It's dicey as there's no very clear Bible rule with this. We have very strong traditional Christian views about it though. Length of hair and what you do with it are not SPECIFICALLY gendered in the new testament. In fact, the one that is supposedly quite clear about head covering is not observed, not to mention the one that is grey. Personally, i can't plait or colour my hair as a conservative believer. i would also not recommend it or wish it for anyone around me. But i can't condemn another for doing it as it's not explicitly stated in the Bible, at least in my understanding. 3 Likes |

I honestly think you got no strong biblical backing to this. Most times we tend to discriminate and dictate righteousness to self favour. Happy Sunday

Some things are not sin. They lead to sin. Plaiting or styling self may end up over concentrating ones mind on the outside (flesh materialism or carnalism. The outside form once active negate the property or growth of the spirit. It ultimately depend on which direction of growth you looking at. Most people who refer to them self as christian are not. At keast not in a deep spiritual sense. If one is looking at projecting himself deep spiritually, the material become of less consequence and vise varsa. Note its very rear to find the right balance. There is no end to deep spirituality. May even extend to the afterlife for all we know. Just like there is no end to deep materialism. But the problem is the material end hardly please God So the more we project that direction the less likely we are to be called true christian. Its unfortunate but it what its is. You cant separate pride, self exultation from those form. 2 Likes |

Nazgul:The thing is not chasing anyone out or not. The question is Can "Christian Brothers" Plait Or Colour Their Hair? It is referring to those who claim to have accepted Christ and I know the gospel of the kingdom would make such a person not do many things. Are you going to plait your hair to please God or for self aggrandizement? God judges us by our motives. So, what's the motive behind plaiting your hair? We should understand that our dressing should be modest and must give glory to God. Let's be guided and understand that we are a light to the world as such should not be influenced by the world rather we should influence the world. |

VinnyBaba:Skimpy skirts can seduce and thereby lead people to sin; so that's clearly understandable why it's unacceptable. But back to the topic on plaited hair and dreadlocks. I asked what a true Christian was meant to appear like and you said "decent". What's then is the definition of 'decent'? The moment your definition of 'decent' begins to contrast with another person's definition, the moment you can't point out a single scriptural backing for your sermon, then you're simply preaching and projecting your cultural biases and stereotypes, not the gospel of Christ. This is one of the reasons Christ instructed us not to judge, cos he knew if we were allowed to judge others, 9 out of 10 times, we would dwell on judging mundane and uselsess things which have no bearing on salvation. As a believer, the moment you start thinking your Christianity is better or stronger than others, then you need to watch it. STOP JUDGING NONSENSE! |

I think what you are talking about here, has got to do with calture. We can also argue it that women that plait their hair have also presented themselves in a way that God forbids. When a child (male or female ) is born, the hair was never plaited. But due to practices right from time, which makes it look like a norm for women to plait their hair and and men shouldn't, seem to have made it a culture in this part of the world. There are states in Nigeria where men wear skates and go to church and it's acceptable because, that's the culture of the people there. Let's not forget that cultural practices which is good has got any against God. Therefore, try to distinctively separate biblical interpretation from cultural practices. Yes, I agree thag decent dressing by all should always be practiced. But does plating or dying of the hair go against God? Can we also say that women who plait their hair, which was never plaited from birth are doing something contrary to ethics of Christianity? 2 Likes |

cutecommend: The most interesting thing about the Holy Bible which contains the WORD of God can never be outdated or go old fashioned. Let me use this analogy. There is a way of life for every profession and culture. The christian profession and culture is without any exceptions and tboss who are true christians should know. Those who work in the bank have a model of dressing permitted them to use in the banking sector. Those who are lawyers have a model of dressing permitted them to use wirhin the premises of the Court. Those who are strippers in clubs have a model of dressing permitted them same on the club as strippers. Those who are engineers, technicians, etc have a model of dressing permitted when they are in the fields working or their workshop. And so on and so forth. Such is for the Christian "born again believer" who should be able to know his/her model of dressing permitted by the gospel of Christ Jesus. Christ Jesus and the early Apostles is our model of dressing and none other. Modesty is the word for Christians. Those who still argue such things have not allowed the Holy Spirit to work through them. They have not allowed the WORD of God to change and transform them from the inside to the outside. A believer's spirituality should also have a reflection on his physical side. |

bixton:Modesty!.... Are you aware your definition of 'modesty' is different from my definition of 'modesty'? The only thing that may align both our definitions is 'culture'. If we both grew up in the same household or community, we would likely share similar cultural biases, sterotypes and views of what 'modesty' should look like. You mentioned Jesus and the apostles were modest. So by your standard, we should all adorn loose fitting jalabiya robes to fit into your biblical standard of modesty? You mentioned that lawyers have a way they dress at work and so on. Are you aware that lawyers in the USA dress differently from lawyers in the UK or in Nigeria? Can you go mount a pulpit in a Jamaican church and preach to them that they're not being modest or Christian-like because half the men have dreadlocks? Keypoint to note is that you guys are preaching and projecting your CULTURE, not the gospel of Christ. If Christ were to come to the world today, do you genuinely think he would be concerned about whether a man has cornrows or dreads or skin-cut? |

Is there a difference between a born again Christian and a Christian? ... special rules for each? ... as in a born again Christian shouldn't plait his hair but one not born again can? And we wonder why some people say Christianity is confusing and contradictory .... the Bible is open to various interpretations. OP goes on to say we should be able to look at a Christian and know he is one by his appearance .... this is not nudging .... it is discerning. The Bible says do not judge ... that's reserved for God. . Judge as in a person going to Heaven or Hell. .final judgement .... but it tells us to discern ... as in listening to what a pastor says and his actions and see if it is compatible with what is written in the Bible..,.so we can ID the wolves in sheep's clothing....the fake pastors. But here is OP saying we should ID a Christian by his appearance. How exactly is a Christian supposed to look ... according to the Bible? My view based on the Bible isna Christian guy should not plait his hair nor colour it. This is based on why is he doing it? Isn't it to look good? ...and isn't that vanity? ...and isn't that taking on the appearance of a woman?..in the same way a woman should not take in the appearance of a man by not wearing pants .....ehmmm .... tros? The man should be wearing his natural hairstyle ... short and curly like wool .... or dreadlocked.

meobizy: This is a mumu talk....even thought i dont think playing hair is bad as long as you do npt workship the idea of it making you look good for others to ire and as long as you do not add attachment and color to it bit you talk which is asides the topic means that we should never talk about any thing we believe is bad just because the bible says we should not judge? There is a different between calling evil put and being judgemental |

This is the end time, Rapture go soon happen. Antichrist go reveal himself any moment , The devil and his soldiers are on the rampage, that is why you see all this so called fashion mode on display everywhere including inside some churches. A female must not dress like or put on dressings that belongs to a male and a male must not dress like female There must be distinction not to cause confusion |
