aside hospital closer in the time of delivery.

Be it government or private. This should be known as test are been done during the 9 months.

This
Death is
Avoidable though
The hospital should have allowed for a partial payment though.

My 2 cents
you are wise. Exactly my thoughts too
