Gov Fubara Directs Sacked LG Chairmen To Hand Over To HLGAs

Rivers State governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has directed the Heads of Local Government istration (HLGAs) to immediately take over the istration of the 23 local government areas pending the conduct of fresh elections by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).

The governor said, “Furthermore, given the outlawing of caretaker arrangements in the local government system, I hereby direct the Heads of Local Government istration to immediately take over the istration of the 23 local government councils pending the conduct of fresh elections by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission.

“I further direct the outgoing local government chairmen to formally hand over the levers of power to the Heads of Local Government istration by Monday, 3rd March, 2025.”

STATEWIDE BROADCAST BY THE GOVERNOR OF RIVERS STATE, HIS EXCELLENCY, SIR SIMINALAYI FUBARA, GSSRS, ON SUNDAY, MARCH 2, 2025, ON THE RECENT JUDGMENTS OF THE SUPREME COURT.

My dear people of Rivers State,

1. We are all aware of the recent Supreme Court judgments and pronouncements regarding aspects of the lingering political disputes in our dear State.

2. Although we disagree with the judgments, we are bound to obey the orders made therein as a law-abiding government.

3. Since inception, we have conducted the affairs of government within the framework of our Constitution, due process and the rule of law.

4. While we are not above mistakes because we are humans, we believe that we have not, as a government, done anything deliberately to trample on the rule of law or the hallowed principles of constitutional governance.

5. Accordingly, I have had a meeting with my team of lawyers, and they have assured me that the certified true copy of the judgements may be available to them by Friday, 7th March, 2025.

6. I assure you that upon the receipt of certified judgements, we shall study their ramifications and implement them without reservations to move the State forward.

7. Furthermore, given the outlawing of caretaker arrangements in the local government system, I hereby direct the Heads of Local Government istration to immediately take over the istration of the 23 local government councils pending the conduct of fresh elections by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission.

8. I further direct the outgoing local government chairmen to formally hand over the levers of power to the Heads of Local Government istration by Monday, 3rd March, 2025.

RIVERS POLITICAL CRISIS: WE'LL IMPLEMENT S'COURT JUDGMENT WITHOUT RESERVATIONS, GOV. FUBARA ASSURES

...Directs outgoing chairmen to handover to Heads of Local Government istrations in LGAs

Governor Siminalayi Fubara has assured Rivers people that he will implement, 'without reservations', recent Supreme Court judgment over lingering political crisis in the State.

Gov. Fubara in a Sunday State broadcast in Port Harcourt, said though he disagrees with the judgment, he is bound to obey the orders made as he runs a law-abiding government.

He, however, stressed that his istration will take necessary action on the judgment only after his legal team has received and analysed the implications.

He stated, "We are all aware of the recent Supreme Court judgments and pronouncements regarding aspects of the lingering political disputes in our dear State.

"Although we disagree with the judgments, we are bound to obey the orders made therein as a law-abiding government."

The governor emphasised that "Since inception, we have conducted the affairs of government within the framework of our constitution, due process and rule of law.
