Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCC) has issued a stern warning to loan apps and businesses that harass and intimidate Nigerians over unpaid loans.

In a bold move to protect consumers, the FCC has urged Nigerians to report any instances of harassment or intimidation by these loan apps and businesses.

The FCC’s directive comes amidst growing concerns about the tactics used by some loan apps and businesses to recover debts from customers.

Many Nigerians have reported being subjected to threatening messages, calls, and even social media shaming by these loan apps and businesses.

In a statement, the FCC emphasized that “no consumer should live in fear” and that it is committed to protecting the rights of Nigerians from unfair and deceptive practices. The commission warned loan apps and businesses that they will face severe consequences if they continue to engage in harassing and intimidating behavior.

The FCC has encouraged Nigerians to report any instances of harassment or intimidation by loan apps and businesses to its office. The commission has also assured that it will take prompt action to address these complaints and bring perpetrators to book.

This move by the FCC is a welcome relief to many Nigerians who have been victims of loan sharks and harassing loan apps. It is a clear indication that the government is committed to protecting the rights of consumers and promoting fair business practices in the country.

Nigerians are advised to report any instances of harassment or intimidation by loan apps and businesses to the FCC through its website or social media channels.

The commission can also be reached through its toll-free line or by visiting its office in person.

By reporting these instances, Nigerians can help the FCC to crack down on loan sharks and harassing loan apps, and create a safer and more secure environment for consumers to access credit and other financial services.

Step-by-step guide to report loan apps harassing you – FCC

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCC) has provided Nigerians with a detailed guide on how to report loan apps that engage in harassment, particularly after loan repayment failures.

Online loan apps have become a popular choice for many Nigerians seeking quick financial relief. However, some lenders resort to aggressive tactics, including sending embarrassing messages — sometimes with personal photos — to the borrowers’ s when repayments are delayed. These actions have led to significant distress, with victims losing jobs and facing public humiliation.

In response to growing concerns, the FCC reiterated its commitment to safeguarding consumer rights. The Commission encourages Nigerians to report any instances of harassment from loan apps.

Here’s how to report:

Email: Send complaints to @fcc.gov.ng.

Social Media: Message FCC directly on X.

Website: Visit fcc.gov.ng, navigate to the “File a Complaint” section, and fill in your details. You’ll need to provide information such as the loan app’s name, details, loan amount, and a description of the issue.

The FCC assures consumers that their rights are being protected and businesses will be held able for unfair practices.

I have a case in court with EaseCash.
They called my s on my due date even after making part payment of what I was supposed to pay earlier that day. It's a fight to the end.
The told my s I'm on the run with company money. Before then I was never a day overdue.
I pay before due dates. I mostly needed the money for emergencies and this time around because I had issues with transfer from my GTBank to Opay.

Which civil servant would accept their endless phone calls without bribe. By next month, they would call but no one would pick (as long as it is government workers)
