Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, Tony Okocha, has asked Governor Siminalayi Fubara to choose between resignation and impeachment.

Speaking at a news briefing in Port Harcourt, on Monday, Okocha described Fubara’s invitation of pro-Wike of the Rivers House of Assembly to a meeting as a Greek gift.

Daily Trust had reported how Fubara, who had been on a warring path with the 27 lawmakers who are loyalists of his estranged benefactor, invited them to a meeting at Government House, Port Harcourt, on Monday.

The invitation was sent after the expiration of the 48-hour ultimatum issued to the governor to present the 2025 budget.

The assembly had earlier issued another ultimatum for Fubara to sack commissioners and board not screened by the House.

It also summoned the Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).

A letter dated 9th March, signed by Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo and addressed to Speaker Mathew Amaewhule, stated that the governor had received the Supreme Court judgment and was ready to meet with the legislators.

The agenda includes discussions on providing a befitting space for assembly sittings, payment of outstanding allowances, budget presentation and other relevant issues.

The Supreme Court’s recent judgment, expected to end the prolonged political crisis in Rivers State, has instead deepened the turmoil, with both factions interpreting the ruling to their advantage.

At the briefing, Okocha accused the governor of abusing the rule of law.

The invitation to the lawmakers is a Greek Gift. The Supreme Court Judgement is final. There is nothing anybody can do about it. The only option available to the Governor now is for him to resign or be impeached,” Okocha stated.

Tony Okocha is an ally of Wike, so it is expected that he will heap pressure on Rivers polity, but it is not the way to go. Peace is needed now in the oil rich state.

You can't APC and still maintain your sanity. See what's coming out of a leader because of money. He should resign so that wike can take over cos its his family heritage. Fubara will spend 8 years and send Wike to political oblivion. Wike will never take one naira from Rivers allocation again. It has ended for him and his looters.

If you’re against godfatherism, then don’t rely on godfathers to win elections. That’s exactly the situation with Fubara and Wike. Fubara emerged through a corrupt system, and now he has to face the consequences.

Everybody wrote election results in the past. Even Awolowo was not immune to writing results.

I stress “in the past”. It is almost impossible for you to write elections today without leaving evidence that’s why all those fictitious million votes from Akwa Ibom, rivers, Borno etc have disappeared.

Impeachment of the governor will be difficult because it will involve the state's Chief Judge who might have been appointed by Fubara

Fubara is obviously banking on using a deluge of cash to buy over the House of Assembly . The HOA know they have nothing to lose in contrast to Fubara whose political extinction looms in the horizon! If he dares use his Ijaw connection to cause problems with oil exploration in the Niger Delta he descends the ladder to become a warlord and his end is predictable.

Ok
Fubara has been played.
He deserves to be impeached for many offenses against the state.
The 2 biggest ones in my book are burning of the state house of assembly and trying to circumvent the legitimate powers of the legally elected 27 .
He should be impeached.
