NSUKKA LOCAL GOVERNMENT CHAIRMAN CAN DO BETTER AND FOLLOW THE BLUEPRINT OF OUR GOVERNOR, DR PETER MBAH. To be sincere, the current governor, Dr Peter Mbah is readily aggressive with transformative blueprints that could transform Enugu state for good, if fully internalized and conscientiously followed by his lieutenants especially at the critical grass roots of local Govt istration. But the Nsukka Local Government Chairman seems to be limping in thoughts in that direction. He appears overwhelmed by the magnitude of civic engagement necessary to properly make available to our common people, the inevitable sacrifices and consensus everyone deserves to move development forward. For a recently upgraded Urban Status that Nsukka LGA now enjoys in totality, one expects that the rigour of coherence, persuasion and understanding with the people he governs, will take preeminence over hubris, arrogance and mental fatigue to what is involved and needed. A recent encounter at Opi Uno, precisely at Ibeku Opi, in Nsukka Local Government left everyone embarrassed, humiliated and angry. How can the first instinct of a Chairman be to send bulldozers, armed and hooded policemen to clear cassava farms, uproot cashew trees, and palm plantations owned legally by identified humble citizens, and immediately sold the hate harvests for timber.? Curious minds enquiring and observing the motives behind the mighty show of force by his parade of bullet proof police enforcers are yet to recover from the trauma. When as expected there was demand for explanations or conversations as our closest government interaction, we were met with incoherent oral explanations that the Local Government wish expand shops and kiosks at the Opi Market clearly ignoring the the fallow spaces meant for such endeavors originally. When that was punctured and pointed out, the officials started claiming that Barttolletti, a defunct Road Construction Company, bequeathed their unutilized lease of our ancestral inheritance to the State for "shops and more shops." They assumed an empty land refer to the absence of brick and mortar. And therefore, the Local Government Authority without comion, due diligence and citizens engagement came without notice to destroy Cashew trees and Palm plantations that were groomed over the years. This is totally against the State Government's policy of Agrarian Revolution and Environmental sustainability protection, with focus towards expansion of agricultural products especially cash crops like cashew and Palm trees. The Town is not against development, but demands to be respected by consultations through the right channels rather than through the back doors. Again, the Town is wise enough to have mapped out free lands should there be need for market expansion . Rather than building more shops around the Customary Court area, deeper insights to avoid citizens dispossession ought to have sensibly advised that the already mapped out land for the stated purpose be utilized. Those mapped out lands are still there and yet to be developed. We encourage the Local Government Chairman, Engr. Jude Chinedu Asogwa to please carefully study the State Governor's blueprints on development and Citizens prosperity to allow him align properly to that vision in his desire to make Nsukka Urban Status better and greater. We are ready to cooperate and guide him along that line as we cherish the commercial significance Opi Town has emerged as a major transportation hub in our national network. Kenis Uba 1 Like |

Gov Mbah Signs Enugu State Internal Revenue Service Bill into Law to Eliminate Multiple Taxation. The Governor stated this law will help eliminate multiple taxation and help the state gov't in its drive to actualise its IGR target for 2025 of N500 billion! He said they're already well on there way towards achieving this and is even confident they will sur the set target. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jiAErOWkkus?si=TJmfsLZsWr--lKQG 4 Likes |

Makes you think doesn’t it! Had the naira not plummeted to the all time lows we have seen from 2023 to date, what we would been talking of now is the Enugu state gov’t under Peter Mbah raising more than $1 billion in revenue annually for governance and provision of infrastructure in the state! If he manages to pull this off, and have it reflected in project delivery in the state, then he would rank just after Dr MI Okpara and next to Dee Sam Mbakwe in the annals of performing s of Igbo extraction! I’ve always said there’s no reason why states like Anambra and Abia should not be recording at least double of what Enugu is capable of recording (at least N800 billion) in revenue generation! They have double the commercial and industrial activity Enugu has, and Anambra specifically has more than double the taxable real-estate and housing infrastructure that Enugu has! Part of the problem is that Anambra indigenes don’t like being taxed for their landed properties and the gov’t doesn’t seem to be that interested in pursuing them for it! Coupled with the fact that the four other states in the south-east are yet to effectively plug all the loopholes through which they haemorrhage on their IGR as we see Peter Mbah has done in Enugu! 5 Likes 1 Share |

500 billion from which economic activity. Last year he claimed to have raised 35 billion in 7 months. By the time he was presenting the budget, he claims he raises 144 billion. How, only God knows. Today he is claiming 500 billion. Propaganda doesn't generate igr

History555: I understand your cynicism, but why don’t you wait till the official release of IGR numbers for 2024 before casting the man? the period you’re highlighting was when the state gov’t was still relatively new and still perfecting its IGR generation strategy! 2 Likes |

IGBOPROMISE1: When it comes to igr. Anyone can claim anything. What matters is what did you do with igr. Ogun claims highest igr after lagos and rivers but can't tar the road leading to agbara industrial where they have nestle, reckitt, Johnson, Unilever etc. Ota is even worse. Oya pay above minimum wage, wahala. Even kogi claimed to have generated 130 billion last year 5 Likes |

History555: Dude, you’re failing over your own argument! You were the one that attached the screenshot of the report where the state gov’t said they generated N35 billion in 7 months! You accepted that assertion and ran with it because you thought it helped you advance your argument. Now the same state gov’t has stated their target for 2025, all of a sudden you’re accusing them of propaganda and dishonesty! |

waternogatenemy: I don't know the details but how do you think foreign loans work? That the country will just hand you over the money and say see you later? Some of you should try and use your brain it is not for decoration. When countries give you loan most times the loans are tied to them selling things to you. Which is why most development economist have argued that foreign loan is not good for developing countries. For instance US may give billions in loan but a huge part of it will be delivered in the form of arms. What it means is that US arm dealing company will make sales and provide jobs for their citizens. While you end up with just arms on credit that you will eventually pay with not enough left to build factory or do anything meaningful. All the railway projects in Nigeria involves Chinese contractors why do you think that is? I think Mba should have looked inwards on how to raise debt internally and buy through innoson . I don't know how feasible this is in the short run or if state government has the capacity to do so. Maybe someone in the know can throw more light on this. 4 Likes 1 Share |

dettolgel:It is a matter of timeframe. Does Innoson have the necessary research, expertise, and factory to deliver 1000 CNG buses in 1 year? Does Innoson itself even do any research? 1 Like |
dettolgel: 3:19pm On Feb 06 |
melodyogonna: It is also possible that they don't have the expertise to produce CNG buses. In of research it will be a disappointment if such outfit aint into R& ![]() They can always ramp up production, stagger delivery and government would include that into their delivery plan. The other important point is that do they have the financial muscles to pull it off? Most government contracts are on credit and most times it takes to get paid and will definitely affects your finances. If you don't have deep pocket or financial backing it is difficult to pull off such huge requests. On the other hand the state could source loan and ensure that you get your finance up front as a way to promote local production and give you all sorts of incentives and tax cuts. But I doubt if Enugu State had that kind of money lying idle and if they turn to China there is no way under this blue sky will China hand them over that huge amount without selling them something in return. 2 Likes |

Please I have a question that has been bothering me. Why is it that Enugu state government do not allow private individuals to construct roads?
|
ottersberger(m): 4:27pm On Feb 07 |
Digitron: I don't see how that is viable or even possible. One reasonably structured and equipped health center per town, and a proper hospital at the local government level, is adequate. Anything else is the usual propaganda. I happen to know that health centers in Enugu have been struggling to employ or keep a nurse on their roster. In fact, most are desolate with no services offered. Another initiative would be to encourage retiring doctors and graduate physicians to establish private practices in their hometown or places where their services are needed. The government should incentivize these practices. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Construction of the new 5-Star int'l conference centre hotel progressing at a fast pace. At this rate they should be completing it by the end of this year! I noticed they got a experienced construction coy with capacity and the right tools for the job. They're about to set up their crane, and i'm relieved not to see moulded blocks, wheelbarrows, headpan and shovels all over the place. The few workers i saw in the clip are in their correct PPE, showing the coy has a strict health and safety culture it adheres to. christejames: Can’t wait to see the finished product! Even at this stage it’s looking neat and solid, so one can imagine how the finished product would look like! Hope it’s at least six stories high to help its presence on the Enugu skyline! The state gov’t launched its security fund yesterday in which they hope to raise at least N20 billion to go towards ing its state-wide technology/AI driven security efforts. Would have thought a report on it would have been posted on this thread by now. Diaspora Igbo who’re not necessarily from Enugu state may also want to contribute. If this works out according to plan, they can also consider launching another one for a specific project like say an intra-state rail network or a power plant. Over a 4 year period around $1 billion or thereabouts could be raised specifically for the chosen project. Some of us are equally willing to contribute to that one as well, having seen how prudent the state gov’t is with the funds available to it at the moment! 4 Likes |
