Ali Odefa has been re-elected as the Chairman of the South-East zone of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Odefa was re-elected on Wednesday at the South-East Zonal Congress held at Michael Okpara Square, Enugu State.

The congress was attended by delegates from the five South-East states, as well as notable figures including Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State and the chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees, Adolphus Wabara.

Twenty-two positions were filled unopposed, while James Ugwu was re-elected as the Zonal Secretary.


Speaking at the event, Governor Mbah, the only PDP governor in the zone, emphasised the importance of unity within the party.

“When we describe the PDP as a great party, it’s not just a borrowed mantra. The party’s greatness is derived from its capacity to reinvent itself and retain its national appeal in the face of challenges,” he said.

He further noted that the South-East has always been a stronghold for the PDP and should remain so.

“We fully understand the demands and expectations of the people in a democratic setting. The bottom line is good governance. This is the ideal to which the PDP has committed from its inception,” Mbah added.

Speaking on behalf of the newly elected zonal executive, Odefa appealed to party who may have been aggrieved by the process to unite for the party’s progress.

“We will make you proud. We have a fresh mandate of four years, and within this period, we will right all the wrongs in our party. Let us come together and build a party that all of us can be proud of,” Odefa said.

A federal high court in Abakaliki validated this man's expulsion as the South East zonal vice-chairman of PDP and they are still electing him today. Indeed, PDP is really a house of confusion.

Who expelled him that the court had to affirm? Not until you add this to this information, you submission is not objective. Are you now telling us that one of the roles of Nigerian courts is the expulsion of political party ?

A court cannot de a member of a member of a political party.
The judge ruled based on ignorance.
