At least 10 people have been killed in a brutal attack by suspected gunmen on Amagu village in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. The suspected herders also selectively burned houses and destroyed properties valued at millions of naira in the community.

The incident happened on Sunday.

According to the state police command spokesperson, Joshua Ukandu, security operatives recovered 10 bodies after the attack. Ukandu stated that the police are currently investigating the incident, and normalcy has returned to the area.

“Several houses were also burnt selectively in the area, and other properties destroyed. Upon receipt of the information, we drafted police operatives to the area.

“We are currently investigating the incident while normalcy has returned to the area,” the PPRO stated. “We also recovered 10 corpses from the area. At the moment, our personnel are there, and normalcy is returning to the area,” Ukandu added.

Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers, armed with cutlasses and guns, launched the attack in the early hours of Sunday. The Chairperson of Ishielu LGA, Mrs. Ifeoma Agwu, confirmed that authorities are still evacuating bodies and assessing the full extent of the casualties.

Former Ebonyi State University Academic Staff Union of Universities (EBSU-ASUU) Chairman, Prof. Ndubuisi Idenyi, a resident of the community, described the attack as tragic. “My village, Amegu Nkalaha, was attacked today by herdsmen. Many have been killed, and houses have been razed. What a black Sunday!” he lamented. Prof. Idenyi noted that the casualty count could increase as security agencies and local authorities intensify recovery efforts, especially in farmlands.

The attack has sent shockwaves through the community, and authorities are working to restore peace and order.

Negative news like these were always making headlines when PMB was in power. Conspiracy theorists were always asserting these mauruders were always having their way because their ethnic man was the President. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is now the President and these same herders are still killing and destroying the property of those they feel they can attack. May God help Nigerian. 🇳🇬

It takes strong demonic possession to kill and butcher another man. Its like butchering your own self.
In a serious and working society the nation will not rest until these demons in human skin are fished out and exterminated from d earth. Our polithieftians shud like Jonathan realize that money and ambition is not worth d blood of any man.

OP calls them "suspected heedless. OP wouldn't call a spade by its name - armed Fulani herdsmen.
There are less than 10million Fulani in Nigeria
How come rest of Nigeria succumb to the massacre by the Fulani?

Despite all the chaos that Fulani marauders were causing in the country, Dave Umahi was busy selling lands to them. Now, he's no longer the governor and his people are paying the price.

It is because the problem is way beyond politics, who is in power, and so forth.

The things fuelling the problem are

1. Lack of railways....as at the time we were getting independent, many cows were being transported by rail. The deterioration of the rail system by 1992 meant that cows were now being transported by hiking.

(It should be noted that in the USA...cowboys used to herd cows the way Fulanis did. In the 19th century. What ended that was the development of railway links. Why can't Nigeria developd the railways.).

2. The Sahara is encroaching. Rain fall is falling, and so to find pasture...many herders are going down south.

3.Population.

IN 1940's Nigeria was 40 million
In 1963, we were 55.2 million
In 1991, we were 89 Million
In 2006, we were 160 million
Now...220 million.

And most of us live in rural areas. Most are farmers. Fulanis too are also increasing with cows.

Result...competition for land that is limited. (Sorry, but the land mass has always been the same. ). Result ...crisis.

4. Fulanis don't want to do ranching. Farmers don';t want to give up subsistence farming and shifting cultivation. Add bad land management...crisis.

But solving all these problems takes time...meanwhile, there are politicans on both sides who need to rile up fulanis and farmers to get into office to continue looting.

This is what happens when leaders prioritize personal interests over security. former Governor Dave Umahi was busy selling land to them instead of protecting his people.

I don't understand some of these things. Don't these communities that suffer frequent attacks have able-bodied young men that can be mobilized to contain these kiiillers and root them out?

Benue, Enugu, Ebonyi should restrategized.

That's how you people come online to change narrative.

What has izzi and ezaa got to do with nkalaha.

It was Fulani militias dressed in military uniform with Hilux that attacked the community yesterday and buttered people.

If you are not part of the killers who comes online to try to confuse the public and change the narrative, then you shut up cuz you are ignorant of what happened there yesterday.

IPOB . They're the ones we know terrorizing that region. There have been stories of them on the internet as the mother body of UGM activities in the Eastern part of the country.
