Are Yorubas Really Afraid Of These People? (4117 Views)

I've observed that yorubas have a mortal fear of the fulani, even here on Nairaland I see how they don't have the balls to give rebuttals to fulani attacks and disparaging comments against them. The reason why I find this fearful behaviour absurd is because I've come across articles where yorubas beat their hollowed chests and brag about defeating fulani in wars fought in the past and even boast about eating fulani horses that they captured during the war. Now, my question is. How does a people end up being afraid of a group they claim to have conquered in different battles and on several occasions? We all saw how the Timid of Ede hurriedly prostrated before the emir of ilorin and yorubas like helinues started defending a clear aberration and telling us how the emir of ilorin towers above all the yoruba monarchs in rank. What a shame It's such a curious thing that a yoruba king will travel all the way to ilorin a yoruba city to prostrate before the offspring of an invader who annexed their territory and yet the yoruba people shamelessly found an excuse to defend such absurdity. I ask again, are yoruba people afraid of fulani? Or is it just a myth? I'm here to learn just like other curious readers here on Nairaland and I'd like well grounded yoruba scholars to throw more light on this 24 Likes 3 Shares |

The fear is real, in fact all the tinubu camp are afraid of one fulani man called El-rufai even his teenage sons they make them shiver life leaf in the rain.

blacknp: No, this is not a joke. It's a fact everybody in Nigeria is privy to. It's only yoruba people that pretend that it's not true but the reality on ground paints a different picture. I was hoping you'd shed more light on this but obviously you don't belong to the yoruba intelligentsia so I'll wait for the intellectuals to throw more light on the topic 22 Likes 4 Shares |

BloomingDale: Wow! So the yorubas cherish this relationship more than the fulani does? Meaning yoruba force themselves on fulani for validation? By this submission you it that the relationship between yoruba and fulani is that of master and slave? When your high ranking oba prostrated before the offspring of an invader in your land, was that also an expression of how much you cherish this so called relationship with fulani? 16 Likes 1 Share |

The only people who are scared of "the north", "Hausa-Fulani" in Nigeria happens to lgb0s. That's the only ethnicity in Nigeria that's scared of Fulani, but they have a way of projecting themselves on others. Yorubas will only retaliate to whatever you bring. 42 Likes 7 Shares |

By nature they are timid, some hide under timidity as being respectful. Yoruba do not really have any problem with the igbos, they are only fi*thing the igbos as a sign of loyalty to the Fulani or just please then since they know igbos and Fulani are enemies*s. The Yoruba cannot survive in a country comprising of them and the Fulani alone for one month. Even the late awolowo said if Biafra succeeded in breaking out of Nigeria, Yoruba will leave too. If Nigeria should divide today, Yoruba will stop bashing the igbos.l, cos they will have no master to please(the north) Another major reason for this fear is the Biafra w@r, while the Fulani Kpai the igbos physically, the Kpai the Yoruba psychologically. One of the greatest fear to Yoruba existence is the political alignment between the north and south east/south south. 16 Likes 2 Shares |

JagabanBorgu: As much as I would like to agree with you, the reality on ground paints a different picture and all the tribes in Nigeria knows that the yorubas have been completely emasculated by the fulani to the extent that only fulani are allowed to sight the moon and lead prayers on behalf of yorubas. Just recently your oba prostrated flat before a fulani monarch in yoruba land. I understand the deep-seated pain and shame you feel about this reality but you need to take things easy so you don't hurt yourself 18 Likes 2 Shares |

A Yoruba man always need crowd or ers to speak up against oppression. One Igbo guy was oppressing a Yoruba cleaner who happens to be my boy in my place of work, I had to shout on the trouble some Igbo guy to stop that rubbish or else I will redesign his face. It was after my involvement and that of other Yoruba guys he started running his mouth. I'm from akoko Edo and bears Yoruba name so I'm Yoruba by extension according to them. 3 Likes |

top10villa: This is beautifully and well captured, but for the record, the fulani are no match to the powerful Igbo nation and killing soft Igbo targets in their territory doesn't mean a thing. You can see how they behave themselves in ala Igbo but they molest and kill yorubas in yoruba land 8 Likes |

Lol Armed men stormed a Chuch in Owo, Ondo State, and killed 40 people. Everyone had an idea who the armed men were. But South Westerners made less noise about this massacre of their own people than they uproar they made over a threat by a 70 year old Igbo man made in Lagos about inviting IPOB tells all you need to know 14 Likes 2 Shares |

Pelicanbrief: Do you know that the only place on earth you will ever meet an Ibo man behaving himself to the point of being humble and not chest beating as usual is in northern Nigeria? Let that sink. 12 Likes 2 Shares |

christejames: I believe you because Ijebu people are from Sudan and are known to be warriors, but yoruba people are very much afraid of fulani and kowtow to fulani every chance they get. The Timid of Ede is there for reference to this mortal fear of fulani 6 Likes |

Pelicanbrief:First and foremost, I'm actually a northerner speaking from my interaction with u southerners. The Igbo Muslim waits for the sultan to sight the moon for him. It's about religion not tribe, but the average lgb0 who's a cIout chaser will refuse to use his brain. It's same ur chiefs are prostrating before different Sarki and Emirs here in the north. That's the reality on ground. 39 Likes 2 Shares |

APCHaram: Do you also know that the only place on earth you'll find a fulani man behaving himself and not crossing his boundaries is in Eastern Nigeria? But in Western Nigeria they kill and molest yorubas with reckless abandon in yoruba land. Let that pain and shame marinate and sink in π |

JagabanBorgu: Yes, a black man cannot be Caucasian the same way a yoruba man cannot be from the north, so stop deluding yourself and tell us why yorubas fear fulani. Every other thing you wrote is bunkum and I didn't bother to read |
dynicks(m): 12:48pm On Feb 12 |
APCHaram:Now u sound childish to have used "the only place on earth"....but that aside, Good thing u confirmed it being that the Igbos respect themselves while within the locality of the fulanis...but again, the respect swings to all persons irrespective of tribe and ethnicity......IGBOS don't trouble ..but the thing is they won't just sit back and watch you trouble them without them standing to their feet and speaking or acting up!.....Now that's gallantry and confidence...!!...And when they do, u now tag them as not being respectful and troublesome?.. 4 Likes |
