The Former President Goodluck Jonathan has strongly condemned the actions of President Bola Tinubu in Rivers State, labeling them a “clear abuse of power.” Jonathan made this remark at the 2025 Annual Colloquium on Promoting Social Change and Development, where he addressed various issues affecting Nigeria’s political landscape.

In his speech, Jonathan emphasized the need for Nigerians to remain vigilant and actively push for the right course of action in governance. He stressed that the country’s progress depends on the collective will of its people to uphold democratic values and ability.

“Leadership is about serving the people with integrity, not using power for personal or political gain. The current actions in Rivers State are a clear abuse of power and a deviation from the principles that should guide our democracy,” Jonathan said.

The former president did not provide specific details about the alleged actions in Rivers State but reiterated the importance of transparency, good governance, and public trust in the nation’s leadership.

Jonathan’s comments come at a time of heightened political tensions in Rivers State, where the relationship between the state government and the federal government has been strained in recent months. The former president called on Nigerians to insist on doing the right thing and to hold their leaders able.

“The people of Nigeria must not allow any government to undermine the rights and freedoms that we have fought so hard to secure. We must demand that our leaders act in the best interest of the country,” Jonathan added.

His remarks are expected to spark further debate and reflection on the state of Nigeria’s democracy and the actions of the current istration.

As Nigeria continues to navigate its political challenges, Jonathan’s call for responsible leadership and citizens’ engagement in holding government able is a timely reminder of the importance of social change and development.

In as much as I condemn Tinubu actions but I love his balls, if Jonathan had the balls Tinubu have, Nigeria wouldn’t have gotten it wrong to this point…

Having balls makes a good leader, there are fights that warrants blood to be spilled for the future to be better, don’t save lives today in order to die tomorrow

Yes not relinquishing power and contesting the outcome of the election meant war, it’s better to spill blood and get it right than taking the entire future generations into slavery..,,

If Tinubu had the good intentions Jonathan had I don’t think Nigeria will be in this mess she’s today, a leader without balls is a lesbian

I watched the video some hours ago and I was very disappointed at GEJ.I love GEJ,put the comments were not necessary. He implied that the president,NASS,and Judiciary are to blame for the current crisis in Rivers state and i think it was a very reckless statement from a former president. The governor and those ing him are political tiros and this cost the governor dearly. From the first day 27 lawmakers announced they were defecting, the governor ers were all over arise tv and other media houses that the lawmakers have lost their seats and this gave the Wike camp time to prepare a response to this challenge and they took a route that was successful.

I am not really a fan of our Judiciary, but please on this current crisis in Rivers, the Judiciary doesn't have any blame.PGEJ said the Judiciary should have done the right thing. What was wrong with the Judgement from the supreme Court? should supreme Court say 3 lawmakers can form a quorum to carry out legislative function in a 31 house? The only thing that i agree was the governor and legislature shouldn't have been suspended by the proclamation of SOE by PBAT.I have come to the conclusion that GEJ,and Bayelsa PDP structure led by Sen Seriake are ing Fubara because he is Ijaw.PGEJ himself with his greed, contributed to the problem of PDP,if he had quietly honored the single term agreement OBJ helped him broker, the PDP would have been united in 2015 around a Northern candidate and he would have won the election.
Wolexyoshi(m): 8:25pm On Mar 22
In the statement "abuse of power", what if GEJ is referring to Fubara? Because, as far as the matter is concerned, the President acted as necessary and his action saved Fubara from impeachment by the State House of Assembly.
