Security expert Sir Chikwe Udensi has once again urged the Nigerian government to adopt a political resolution in the ongoing case of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_sllbqMgCc

Speaking during Open Parliament on Family Love FM Umuahia and ABN TV, Udensi warned that peace in the Southeast would remain elusive as long as Kanu remains in custody.

“We have all these governments, but not peace. Until this injustice continues, we cannot have sustainable peace in the Southeast,” Udensi stated, emphasizing that Kanu’s prolonged detention has significantly contributed to rising insecurity in the region.

He criticized the federal government for failing to address the legal and political complexities surrounding Kanu’s case, arguing that it has led to heightened unrest, including increased incidents of kidnapping and banditry. “By removing Nnamdi Kanu, this legal process is continually agitating and creating massive insecurity in the Southeast. But they have refused to listen. What else are we supposed to take?" he questioned.

Udensi also accused Southeast political leaders, including governors, National Assembly , and federal appointees, of inaction. He argued that their silence on the matter has only worsened tensions in the region.

The controversy surrounding Kanu’s detention has deepened in recent months, with the judiciary failing to enforce multiple court orders that ruled in favor of his release. While acknowledging Kanu’s militant rhetoric, Udensi expressed concerns that the judiciary’s refusal to follow due process is setting a dangerous precedent.

"I watched the video clips of what happened in court. I am not comfortable, to a very large extent, allowing Nnamdi Kanu to be speaking. He has a way of expressing himself that does not seek fair play, respect, or understanding of the courts. He is militant," Udensi noted.

Despite several legal victories, Kanu remains behind bars, raising concerns about judicial independence and the government's broader stance on the IPOB movement. Udensi, however, insists that a political solution is the best path forward.

"We have written several letters to the executive, judiciary, and legislative arms. We have asked them to take a process outside the courts. Take a political process so that this situation that has endangered lives and property in the Southeast is ameliorated," he stated.

Udensi suggested that while Kanu should be released, his freedom should come with certain conditions to ensure stability in the region. “I am not one of those who believe his release should be unconditional. No. It should be conditional. But he should be released, and then we shall find a way to seek lasting peace in the Southeast,” he explained.

However, Kanu himself has rejected any negotiations for his freedom. Through his lawyers, he has insisted that his agitation for self-determination is a constitutional right, not a crime. "He has urged those clamoring for his release not to beg for it, asserting that his agitation for self-determination is a right and not a crime," Udensi recounted.

Udensi countered Kanu’s approach, arguing that his hardline stance could prolong the crisis. "We need peace, not war! You can’t be wanting peace and proclaiming war at the same time," he cautioned.

You wey dey sleep and wake up for NL most times, get a meaningful life?

The bolded is because I know what you represents here. You represent lies and propaganda against Ndigbo and that is my major problem with you. Leave Igbo (including Obi) related posts alone and you will never see me on your mentions again.

For what? angry MNK should either be released according to the rule of law of he should remain in the government's custody indefinitely. After all that's what he wants.

The sit at home (civil disobedience) in the South East must remain until the Nigerian state does what is right and proper. No mago-mago, Igbos do not like cheating cool

In the meantime, civil servants in IGBO land will continue to have 3 day weekends and a complete salary package after every 30 days exactly like their counterparts from other regions who never sit at home but donate over 90% of their VAT and TAXES to the same South East that decides to waste 4 days a month enjoying their lazy Mondays grin

Isn't Oluwa Wonderful 😊

Uwazuruike was living in a one-room apartment in Ijeshatedo in Lagos when he started Massob. Today, he's a billionaire despite many of his boys being killed. He was the one who was selling Biafran ports and currency notes to gullible Igbos.

People don't understand that Biafra is the biggest business opportunity in Igboland.

Kanu doesn't have a single business or plaza in the East. Biafra is his bread and butter. Without Biafran donations, Kanu will starve. He needs posturing so his gullible ers will continue to drop money.

At least, if you don't drop money for buying missiles to bomb Nigeria, you will drop money for legal case. Mugu must fall.

Igbos doesn't understand politics in Nigeria... Form a coalition, garner from other regions and gain their trust. Then you are good to go... Instead, they want to forcefully eject themselves from the zoo. Meanwhile, in the zoo, there are stronger animals that must be tamed before you escape. If you try to play wise with them, you become their prey. Igbos should learn grin grin

Who are we that he is talking about ?? You people that have sold kanu out and just playing along with the government cos of your selfish gains. Top lawyers have said it long ago that Mr Kanu detention is illegal. So why still hold him in prison and expect him to be calm. Oga you self go enter prison make people dey reason you to calm down.

We know the politics involved in Kanu's incarceration, they dont want to release him,so that they insecurity in the East will continue and using the fifth columnists to continue destabilising the East.
Even Asari Dokubo once confessed on there private military operation in the East and was fully contracted by the government for this clandestine operation. It wasn't investigated,it was swept under the carpet because it is 'the hands of Esau and voice of Jacob'.
We are watching with kin interest,Nigeria is a theatre of the absurd and a tragedy waiting to happen.Posterity will definitely be on the side of truth.
Amah70: 9:08am On Feb 13
Yes. Peace, not war is required for any plans to restore Biafra. In any case, No Violence has always been the Motto of those asking for Biafra this time. We know who injected Violence into the agitation when unarmed IPOB people praying in a church in Aba were massacred, followed by Operation Python Dance.

I respect the right to self-determination, but how you decide to go about becomes a concern.

There has to be a diplomatic wing to your struggle. While there are usually guerrilla kind of militancy, there should be people going to the negotiations table on behalf of your cause.

They really need to rethink the whole approach.

At the very least, your approach shouldn't kill your own people and take away their means of livelihood.

If you want to be protected by the Law, operate within its bounds.

He was released with conditions last time, people were killed and he skipped bail.

I sha hope they don't make him a martyr.

If southeast is ready to release Kanu less than a month,it’s very easy but the truth is,most of the ipob elite don’t want him released. One was even deceiving ipob malnourished youths that “ she took up her diplomatic role to influence the release of the terrorist ! Five eastern governors should “meet Abdulsalam and babaginda, tell them to talk to the president and see the drama that will unfold. It’s the same babaginda that spoke with Jonathan that left mustapha off his condemned incarceration. They know what to do but they won’t do it . They will rather make it look complicated and condemned their malnourished youths into frustration! Even when it’s obvious it’s political motivated! That said, if we want to be fair with our self, the minimum Kanu should spend in jail is 21 to 32 years imprisonment ,”judging by the capacity of the havock he caused by his IPOBs. Who kill Nigeria forces and claimed responsibility for it?? How dare you asked some set of people to destroy an individual property? I thought it was a joke until an Igbo man confirmed it! He was so carried away and he thought since he was in the uk,he can’t be touched! But the monkey does not know who he was dealing with. grin

What makes you think MNK isn't operating within the bounds of the Nigerian law today? 🤔

Explain the bolded above, who killed who and made who to skip his bail? undecided

Anyway, me I no dey take your posts seriously again ever since I noticed you have a problem with

1. Obidients
2. Peter obi
3. Igbos
4. Labor Party
5. Anambra

BUT YET you claim to be a neutral in politics while shying away from ever dragging APC or their tilumbu or even PDP self at any time in your life. So you feel because you weren't chanced to use your voters card in 2023 it automatically means you do not APC or their tilumbu abi? You feel you're wise 😆

Hypocrite. I'd rather bant with a low riffraff like helinues on this forum than engage with you who feels hiding like a coward would make your motives invisible to us with discerning minds angry

This should be the last I will ever engage you on this nairaland, well . . . Depending on how snaky your response is 😏
