UNLAWFUL ARREST OF AKWA OKUKO FOR OKE-ITE.

Nigeria is a secular state.

The constitution under section 38 guarantees freedom of worship and religion.

This includes traditional religion and others.

In other words, I can wake up tomorrow and start worshipping and bowing to cockroach or mosquito.

It's allowed under the constitution.

Oke-ite (awele) it's a good juju/sacrifice by traditional religion adherents.

They believe that they can bring leaves, animal parts and other natural things into a pot to command good luck or attract favours.

There is no difference between this okeite and what christians do when they use salt, handkerchief, candles, olive oil, holy water etc for prayers.

Christians believe these things work, just like traditional worshippers believe oke-ite works.

Both Pastors and Dibias claim possess supernatural powers to attract favours.

New law made by Soludo attempts to circumscribe this fundamental rights by suggesting that Oke-ite is unlawful.

This is a flagrant violation of the constitutional rights of traditional worshippers.
That section of Soludo's law will be declared unlawful by the courts when tested.

Akwa may be interrogated if he aids or abets kidnappers, criminals, fraudsters etc.

But not in the basis of preparing oke-ite for people who believe oke ite works for them.

Government still must not only apprehend these so called Herbalists, but must also deal strongly with those ing them in any guise.
Traditional medicine practitioner must be ed just like the Medical doctors. He will be prosecuted for practicing medicine without license, he is not a ed religious entity nor charity. Criminals caught has been linked to him, his claims and practices. Government has obligations to ensure that the people are led in defining principles of state policies and that constitutional rights of all hardworking people and tax payers are protected.

You are very ignorant and wrong.

Firstly I’m not Yoruba, so you are presumptuous, and secondly, there no such thing as tribalism in African spirituality, so my ethnicity is irrelevant in approaching any traditional healing or religion.

You do not speak for traditional priests, so don’t make any silly claims about them here.

I am a traditional priest.

I am telling you that my people's traditional and cultural beliefs and practices would not work for you who is not a son of the soil.

You can find such practices elsewhere but not here with my people. Thank you as you leave to go find some wayward skulls to mine wink

Government also have the obligation to protect the gullible by force.
They should extend it to the church as well.

They arrested Akwa Okuko, but cannot say what he did wrong, that they will investigate.

Nigeria is a strange country. In civilised countries, people are arrested because they have been investigated and found wanting. But in Nigeria, people are arrested so that they can be investigated to see if they will be found wanting

Oke-ite has been there a long time, people go and do juju to be successful. Where is that against the law. I could go to any Pastor and tell them I want prayers to be successful. They might tell me buy imported incense, candles, olive oil and other things then enter a prayer regime. Is that anyway illegal

That's the same as Oke-Ite. The Government of Soludo just started meddling in traditional religious practices that he has no business meddling in

You're always found on the side of wrongs. You don't know the heartbeat of the Anambra and Igbo people.
What is Traditional 'religious' practices in what they are doing? Is witchcraft part of it? Is throwing a live goat or animal into the water part of it? It's just that the government is being lenient and has no foresight, otherwise, most of these herbalists (Kidnappers) would have been dealt with in a more judicious way. There is nothing religious in what Akwa and others like him are doing.

I agree with OP that Anambra state as a secular state should accommodate both Christian and Traditional religions.

Akwa Okuko and other genuine native doctors should form an umbrella association of genuine traditional religion practitioners.

Genuine native doctors should also be careful about who they are preparing medicine for.

Ha ha ha ha! Is like.this.one touched gidiggidy to the marrow. Your ipob medicine man has been arrested. Go to court not online to fight for his release. Was he arrested yesteryears, that you will be asking government why he arrested him? If you believe he was arrested for no reason, kindly resume at court room tomorrow. Is like you are also patronizing him. Tell him to disappear from court or tell him to tell the police to be sleeping while he escapes. After interrogation, if he is found guilty; he will be prosecuted. He is turning many youths to be so lazy and dangerous.

There is nothing called Witchcraft in the constitution of Nigeria. My own is, if you have evidence that anyone has violated any law in Nigeria, arrest and charge to court. But you don't arrest a person just so you can ask them if they broke the law

Akwa Okuko was arrested, yet nobody can point to any law the guy broke. It's terrible what is happening in Nigeria, a country where people are arrested for the sake of arresting.

People can be detained for questioning. Nigeria judicial procedure require suing them to court within 72hrs, so there is nothing unconstitutional being done to Akwa as 72hrs has not elapsed.

Am not in of Akwa arres, freedom of religion bliefs and practices is firmly made clear in the law(only that the con3 can be lawless especially when it involves governments and individuals. What am against is misrepresentation of our culture,in odinani and in Igbo cosmology,we clearly understand that rituals like the ones akwa okukor and his likes are doing is alien to our culture, rituals involving all kinds of unclean and smelly things can never our culture as an ethnic nation,by all means let them cook the pot for you but its never our culture.

The big question is what does he do and if he earns money legally.
If he earns money from younger boys who are fooled to believe money can be made through other means which aren't conventional, then obviously he has a case to answer.

Heck, if his cash inflow and outflow is accessed, he'll spend more time behind bars if he cannot prove beyond every logic how he is able to afford the cars and houses he take pictures with.

He's just another scammer posting with things that don't belong to him. Fooling the younger folks on the Internet that feel his "Oke ite" could help them escape the poverty and inconvenience around them

Lets be quiet and observe whether the Gov@Soludo wants to compare and constrast because 2025 is an election year in that state,no matter the level of religious life and average nigerian politician wants to source for the real stuff. The state burgeoning GDP may turn PDP if and only if......,,,and vice versa.Economics is very far from this discussion, this one is not speculative, precautionary or transactionary motive of what the Prof Governor knows.
