Excerpts: The Question and Answer Session at the t Press Conference of Coalition leaders on the Emergency Rule in Rivers State

Reporter: I have two questions, Your Excellency, some in the ruling Party have made the argument that former President Obasanjo also declared a State of Emergency in Plateau and Ekiti States, and in those two instances the Governors were removed. So they are saying that, there is a precedent so that has given them the impetus to remove or to suspend Governor Fubara, I want to know what you think about that?

Secondly, have you reached out personally to any of the lawmakers whether in the House of Representatives or in the Senate and its two-thirds majority that is needed. The ruling party doesn't have that so have you been meeting behind the scenes?

Atiku: Let me start with that last one, as a coalition of opposition political parties, we have reached out to our in the National Assembly. On the question of the State of Emergencies that occurred during our istration, I will invite Mallam Nasir El-Rufai to interject.

El-Rufai: Ladies and Gentlemen, the two cases referred to occurred in the Obasanjo istration in which both His Excellency, the former Vice President and my humble self were part of. It is true that in those two cases, the Governors were suspended. These cases were challenged in the Court and in 2006, the Supreme Court of Nigeria gave a judgement, even though by then, they had been restored back to office, but lashed the Obasanjo istration and said under no circumstance will the Emergency provisions under Section 305 be used to remove any elected official.

The issue here is that Jagaban is always 100 steps of his mates.

Meanwhile, for people saying Jagaban needs 2/3 of the National assembly to suspend Fubara, I think this is a joke taken too far.

If Fubara can present his budget to 4 assemblies , what is wrong in President Tinubu getting 10 assemblies too?

How I wish Tinubu can as well follow the footsteps of Fubara and demolish both the assemblies complexes, denied both the senate and Rep from sitting down and start building a new complex maybe in May and still go on live broadcast and brag without him being the president there won't be senators and representatives.

Then start saying how many of them come to his house to eat on Christmas day, then seize their allocations.

On the Court Judgement, the SC didn't delve into the merits of the matter.

However, the President was wrong and ill-advised on the removal of elected officials. Worse still to even vest the authority of making laws on FEC, rather than the NASS is another aberration.

Fagbemi isn't helping this President at all.

So Tinubu should fold his arms allowing the governor and assembly turning a whole state into a banana republic? Then later blame the same president of not been proactive?

A sitting governor saying he will tell his boys when to enter? They are blowing the pipelines already. The level of indiscipline Baba Buhari tolerated so people won't call him dictator won't repeat itself.

Obaseki committed alot of atrocities because Baba Buhari looked away, denied of assemblies their constitutional rights to serve their people and he got away with it.

Now the Presidency have checked Gov. Fubara and also clip the wings of Gov. Adeleke, I think any governors trying to turn lord over state assemblies or local government chairmen will have a rethink.

Even the clueless fPresident Jonathan did so but without suspending the Governors.

Who is Wike the the President is siding? What agreement did the President enter into with the man who loves to betray?

Wike fought Peter Odili, fought Ameachi and even the then President Buhari, Wike is currently fighting the present Governor of the State!

I love Tinubu, i voted for him and will still vote for him in 2027, but, on this matter between Wike and Fubara, i will ask, why is he taking side with Wike?

Them get agreement wey we no know? Or Is this about 2027?

I love how many of Tinubu ers from HELL are leading Tinubu and Wike to their graves.

Just like Daniel Kanu led Abacha to grave, I just pray that they will never rest until they and their friends fulfill this assignment in Jesus name..

Amen.

Tinubu doesn’t have intelligent people around him.

He has surrounded himself with cocaine sniffers.

I’ve asked the question before, does the fact that Obasanjo did it during his tenure justify Tinubu doing it now?

And this is someone they tout as a fighter for democracy.

I hope the NASS embarasses him.

indeed. but in 2013, the same tinubu opposed the declaration of SOE by JOnathan in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa due to the insecurity.

how come he is now ahead of his mates when he is good at doing the same thing he criticises others for doing?

Don't mind the hypocrites jumping around as if he can change the executive order.

Fubara was elected by the people of Rivers State to serve them.

The House of Assemblies were also elected by their people to represent their constituency, so how come Fubara has power to go and demolish their own complex, denied them the right to serve their people they're representing and some people are fighting and defending such a heartless governor.

Let see who will change the presidency order.

That was a first case scenario and a learning point for our democracy and judiciary not after we have known the proper thing to now intentionally repeat the wrong thing under tinubu istration.

If we are sure that OBJ's decision was wrong, why should we say it's ok for someone else to also do the same simply because some people didn't talk at the time.

That's exactly how anarchy is unleashed.
