Bro, there are many tech training institutes available, and I recommend you choose a specific niche in tech that interests you and enroll in it. As a teacher, you have the flexibility to complete this training within six months or less. At this point, pursuing a master’s degree or a new UTME may not be the most practical choice. If you’re able to fund those options, you could instead invest in a tech training program, which would likely provide more immediate and relevant benefits. Once you’ve completed your tech training and started earning a better income, you might consider pursuing a diploma at a polytechnic if you feel the need for an academic certificate as a backup. However, it’s worth noting that an academic certificate may not even be necessary given the opportunities in the tech field. |

Why are you studying? To acquire more useless certificates? Or to acquire necessary skills that will help you to become more marketable in the society? |

Computer science is not a good course?

You can pursue a Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science before transitioning fully into the field. Unlike Engineering, where principles like the laws of thermodynamics remain constant, or Biochemistry, where enzymes function as they always have, Computer Science evolves rapidly. The field is being reshaped so quickly that even the original programmers might find themselves locked out.

@Adonsty first go for PGDE with that you can apply as a Science Teacher with State Government to teach in Government owned Secondary Schools most especially Lagos State or anywhere within the Country or in a foreign land. After earning PGDE you can then go for your Master in related field with that you can be employed as an assistant lecturer. You already have a career path stop looking at otters. Education and teaching pay bills only if you are focus and consistent. Tech is too dynamic and fast changing so I won't advice you to pursue a career in that field if you don't have sponsors. |

Adonisty: I read your post on how you are finding it hard to break into tech. What you need is to change your approach. I don't know what you are doing but you are doing it wrong. Even if you acquire an extra degree, no one will hand you a role in tech if you are not competent. You need to take the tech thing serious, learn the trade. Bad as it may be in 2025, people are sending rejection letters to HRs because they got offers from another company on twitter. 1 Like |

You want to re-write JAMB at 30yrs and graduate at 34/35,close to 40? Only an academic career in the university would accommodate such age ,at entry level after graduation, whereas a master degree/PhD in Biochemistry would also guaranty you an even faster and automatic academic career in the university, if you so desire. Even an MSc degree in Biochemistry can launch you into the private sector in multinational manufacturing or even oil companies. However if computer is your interest, you do not need to rewrite JAMB for that. You can do professional courses cum diploma/Msc in computer science. You may also consider doing ACCA and MBA for a successful international career in ancy with optional ICAN conversion ,later. ACCA is a more globally recognized ancy qualification with prospects for international jobs. However this path would require that you a medium or big ing firm at once, to avoid work experience issues after qualification as a chartered ant. |

Adonisty:Check the following 1) How many biochemists with masters are working in desired fields and are satisfied with their salary. 2) How many certified biochemist are satisfied with salary? 3) How easy are tech job to get in Nigeria 4)Are those doing the tech satisfied with what they are doing in of salary? 5) How often are tech personnel needed in Nigeria labour demand 6) Before you do anything, check if those already ahead f you are doing well before ing them. I mean like 50 percent of them. I mean doing well in the field and not from another side hustle. 7) Is it money you dey look for by thinking all these ideas? If it’s money, it might be better to go and learn how to make money first because you might not get money from both ideas. 1 Like |

Dhoneymix: He said he's a teacher meaning he's probably not buoyant. If you know coursera very well you should understand that coursera is expensive. Their free courses are not good enough and seems limited. His best bet is YouTube and Alison. Alison is free and they go more in-depth than coursera despite being free as you only pay for the certificates. Lemme make this clear. Coursera is the best and no online school comes close but it's expensive. Alison on the other hand is free and you can combine the knowledge with YouTube and you're good to go. |

Instead of pursuing a Master's imminently, just get a laptop and take a course in Data Science or Data Analysis from Dataleum or Quantum Analytics. That will be the best career decision you would make. I have a friend like that, he has a degree in Biochemistry, and spent about 3 years selling bread. He took the bold step and enrolled for a Data Analytics Certification from Quantum Analytics and today he's doing fine as a Data Analyst. Yours could be a different course anyways, Cybersecurity or anything else. |

Adonisty: Since you're a STEM graduate, you can go for a professional master's degree in IT. Don't make the mistake of starting another B.Sc. just because you had a 2nd class lower... just continue at postgraduate level. You can enrol in UNILAG for the said course and some universities also offer similar programs in IT and computer science depending on your location. Good luck. |

AirBere: Coursera is relatively free. I did a professional course on Coursera for free. I'm still running other courses as we speak. You can write to apply for aid. In two to three weeks it will be granted. But you have to make sure you finish the course at the time allotted for you to. If not, then you'd have to pay. Thank you, I think I will check out that of Alison too. You're a great person. Thank you. 2 Likes |
