Point noted.

If Eric is to succeed he needs to avoid the mistakes of his predecessors of leaving yourself lightly manned in different departments of his squad invites i.e. not inviting enough defenders or right profile of player for midfield or attack.

Like the attack why call up 4 tall target men in Victor, Tolu, Boniface (to some extent), and Sadiq when you freshen things up with guys who rely on movement and pace or even 18-yard box specialists.

Mujtahida:

Beautiful post. I agree with all you said especially the bolded. But the essential point is that Peseiro was pragmatic to adopt a strategy that got us as far as the finals but like you pointed out, he too became stuck to the system and the personnel.

A coach must be flexible. Chelle should know when to tweak his formation and at this point I don't believe we have to play the same first eleven in every match. The guys who played against Rwanda were tired. We should have maybe started with Iwobi and Onyedika in midfield.

Do you know that Chelle invited only two wing forwards?

I hear what you say it's about the flexibility for me. Had we converted all our numerous chances against Equitorial Guinea last AFCON and beat them with a wide scoreline maybe JP would have stuck with that particular formation.

Yes player profile matters but I think against the lesser opposition we should be dominating with overwhelming attacking threat that by the time you hammer them 3-4 goals it wouldn't matter if they get the odd goal. Except for the madness that was the Sierra Leone game under Rohr

Nigeria against African opponents hardly concede more than 1-2 goals which to me is more of a attack than defense issue.

The Zimbabwe game yes the away team had their chances but we at least had about 5-6 chances on target. If we had a conversion rate of even just 50% it wouldn't have mattered if Zimbabwe got the odd goal.

We should be dominating against lesser opposition you say but we aren’t cos we think we have the personnel but we don’t in reality. The way the Zimbabweans were even so comfortable knocking the ball around as if they were the home side says a lot about the profile of our team. If we are honest we don’t have more than 3 excellent players, most are just average at best. Though 3 excellent players in a team can be enough to get decent results but once one or two are marked out it becomes more difficult.

Cameroon don't have the same level of players but for arguments sake let's say we're even at par with them yet they beat Libya 3-1 same Libya we scrapped through with a scrappy 1-0 win.

Why Ndidi in such an advance role? We need someone with more creativity in that role if we are to play such formation. Although Fisayo Dele-Bashiru is the only name that comes to mind.

All 3 CBs picked here are good in 3 A-T-B.

Ndidi in that advanced role will fail woefully. Put Christantus Uche and this formation (plus personnel selected) could win us an Afcon and possibly win the remaining WCQs fixtures.

Chelle should stop kidding and invite Uche. Dump Ndidi to the bench.

Uche >>>> FDB.

FDB ko. FDB and creativity don't go together. He is not a creator. He is a shooter and late runner into the box.

The Truth must be told.Iwobi may be the only creative player this generation of eagle have.Kelechi can also play the role of attacking midfield hence he should recalled back to the squad.Uche no doubt can play the advanced role but then again he is very slow on ball movement and doesn't not have the required experience for a tournament like Afcon.

Eric Chelle is in London to meet Arsenal Whiz Kid, Ethan Nwaneri to convince him to commit his future by dorning the green white green.

Eric Chelle has plans to meet other players to beef up the SE squad.

we have missed our chance once he started performing in a top club like Arsenal.
It should have been done earlier like the case of Iwobi.
If they could not convince Eze and Olise of crystal palace,it's an Arsenal player with a huge prospect they would?
we never had a chance, why do you think Arsenal gave him his EPL debut at 15? He has always been highly rated

I cannot agree less, Ndidi is only good for 2nd half to see off already won matches.

Fisayo has the one touch ing play that gives him more leverage to play in that position. Coupled with his off the ball movement to space.

Either way, I have really watched Uche properly but will check his play out.

FDB can be wonderful when it comes to recycling possession in very advanced areas of the pitch.
And he can be very tricky with his shooting.

However he doesn't create much, and doesn't defend much.
Accommodating him will bring about changes in midfield personnel.
We will struggle to win midfield duels if paired alongside Iwobi, so the both shouldn't start in midfield.

Playing FDB in a midfield that has Frank Onyeka and Kelechi Nwakali, or Kelechi Nwakali and Uche Christantus will be very good.
