PRESS RELEASE:

MURIC SLAMS ADELEKE UNIVERSITY FOR DISRUPTING FASTING

An Islamic human rights organization, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), has alleged that Adeleke University, Ede, Osun State, has been disrupting Ramadan activities of its Muslim students. The organization also accused the tertiary institution of forcing Muslim students to attend church programmes.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday, 20th March, 2025 by the Executive Director of MURIC, Professor Ishaq Akintola.

He said:

“The headquarters of the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has received several complaints of attempts to tactically de-Islamise and forcefully christianise Muslim students in Adeleke University, Ede.

“The methods adopted by the university to achieve this objective include compelling attendance of all students (including the Muslims among them) at the university’s church programmes. The supererogatory prayer held in Ramadan evenings (tarawih) was reportedly disrupted two days ago and the students were warned never to try it again.

“These are signs of religious intolerance. We have said it times without number that Christians in the South weaponize education to convert Muslims. As far back as year 2019, MURIC leveled serious allegation of religious persecution against Adeleke University. We also asked the National Universities Commission (NUC) to investigate the allegation.

“We said, ‘Adeleke University is a serial violator of Allah-given fundamental rights of Muslim students. This institution forces Muslim students to attend church on Sundays. It makes it mandatory for students living in the hostel to attend church every Wednesday and Saturday.

“We continued, ‘The practice of any other faith on campus except Christianity is banned. Muslim students must not be seen observing Salat. Hijab is a taboo in Adeleke University. Yet all these Islamophobic practices are smartly hidden from prospective students of the institution until they have paid the exorbitant school fees and can no longer withdraw.’

“‘In particular, we invite NUC to take a look at the students’ handbook of this institution, especially pages 7, 49, 50, 56 and 60. These pages, to our mind, contain rules that infringe on the religious freedom of Muslim students. As a regulating body, NUC has a duty to intervene in this matter as part of its oversight function on Nigeria’s universities’, our 2019 statement added (https://dailypost.ng/2019/06/18/adeleke-university-accused-forcing-muslims-attend-church/).

“We are deeply worried that five years down the line, Adeleke University continues to victimize, stereotype and traumatize Muslim students. Though not all, other private universities in the South are also neck deep into these obnoxious and ignoble practices and MURIC has cried out against them before.

“In other climes, mere exposure of this kind of inhuman and denigrating treatment in the media is enough to spur the relevant agencies to action. Why is that of Nigeria different? What are the public affairs of those agencies doing? What is NUC waiting for? This issue is already in the public domain and NUC is part of this larger society. The Muslim parents who reported are taxpayers. They want this investigated.

“We remind Muslim parents and Muslim students of our warning issued in 2022 asking them to avoid Christian private universities (https://www.ripplesnigeria.com/muric-warns-muslims-to-avoid-christian-owned-private-universities/).

“We are aware that Christian private universities deceive Muslim students into committing themselves to their institutions by hiding their religious prejudices until the Muslim students pay school fees and are fully ed. This is an area in which oversight authorities should show interest. Private universities must manifest transparency and this should begin from showing their religious inclination.”

Why are Muslims sending their children to Christian private universities. You know full well that this institution is purely a Christian institution yet you will enroll and then try to start practicing a different religion on campus. Can anyone do that in the North? Even preaching alone on the streets in the North has gotten people killed before in this same country.
It will never be well with Lugard wherever he is in hell

This is the fourth time this Muric alarmist will be complaining about Adeleke university.
These complaints started when the current governor decided to contest for Osun governorship election.

He usually raise the issue when election is in the corner.
So expect more alarms in the coming months.

Send your children there, stop looking for unnecessary attention.

......and you are still taking your children to the same university even after 5yrs,what stops muslims from building Muslim universities and stop wailing. You rather send a whole community to hajj,or organize weddings for hundreds of people or build mosque allover the places rather than investing in education.

Lots of federal universities in the north don't have a church on campus. The university will not give land to Christians to build church. We only use class rooms. At a point they wanted to ban christians from using class rooms so that we can continue under mango trees. Islam is victimizing more of the Christians. Adeleke is a private university, Is not a must to attend.

A popular Muslim university in Ilorin does more than that to Christians students and they don't complain.
In fact, All students and visitors must cover their heads in the school and CAN or other christian bodies don't talk about it because nobody force them to go there. The man should always use his brain before issuing statement

It’s simple, take your kids out of there, Abi them chain unna down, it’s a private university, whatever he likes he does if it doesn’t sit well with you then you leave, it’s like going to someone house and complaining about the food/ plate you where served with, if it doesn’t sit well with you, you will leave there house and go to yours where you will be satisfied

The above post justified our statement that Islam and Christianity do not share a common interest. One (Islam) preaches peace and tolerance, while the other breeds hatred and violence.

Nothing will change MURIC's view: Christians are bent on blocking the rise of Islam.

Wow! Rise to where? Religion in Africa is a superiority contest and not a spiritual journey, that's why all of you are always fighting each other on behalf of who you worship. I always challenge all religion fundamentalists that have they ever asked why we were created different? Do you think the design was by mistake? So who are you to correct what was well designed and force people to do your bidding?

We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other (not that ye may despise (each other).

Verily the most honoured of you in the sight of Allah is (he who is) the most righteous of you.

A Christian based PRIVATE university that gives all incoming students one RULE BOOK each stating guidelines, rules and regulations that must be strictly adhered, it is clearly written and stated on Google that Adeleke University is a faith based University

No one is forced to go to such religion based University, if you can't cope with their rules, pack your bag and baggages and leave, very simple.

Let me rephrase so you can see how dumb these Muric people are:

“A Christian school that states in its handbook that all students must adhere to its Christian doctrine and practice is forcing muslims students (who signed and agreed) to attend church programs."

When you go to Rome, you behave like the Romans. You can't go to Rome, and try to impose your culture there.

There are lots of islamic universities (albeit with poor standards and rankings), that muslims can attend. This is a dead-on-arrival protest in a sane world. But this is Nigeria, and we have a muslim-muslim leader so expect anything.

Less I forget, Adeleke is a PDP member, while these leaders are APC. So maybe there is a political to the whole brouhaha, I don't know.

And what does it have to do with enforcing Muslims to comply with rules laid down by a Christian university? I thought you said that having Sharia law in the SW has no impact on Christians whatsoever.

Most of these people want POWER and CONTROL, that's it. They hide under RELIGION to hide their hidden desire. Look around the world, that's what you'll see. Whether it's Hindu vs Muslims in India or Chinese Govt vs Uighur Muslims or Muslims vs Christians.

They are afraid of losing control of people's ability to make independent choices to their maker. That's why they need to put you in line if you fall off. The world likes people who behave like them in groups, if you don't do it you become a problem.
