Lagos, Nigeria – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed into law the South-West Development Commission Bill, the South-South Development Commission Bill, and the Nigeria Anti-Doping Bill, 2025, marking a significant step in his istration’s push for regional development and governance reforms.

The announcement was made on Tuesday by Senator Basheer Lado, Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, who described the move as a reflection of Tinubu’s commitment to inclusive governance and national progress.

“This is not just about policy implementation; it is about creating a lasting impact and ensuring equitable development across all regions of Nigeria,” Lado said in a statement.

Regional Growth and Economic Expansion

The new commissions, modeled after the existing Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and the recently approved South-East Development Commission, are expected to drive economic growth, infrastructure development, and job creation in their respective regions.

Lado emphasized that the establishment of the commissions underscores Tinubu’s broader vision for regional empowerment and infrastructural excellence.

“The president’s approval of these commissions demonstrates his deliberate effort to foster industrial growth, expand job opportunities, and improve social progress across Nigeria,” he said.

The g of the bills follows Tinubu’s earlier approval of the South-East Development Commission, reinforcing his istration’s strategy to ensure targeted development initiatives reach all parts of the country.

A Nationwide Approach to Development

The commissions are set to play a critical role in addressing long-standing infrastructural challenges in the South-West and South-South regions, which are key economic hubs in Nigeria.

“This is about ensuring that every region benefits from the istration’s forward-thinking policies,” Lado added.

While details on the implementation timeline remain unclear, government officials say the move signals a shift toward a more decentralized approach to economic and social development in Nigeria.

What that nonsense Ironsi destroyed by arrogating all the power to central by killing regional governments thinking his people would continue to dominate the country forever, Tinubu is stylishly restoring it. Those Development Commissions are your future regional governments. You heard it here first. Then everyone will be reminded his way back to his/her father's NON-SMELLING house.

Hope u understand what the development commission is all about? So everything is looting to Nigeria youth.

Anyway it's simple, every zone should go and massively develop Thier zones with industrialisation and if it's about looting, it will help us know which zone can loot while others keep moving forward.

I hope that from development they can be strategically integrated and strategically placed into Regional istration and Governance within our own democratic framework.

We must do what works for us within the peculiarities of our own cultures, norms, ways of life, risks and opportunities.

Small small they should consider

-Decentralize power and funding- Grant commissions significant autonomy and financial resources to address regional needs.

-Set clear, measurable goals for them. Like in companies they must have Establish Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) aligned with the our own home grown sustainable development goals or that of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and so on. Let us see the development and be able to measure their performance.

-Regional Development Master Plans. Plan PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT! Nigeria is too scatter scatter ! No order the way houses and streets are! No common sense and rational delineation of streets, alleys, major roads, minor roads, etc. Development not controlled leads to Chaos. Nigeria does not know that to get beautiful cities like overseas there are strict development control enforcement which ensures that the intended State Physical Development Plans are followed. There needs to be a Regional Plan, that births State Master Plans, that birth Local Government Master Plans, that births Community Master Plans that births Area/Residential Master Plans.

- Foster public-private partnership by Encouraging collaborations between commissions, businesses, and civil society to leverage expertise, resources, and funding.

-Investment or investing in human capital-Develop programs for education, skills training, and healthcare to create a highly skilled and healthy workforce.

-Promote innovation and entrepreneurship by establishing innovation hubs, incubators, and accelerators to start-ups and MSMEs. This should be structured. This should not be scattered and in the messy way we have today. There must be a way to ensure that viable innovation gets incubated, developed and grows into producing the solution as a form of value/utility and for cash flow.

- Ensure transparency and ability through severe, immediate and exacting consequences! Kill who ever steals public funds. because IF they steal the money then we have just wasted our time. There is a need to Implement robust monitoring and evaluation frameworks to track progress, identify challenges, and adapt strategies.

-Leverage technology and data-driven decision-making- All those fake “THOSE IN FAVOUR SAY I AND THOSE NOT IN FAVOUR SAY NAY is nonsense that can be easily solved by technology. Utilize data analytics, digital platforms, and emerging technologies to enhance decision-making, service delivery, and citizen engagement.

-Foster regional cooperation and knowledge sharing: Encourage collaboration among commissions to share best practices, expertise, and resources.

These Commissions must be made to work and come up with strategies that can drive sustainable growth, reduce inequality, and make Nigerians proud at the International Level. Otherwise dem go still treat us like shit.

What is the difference between the SSDC and the NDDC since all the SSDC states are part of the NDDC? Won’t there be duplication of roles?
