1 acre acquired on lease for 2 years
Projecting 5000 suckers of pineapple to be combined with cassava and maize

Hoping to use proceeds from maize to offset Cost of Production (COP) for pineapple and cassava.

UPDATE: ANIMAL

I plan to start small. After several consultations, I have decided to acquire two pregnant sows.

I visited the proposed pen today and had a discussion with the owner. I'll be renting five pens:

Place each sow in a separate room for them to farrow
Utilize two more rooms after weaning
Keep one room for feeds and all other supplies
A room costs #5,000 per month

Also today, I went around to check for good sows and priced them. They are expensive, but I'm still negotiating.

Later in the week, I'm going to prepare the pen, fumigate, and get things ready for the Queen Mothers.

I think you should stay with software oooo. 2 years leased for pineapple. Na waooo. Who dey advise you people? Damn! Cassava, pineapple and corn. Lol. That guy wey wan cash out has already cashed out selling his suckers. Anyway, I hope you are making dollars with your software stuff...cos it is very sure you will face serious challenges.

I'm just for waiting, and it is very sure that you will stop updating or start lamenting as soon as success is close by. They will make you invest very well and the time you start harvesting pineapple, you will understand. Happy spending.

Does pineapple/cassava/maize/pig meat production look like growing to eat? No dey yarn attack anyone anyhow because na embarrassment e dey cause. Use sense small small na. You want me to encourage a foolish investor (definitely, you are a potential maga ....lol grin) who cannot make research before running into pineapple suckers and cassava stem sellers? Pineapple, cassava, corn, and pig farming.... grin on a 2-years leased land. grin Dem go suck am dry. Big time. If pineapple is for making profit, there is a way to go about it. Those into it know what I am saying...but I won't say anything or give more hints. I'm going to let scammers come on board and show themselves by attacking me. Many people are saved.

Read this: No pineapple farmer will ever insult me and attack me for calling him a fool. . Read what I have bolded here. And I know it very well. No good person who has gone into pig farming or pineapple production will ever attack me. Rather, they will just smile and move on if they don't want to make any comment here.

I can encourgae you to keep up the good work of talking anyhow without using your sense so you can embarrass yourself more. grin Or you can simply just keep quiet cos you don't understand the game. Use your head before posting here. I decided to reply you cos I feel you don't know anything about agric. So, take your own advice and no dey yarn anyhow. Instead....Read and learn. Let the doctors of scammers... the likes of Dr.doc.... doctor of doctors ....doctors in scamming above keep fooling themselves. No word for such.

Blessing.

Can you elaborate more on your spacing and how you intend to plant 5,000 suckers on one acre and on same acre you are still intercropping with maize and cassava? Why the 3 together esp the choice of cassava? How are you rooting out your cassava at harvest without you rooting out the pineapple?

Yes I did some surveys in the locality here

I got a discount for the rooms

Starting with 5 rooms

2 to house the incoming sows till they farrow

Then utilise 2 more after weaning

I'll get boar just before the next cycle in a room

Would also use part of a room for store

What do you think?

Make sure that you pay for three years lease, so that if there is any delay in the production cycle that sees the frutiting enter into the third year, the land owners wont want to take advantage of the situation. You are on track. You will learn as you continue on your journey.

Hmmmm. I will give you clue...go and make further research. If I start telling you many things here, your consultants are reading. They will use another method to injure you. But for the sake of readers, I will drop two hints.

1. Stay away from people who jump to advise you especially that dr.doc. Please, stay away. I won't say much about it. If he is your consultant, use wisdom to handle him. I won't say much. Check everything everyone tells you well. Do not just listen to me too. Check what I have posted here.

2. Pineapple is a perennial crop that can give you back to back income for around 7 years or more if you take care of it well. So, do you think 2 or 3 years lease is a wise decision? And can anyone allow you have a longer lease? Use this information to see if its a wise decision to lease a land for pineapple production. Since there are not so many pineapple farmers around...go and consult banana and plantain farmers. Ask them...do they lease land and how long if they do? If they say yes, ask them the procedure. Also ask the pros and cons. Consultants always tell lies about its lifespan. Lol. Don't listen to that quack adviser.

Guy, real farmers are already smiling. They won't say much. cheesy I have finished my job here. With the questions I have giving you to ask around, you will understand everything very well. Even without asking anyone, anyone can use his/her common sense to quickly get my point.

Let me give you jara.

3. Do not start even that pig farm until you have answers to the questions. You will be shocked what you will unravel.

Goodluck!

Alright thank you

The plan is to purchase the land outrightly

However, the available resource is not available for that

So the goal is to purchase it outrightly.

Following your advice, I'll work on adding another year to the agreed lease

Thanks

Please don't be weary in letting your advice if possible, I'm not under the influence of any consultant

1. I'll do well to make continuous research. The person you mentioned only made a comment here just like you, I don't know him personally. (Seems you guys have issue, well, please settle it amicably smiley)

2. Now I get your submission about the year of current lease just as DrDoc buttressed. As I mentioned before this reply, the plan is to purchase the land outrightly, although it's not in the current agreement. So I'll work on extending the lease period.

3. Well, for the pig, there is not going back in the stage I am currently. They are two different operations, in different locations, with different advisors I've been engaging.

Thanks for the input, really appreciate

You are a wise man to quickly see my point. Bros, don't vex ooo. My first comment here sounded like I attacked you, but it was psychological. See, if you are a consultant who wants to use this thread to deceive people, you will attack me. But since you are genuinely someone who wants to make your farm work, you did not mind my initial comment. And that's me. But you see...many people who put up threads like this use them as baits. Lol.

As regard the guy, I don't even know he exists. That's the truth. Wetin be mine? Someone I don't know about his existence is who I will have issues with. Lol. My concern is the majority here.

Concerning the land. You know Naijas very well cos you are a naija too. You know how land issue is. Tell me, if the people you lease land from are not with "Godly" heart, won't they be tempted to find a way to send you away after 3 years? The owner don make small change na. Na land we lease you....oga, and e don expire...we wan use the land...Come carry your pineapples. Na so, you go panic too...OK. Give us twice the amount of lease...give us part of the pineapple. Next year, the same thing happens. Go and ask farmers who leased land for banana and plantain production in those days. Lol. Bro....abort the plan. Buy the land first, secure it very well before you set up crops with longer years life span on it.

If there is a stream close to the place or can you drill a borehole? If yes, consider converting the project to papaya. Research first.

Do not ever go ahead with pineapple...you will regret it. After 2 years that the walaha will likely start, it will disturb you from doing other things. You will lose focus. Better avoid the wahala now. Papaya has a shorter life span.

You may consider goats if you change your plan. Again, the chances that you will have a smooth land purchase after planting pineapple there is very slim.

You are sick.

To readers, when you have not done a project before, you won't understand. Those who have done something know what I wrote about. The only good thing is that op is cool headed and I dont pray for his downfall or for that of empty people also, but we have cases of those who even insulted us with their gangs. What happened at the end? We know. Even many returned to try to cover up, and when they were asked questions, they abandoned the threads. No be here we still dey? In this Tinubu era when everyone don japa finish from agric? When consultants are now desperately brutal?

Time will tell.

To this nasty poster. Get the heck outta my mention. And to others who will follow his route, stop derailing the thread and read in peace. Other farmers have seen what I saw. Only useless people who open their smelly mouths when their brains are empty will use their yeye fingers type rubbish. You better hug a transformer if you don't like my comments. As much as one doesn't want to smack dundie uniteds, you always are pigs. Damn! Hatred consumes, and it will finish you prematurely if you don't change. Many of you are filled with hatred. You are a shallow thinker like the nasty dr.doc above. Filled with hatred. Filled with extreme bitterness. I pray you give your life to Christ before it is too late. You and that dr.doc.

Foolish man calling himself an innocent man. grin Na so "innocent" fathers and grandfathers of yours make sure Nigeria doesn't work. Nothing go dey their heads, but they must talk and make sure their will is done. Very frustrating to share the same society with indomie brains. Very frustrating. They done understand simple things. Elementary students can use their intuitive brain better than them. But when it comes to violence, bitterness, criticism without thinking, they are excellent.

Get the heck outta my space.

Iamsane...you are not. You are absolutely insane. Get into Yaba left before its too late.
Delve(m): 10:07am On Feb 14
I have been following this thread and I think I should just give my honest opinion.

To start with, I am a pig farmer and I have done plantain farming before. All what Epainos has been saying are all through.

I want to appreciate the op that created this thread and started this journey but I can find fault in this your journey. #5000/month per room for pigs is too high but maybe it's due to your location because here, I rent #10,000/year, hope you see the difference.

Also for your crop farming, I pray you don't have bitter experience on that. Farm owners do take advantage when they see that their leased land is used for crop with longer life span. After the expiry of the agreed duration for leasing, they can just say that they want to make use of their land and you will be left with no choice than to vacate... Don't think they will sell that same land to you.... They will not do that.

I wish you success in your agric journey

With due respect to the op, you should have tried to get before the venture and then make your investing decisions. But it seems you have already engaged your investments before looking for advice.
I am proud to say I have been following epainos since the times he was on pistotita and fluentinfor moniker and I have never regretted taking his advice on this forum in the agriculture section. Even his criticisms of his are legendary advice if you really don't want to make gross mistakes.
All what he has said is correct. The most competitive and riskiest of businesses is agriculture and it is also full of opportunists. Only real farmers who fear God will tell you the truth when venturing into agriculture.
I will advise you to avoid extending the lease, do shorter life span crop like the cassava and use the proceeds to acquire a land for longer span crops.
Agribusiness is not a get rich quick or wealth flaunt game, it is a business where you pay attention to every detail because the loss in agriculture is irrecoverable. I was gifted a free land to farm and after the first harvest the owner became jealous without me knowing. Owner waited for me to do the next planting and at flowering told me to come and clear my crops that she want to plant corn. I had no choice but to succumb.
I wish you all the best.
