A yet-to-be-identified woman who plunged into Lagos lagoon, off the Third Mainland Bridge, was later recovered dead, ThisDay Nigeria reports.

According to an eyewitness, the incident occurred around 4 p.m. at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) waterfront spot on the bridge.

It was gathered that marine police officers stationed in the area swiftly responded to the emergency and subsequently recovered the body despite rescue efforts.

As of press time, the immediate and remote causes of the incident could not be ascertained, but eyewitnesses attributed it to suicide.

Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the incident on Friday.

He stated that, despite the marine police officers’ efforts to save her, medical personnel from the University of Lagos confirmed her death upon arrival.

Hundeyin confirmed that the deceased’s body has since been evacuated to the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) Mortuary in Yaba for preservation.

“Today, March 13, 2025, at about 1600 hours, an unidentified woman reportedly jumped from the Third Mainland Bridge into the water near the UNILAG waterfront at approximately 1500 hours.

“She was recovered at the University of Lagos shore slipway by a team of marine police officers stationed in the area. Despite their efforts, she was confirmed dead by a team of UNILAG medical doctors in the presence of officers from the Sabo Police Division.”

“Her body has been evacuated to the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) Mortuary in Yaba, Lagos, for preservation.”

Do you know what it takes for someone to take her own life? Only God knows how long she must have been fighting this inward battle with suicide. But trust me when I say "SUICIDE IS NOT THE BEST OPTION". Look at how beautiful she looks outwardly but she was broken down inwardly. May God grant her eternal rest. Just confirmed. The lady in the photo committed suicide 2022. Wrong photo.

That is not the lady.

This is a lady that killed herself same way some years ago.

This happens everyday in that deadly ocean. They're only able to notice this because it happened during the day. A lot more happens at night when there's nobody to come to their rescue. There is supposed to be a round the clock patrol on that bridge day and night because it's always dry and anything can happen in a matter of seconds.

But because our government are only after money instead of caring for the people they serve, they'd rather send the police to be on guard on their maids, mummies and homes. 2027 is what matters to them now.

Why are they surprised that she died?

We're they expecting her to survive after jumping from that height and also bearing in mind that she does not know how to swim
