Like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi has thrown his behind Ushie Rita Uguamaye, also known as Raye, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member who recently came under fire for criticizing the current istration, ThisDay Nigeria reports.

In a statement shared on his official X , Obi condemned the alleged threats Raye has faced from NYSC officials, stating that it reflects a worrying trend where “voices of reason and truth are met with intimidation rather than dialogue and engagement.”

Obi noted that such repression is not new, as he himself has faced threats and harassment for expressing views aimed at offering constructive solutions to government policies.

“I now face daily intimidation, harassment, and name-calling simply for expressing solution-based views on government policies,” he stated.

The former Anambra governor stated that silencing dissenting voices goes against democratic principles. “A government that silences its citizens is not democratic or one that is subject to ability and good governance and is most often corrupt,” he remarked.

Obi advised the current istration to embrace criticism as a vital component of democracy, calling on Nigerians not to be intimidated into silence.

“Do not let fear stifle your voice. Stand firm, one another, and continue to advocate for the Nigeria we all envision—a nation where freedom of speech is sacrosanct, and leadership is able to the people, especially in critical areas such as education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation,” he said.

Full statement reads:

The National Youth Corps member, Ushie Rita Uguamaye, also known as Raye, recently had an experience that highlights a troubling trend in our nation—one where voices of reason and truth are met with intimidation rather than dialogue and engagement.

Reports indicate that she has faced threats from NYSC officials simply for expressing her concerns about the current istration.

This pattern is not isolated. I, too, have been subjected to threats for daring to offer constructive suggestions and comments.

I now face daily intimidation, harassment, and name-calling simply for expressing solution-based views on government policies.

Such actions are antithetical to the principles of democracy. A government that silences its citizens is not democratic or one that is subject to ability and good governance and is most often corrupt.

I urge the current istration to reflect deeply on its approach to dissent and recognize that constructive criticism is a cornerstone of democratic progress.

To all patriotic Nigerians: Our nation’s future and development depend on our collective courage to speak out against misgovernance, injustice, and intimidation.

Do not let fear stifle your voice. Stand firm, one another, and continue to advocate for Nigeria we all envision—a nation where freedom of speech is sacrosanct, and leadership is able to the people, especially in critical areas such as education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation.

A just and prosperous Nigeria should be one where people like Raye are encouraged to speak out about the challenges they face, while those in government take urgent action to address these issues.

Peter Obi have always stood on the side of the common man daily struggle in Nigeria since beginning of his political career in 2002 but I have never seen tinubu stand on the side of the masses since the beginning of his career with Abiola SDP in 1992. He had always stood with the oppressing class of deeply corrupt politicians who have sworn that over their dead bodies would Nigeria work… imagine spending 667bn every year on olosho while ordinary people die daily from hunger, diseases, nationwide killings from terrorism etc …. so why would such kind of people who are tinubu crew want a change in Nigeria?

Peter Obi is a clown. How will a corps member be facing threats for speaking against the government? Is it the government that will give her food and shelter or the NYSC? A corps member is not a child. If you want to criticize the government, do it as an adult, not a corps member. That is the problem with Obi. He is always looking for sympathy from people.

This is a false flag. Tinubu should wise up and deal with this situation with wisdom. This is another EndSars unrest arising and the mumudients movement and the zikists are all over it. Exact signature like the 2020 protest.

I trust the NSA and the presidency are capable and will handle things better than the Buhari istration.

But when the NAFDAC officials raised genuine concerns about their safety none of these politicians came out publicly to them and give them any kind of backing.

You will never see them condemn criminal activities, or saying kudos to security agencies when they bust crimes.

But you see them falling over each other to give their for irrelevant things, lies and most times things that directly destroyes the unity and image of Nigeria just to score cheep political points.

I agree with the sentiments of the corps member but I don't condone indiscipline. She must have done orientation and read the NYSC bylaws. Gen Z act without thinking, they think the social media is another universe that exists outside the real world. As a NYSC member, you are a civil servant for one year. That government can use you how they want for one year. If they want to draft you to fight another country, you have no choice as a corps member. For now, Tinubu is your boss as a NYSC member and you do not have the authority to speak on some things while you are still in service. Know this and know peace, this is how you start learning things as an adult. You need to read the rules of the game before playing in it.

Not take part in partisan politics.
Any member who takes part in partisan politics is liable to extension of service for a period not less than three (3) months without pay.

Not address the press on any policy issue without the prior written consent of the State Coordinator.
Any member who addresses the press on any policy issue without the written consent of the State Coordinator shall be tried by the Camp Court and, if found guilty, be liable to extension of service for thirty (30) days on half pay.

Edit: If Peter Obi is the same person who says
If you must be referred to as "Your Excellency", then the process through which you arrived in office Must be excellent. - PO.
He should know too well to not encourage rascality in the system even if we know it's rotten. If you want to show us that you are different from them, don't play politics the same way they did.

Edit 2: I didn't even know this issue was trending on Twitter. I have read some comments of the influencers, including lawyers saying that corps are not civil servants, this and that. God, please pray for counsel as a young person. When it is time for election, please challenge the NYSC for posting you to PU. People have already taken sides because it is politics but two wrongs don't make a right. Let's just that the dog that danced to our whistle today when hunting and we clapped for her can be the bitch that will bite us when we whistled with our mouth.

Lambarino Obi. They think democracy is freedom of saying anything. Democracy is government of the majority, by the majority.
i didn't hear any threats in the video i watched, it was the manipulative girl that ironically asked in a threatening way if she was being threatened. There's order in military and paramilitary institutions.

Very any how man who reacts to every stupid things just to score cheap political points even to the detriment of the entire nation, when NAFDAC uncovered the inhumane activities of his brethren, he suddenly gone deaf and dumb despite their actions putting millions of life's at risk. Weyrey

It's expected for all oppositions to the MUMU girl.

MOST NIGERIANS ARE JUST VERY DÀFT AND HYPOCRITICAL.

To them, every problem is caused by the President.

Apart from a very few governors [DEFINITELY NOT UP TO 10]. The rest are extremely useless and corrupt.
We don't even hear of anything positive or development from some states at all, except bad news like terrorism, kidnapping and other crimes.
Yet, those states governors receives FG allocations and even make money every day.

The only other time we hear any news is probably during election campaigns.

What about ministers?

IN THIS GOVERNMENT,
THE TWO MINISTERS THAT HA HAVE BEEN USEFULL IS JUST

WIKE and That IMMIGRATION-port MINISTER

The rest have been very useless
ESPECIALLY THAT BASTÁRD ADELABU MINISTER OF POWER.

What of state commissioners?

What of local government chairmen and councilors?

Last,
WHAT ABOUT GREEDY NIGERIANS?

>Those farmers
>Those market people
>Those landlords
>Those civil servants
>Those fuel attendants
ETC

Tinubu must go. He needs to go, he has to go for Nigeria to progress for the common good of all Nigerians including that of Tinubu's family .

Tinubu is a terrible leader, a tribal bigot to the highest order, Nigeria of today don't need or deserve an arrogant tribal bigot like Tinubu.

A known treasury looter, who used ill-gotten wealth from shady business deals to venture into politics, and thereafter uses thugs, voodooism and all dangerous means to capture Lagos state for 25 years, and installs his stooges as Governors, HoA , etc can never lead Nigeria to progress. He only comes to steal, to loot, to kill and to destroy.

That is the only thing looters and criminals do, they don't care about the wellbeing of others. He only pretends like he cares but deep down his corrupt greedy heart, he is looking for ways to impoverish Nigerians for his personal luxury and enrichment through taxes and levies angry
