That's averagely 1 doctor per at least 10,000 would be patients...!

Many more have already packed their bags to leave to other nations as we are typing here.

This is shocking, scary, and hideously disgraceful!

Dr. Chris Ngige, the Okija shrine former Anambra governor has a different perspective.

Nollyzonenews:
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, says doctors who feel they want to relocate in search of greener pastures are free to do so as the nation has enough medical personnel.

Ngige said this on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Wednesday.
The minister was responding to a question on brain drain and the deliberate recruitment of Nigerian doctors by foreign embassies in Nigeria to the detriment of the nation’s health sector.

In his response, however, Ngige, who is also a medical doctor, said there was nothing wrong with doctors leaving the country as they would continue to send foreign exchange home which could, in turn, grow the economy.

He said, “No, I am not worried (about doctors leaving the country). We have surplus. If you have surplus, you export. It happened some years ago here. I was taught chemistry and biology by Indian teachers in my secondary school days.

Please 🙏 is it much easier to japa as a nurse than a doctor?
Educate me please I need to know.
I appreciate in anticipation

Nurses are labourers. They do caregivers (menial job). You don't expect a doctor or a pharmacist would be needed for a more professional needs. How ever medicine, pharmacy and Nursing has equal chances.

Look at the number of doctors in Northern states, I can deduce that South is more populated than North if a proper census is done

I think it has to do with the more cosmopolitan the state is. Especially the state capitals. Bigger, more developed cities obviously have more doctors.

Going by the figures posted up there, the number of all practicing medical doctors in Nigeria are less than 45,000 in total. And we have a population of over 200 million people.

.. this is approximately a ratio of 1 doctor per 5,000 Nigerians. LoLz! grin grin grin

The figures are terrible. It should even be worse by now, since this is 2022 data

No he is not ,you cannot know more than the Minister of labour at that time who was also a Dr.... Nigeria does not have enough hospitals private and public to retain its doctors.

There are more unemployed Drs than those that are employed. And it's worst for the specialists... Imagine finishing your specialization 6 years later only to find yourself unemployed and broke with no prospects literarily and a family to feed.. What should you do next please.....

The real discussion is we don't have enough hospitals to hire our Drs,till you all address that, bandying silly figures around mean nothing

His statement helped many doctors make up their mind to leave.

I know many newly graduated doctors that are already preparing for USMLE. Those chaps aren't planning to do NYSC oh. Their eyes are already outside Nigeria.

The manpower crisis gets worse by the day

Yet the useless Nigeria University Commission, and university authorities will be frustrating young school leavers trying to secure ission to study medicine in our universities.

They do same to nursing.

Honestly, black nations are not supposed to exist on earth, they are supposed to be recolonized forever because they don't deserve to run a nation angry

The political will to employ more doctors is not there, especially for federal teaching hospitals and FMCs. I don't think it's just a problem of capacity.

Many hospitals now have far fewer resident doctors and medical officers than they had years ago. What is stopping the management from employing new ones?

Many CMDs have turned to politicians, instead of s.

They've seen they can use five people to do the work of twenty people and so they don't care

Lol, whenever I see yorubas bragging with Oyo state and how much population they have, I laugh. Enugu has more doctors than all the states in SW! Don't mention Lagos because I bet you, there are likely more Igbo doctors in Lagos than yoruba doctors.

Taraba has only 200 doctors for an entire state with population that is more than some countries! Ratio of doctor to population there would be so abysmal.

Whenever it comes to progressive factors, you see Igbos topping the charts but the same dullards carrying last will take up positions ruling the country. No wonder why they've completely ruined the country because you obviously can't give what you don't have.

Go back to the 1960's and you will see Igbos were still topping back then!

The slowpoke doesn’t know that, from his political ignorance is born the prostitute, the abandoned child, and the worst thieves of all, the bad politician, corrupted and flunky of the national and multinational companies.”
