Nigeria’s Minister of State, Foreign Affairs has met with the Ambassador of the UAE ( United Arab Emirates H.E Salem Saeed Alshamsi, the charismatic Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Nigeria.

It is estimated that before the initial Visa ban, almost a million Nigerians visited the UAE, especially Dubai,; and would spend between $100m- $150m on Visas alone, and over $1 Billion, mostly on shopping sprees, exclusive of amounts spent on traders goods, payment of school fees, tourism and other related economic activities.

ITHE Minister of State noted that the economic relations between Nigeria and UAE are predominantly one sided and there is need to explore areas of collaboration that will enhance Nigeria’s economic interests. Officially, over 12,000 Nigerians live in the UAE, ranging from unskilled workers to professionals and students in various institutions across the country.

In driving the Federal Government’s citizen diplomacy policy, the major topic of discussion between the Foreign Affairs Minister of State, Bianca Ojukwu the UAE ambassador centered on the difficulties Nigerian citizens are currently experiencing in obtaining UAE visas to enable them travel to the Emirates, most especially to Dubai.

The UAE Ambassador in noting the concerns raised by the minister, stated that his government remained committed to sustaining the strategic diplomatic relations existing between Nigeria and the UAE whilst also providing certain guidelines in respect of the Visa application process, and pledged to address visa bottlenecks in visas issuance as well as taking the necessary steps to optimize the various MOUs signed by both countries to foster different economic partnerships and the promotion of trade and investment.
He reiterated the fact that Nigeria and the UAE share a warm friendship which he remains committed to strengthening and deepening.across both bilateral and multilateral engagements.

It is pertinent to note that the UAE recently donated a large consignment of relief materials to flood victims across the country, and vaccines for chicken pox patients to our health institutions.

They should forget this people, if not for useless leaders why should we be begging UAE for visa, is not the same oil that they have we have, we have a better quality oil than them, we should use that energy that we use in begging them for visa to develop our country
